Introduction to Milling Dimensional Lumber on the Turbosawmill

Here I explain a little about one approach to making dimensional lumber on the Turbosawmill. I'm milling 1"x6" white pine boards that I will use for trim in my home after they have dried. This mill is great at making dimensional lumber, which is the most useful kind of wood you can mill. Slabs are cool, but how often are you using them?

When I run my wing blade mill I start with the verticle cut first and then the horizontal cut. Then the board or scrap is right behind you and you don't have to walk around the mill head.

I have started to run it that way as well, especially now that I have the board return. The mill does try to "run away from you" in that orientation, which can catch you off guard if you're new to running the mill. I find this to be the best way to make dimensional for someone who is new to operating this mill. The operator's controls are also at the end behind me, so I would still have to walk back to adjust the lateral.

Big difference with this saw is the fact you do not have to walk around anything as its all open (timbers right there, horizontal first is ideal when sawing heavy beams). The other saws you are stuck in a portal, or you have to walk around the frame.
