Jackie and John. I’m the original poster of the question. It was actually a comment on your page if I recall. I really appreciate and was surprised to see it addressed and I thank you for it. While I have no doubt you’ve had Mmf and men outside, the crux of the question was in the context of a romantic weekend. I was skeptical that John would enjoy a extended romantic weekend with Jackie and the company of another male. A hour or two romp vs a weekend romance and sex with another guy was the distinction I was hoping to draw out. Thank you

OK, I saw the Openlove101 newsletter post and come here to see. I had already watched the video (and most of the others on the channel). I don't normally read down to see what the comments say unless I am leaving on of my own., so these comments were new to me. WOW. I share many of the same viewpoints and beliefs about open relationships that Jackie and John have. Much like John, I grew up with a very open and natural attitude towards sex. As I read the comments on this video two things jump out at me. The first is the judgement and labeling that some users have engaged in towards two people that they know very little about. Yes, Jackie and John have chosen to share certain parts of their lives with us through their videos and blogs, but we don't really know WHO they are. Applying labels to others and making assumptions about their feelings and motivations based on the limited knowledge we have about these people is misguided at best and downright destructive at worst. Ask questions to try and understand others. Don't assume that you already do. The second is the repeated idea: "Why get married to this person if you want to have sex with others?" In my mind, getting married to another person (or persons) IS a commitment. It is a commitment to share your lives with each other. Read that again. Share your (individual,separate, varied, and full) lives with each other. Not limit your lives to each other. If your chosen path includes having relationships with others then you should do that whether or not you are married to another. Why would you want to be married to someone who does not support and accept you being whomever you want to be? My commitment to my marriage has much more depth to it than just who we have sex with. There are thirty years of shared experiences and life lessons that form the foundation of our love. For me, the commitment is about giving each other the encouragement, support, and acceptance to be the person we each dream of being. I think that is the biggest "takeaway" I have from the videos and blogs that Openlove101 have shared. I see two people who care deeply for one another. I see two people who want to help the other achieve happiness and joy. As long as all people in the relationship are both informed and consenting to what is happening, there should be no reason for someone outside the relationship to question that. Jackie and John, you two keep doing you. Keep the conversation going. That is how we will all learn.
@openlove1016 жыл бұрын
Well it's my turn to say...WOW! Thank you so much for sharing your views. You bring to the forefront the importance of acceptance, especially when others views differ from our own. John & I know the content of our message will be controversial for some, way outside the lines for others, and intriguing to still more. Like you, we hope to reach those singles or couples who value their relationship and their individuality in such a way as to combine the two and come out the other side stronger in the love they have cultivated. We don't expect everyone to agree with us, heck that's what makes diversity so amazing! The coming together of different perceptions. I am reminded of the beauty found when peering through a kaleidoscope...all those reflecting surfaces coming together to create a thing of beauty. Thanks again for sharing.

More power to you, but I guess my question would be what is the point of getting married if living that lifestyle? I’m not married, so I get to be with a different lady every day if I wished. I thought marriage was supposed to be for those who want to be in a committed relationship.
@openlove1016 жыл бұрын
What makes you think those in open relationships aren't committed? You bring up a great point though in your question. You talk about the fact that you aren't married and that is why you have the freedom to engage with others. What is it about marriage that should strip us of our freedom to interact with others? Shouldn't finding someone to share your life with be increasing your freedom instead of restricting it? The way you compare marriage to single life doesn't make marriage sound at all attractive? Do you see where I am going with this? Isn't this view of marriage pretty typical? That once you say, "I do" you end up with images of balls and chains? What makes us think that deciding to enter into a more permanent relationship with someone should equal restriction? You absolutely CAN be in a committed relationship AND still maintain freedom. My husband and I absolutely adore each other. We share a home, we jointly purchase items, we want to wake up next to each other, we have businesses together, but all of this togetherness shouldn't be trivialized simply because we both like spending time with others. In my opinion, we are in a much more committed relationship as a result of our freedom and openness. Instead of being together out of some fear or control of the other, we are current in our relationship out of a desire to be here. We are constantly reminded of how lucky and blessed we are to have each other. We do not take for granted the impact we both play in each others lives, nor do we try to restrict the impact we have on the lives of others.
@DeepScubaDiver6 жыл бұрын
Openlove101 I’m not here to approve or disapprove of your lifestyle. It just sounds odd to me that someone would want to get in a committed relationship with another person with the intent to engage in sexual activity with a different person if this all makes any sense. The few ladies that I’ve been with all were expecting me to ONLY have sex with them(which is why I remained single) and I can see why they wanted commitment to only them since of course because of possible STDs(I use condoms) or finding someone else that does it better which all stems from insecurity issues in my opinion. In any case, I just now realized that I’ve probably been looking in all the wrong places for that special lady that would let me “run free” and still have love for one another. Thank you for opening my eyes a bit more.

