@DonnDIY Жыл бұрын
The board I used in the video has Independent trucks, really great product. But yeah, I remember the old skateboarding days as worry free days also. Only we got beat up in the shins quite severely while learning new tricks. But that made landing a trick first time even more enjoyable. It taught us perseverance.

Just found your channel but as a former welder fabricator I am very impressed. I love wood working too and I have often considered this same build. Only I want mine portable on a trailer if I was to ever build one. I was looking at a hydraulic motor to power the blade and a gas motor to power the hydro. Just because it would be real hard to swing a gas engine back in forth. Maybe a 2 stroke but hydraulics would be great for feed too, using a hydro wench drum with a cable wrapped around hooked to both ends of the carriage and it just pulls it both directions. Then of course if you wanted hydro log loader. I have seriously thought about it and if I ever get my rat rod done it might be the next build. But you sure do make it look fun and have some good ideas. You need to invest in one of those new Milwaukee circular saws for steel. I seen I guy ripping 1/2 sheet steel and it looked like he had a normal skill saw going through plywood. Leaves a clean cut and the metal never gets hot. You should look up a video of one. I just seen it a few days ago and I promise I have one on my christmas list right near the top. Anyway great build I liked I subscribed keep up the good work,

You can buy angle iron pretty cheap. I have built a circular mill basically copying the turbo sawmill design. Go get some UHMW hard plastic and get some elevator bolts. They are just bolts with a big washer for the head. Countersink the UHMW plastic so the head of the bolt is clear of the surface. This will allow your slider to work better than steel on steel. It's nice to see a guy fabricating in his own shop with limited resources.

Could you elaborate on your choice of a swing blade vs band? Do you have a band-mill already? What advantages does this have over a band-mill?
@DonnDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey, yes I had a bandsaw mill (full build here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3TIhYChns-iiJo). The main advantage over bandsaw mill is that the log doesn't have to be handled more than once and you get dimensional lumber out of the log right away. On a bandsaw mill you have to lift the cut slabs off the mill and later back on to edge them. Also you have to rotate the log several times to get the lumber you want. On the swingblade you have carbide tip blade that is more simple to sharpen and the mill has less moving parts (low maintenance costs). Look up Turbosawmill and one of their most popular YT video "The Incredible One Man Mill" or something similar, it shows how cool it is.

Will your opposite horizontal slider be a roller on a flat surface to prevent the problem of maintaining alignment with changes in temperature etc? Our sawmill hearings all use this method and I've noticed several small bandmills run into binding issues going for 2 single edge rails. Just a thought.
@DonnDIY Жыл бұрын
Nope but the feet will not be anchored to the ground so they can slide a bit eliminating the possible binding problem.

Do you get your bearings and shafts locally or internationally? With bearings I'm always concerned about the type for the different loads , the speed rating, the right allowance for the fitting and the dust or moisture seals. That's because I'm not a mechanical engineer.