Agree with Jackie! We are so trapped into a paradigm that may no longer work, or was even realistic to begin with. We've been married 42 years, swinging for 20. Parents were miserable, finally divorcing after 32 years, in a marriage that made everyone miserable! We're still investigating whatever makes the other happy.

In attempting to answer your own question, have you ever tried to disconnect sexual pleasure from the sort of intimacy that actually makes a marriage work? I would contend that it's not only possible, but commonly done. It's almost cliche to see people getting married that never shared anything more than a sexual attraction. I would contend that sex is merely a constituent component of intimacy, and does not represent the full breadth of ones commitment to another. I would further argue that communication and trust sit above sex in the hierarchy of a healthy relationship, and rampant cheating and divorce rates appear to signify that these are violated with banal regularity. Indeed, trust is an enormous component of all this, and many of the comments shown here indicate that the most vitriolic against these two have probably had that trust obliterated by a partner. I would argue all of the above even while conceding that human sexual psychology is incredibly complex, and that this sort of lifestyle is fraught with potential peril. Still, being intimate with another person is not simply having sex with them. While marriage in common parlance might be the most visible symbolic act of two people's commitment to each other, it most certainly doesn't have the monopoly on said commitment. It is perfectly possible to remain in a positive, monogamous relationship without ever getting married, just as it's possible to get married for all of the wrong reasons to the wrong person, cheat on them and see the marriage fail. The only questions one need bother with in this context are as follows: 1.) Are both parties committed to this sort of lifestyle? 2.) Is everyone involved an adult capable of giving informed consent? 3.) Has the couple considered the possible pitfalls in this scenario? 4.) Are both parties prepared to accept any deleterious consequences arising from the act? So long as everyone involved has answered yes, then it really isn't the place of anyone else to question the arrangement. Nor are moral pronouncements terribly meaningful here, seeing as human beings are phenomenal agents of hypocrisy and compartmentalization.

I truly believe being able to have an open relationship takes very evolved people. If it can go on unhindered by jealously or negativity, it is because the people involved realized we are not shackled by society and the expectations they place upon us. It is liberating and I hope I can get to a place where I am so evolved and sexually (and romantically) confident. I love my partner and being monogamous... but I can also appreciate the possibility of this in the future. There are too many people on the planet who have parts of what you- as a human- need, to close off yourself to one person for the rest of your life. And to love someone so deeply before and after they fuck another person, is mind boggling and to me, probably real love. After all, jealously isn't love; Its manipulation, and is bred from your ultimate desire to control somebody under the guise of love. I'm am prevy to it as well though... so as I said, I understand. Jealousy is a human instinct and happens to all of us & THAT'S where the evolved part comes in! You must evolve or you will fall victim to never enjoying life as it should be-- Free.

If it's not monogamy there is no way to tell where the parameters are
@openlove1015 жыл бұрын
Oh come on...are you kidding me?! It doesn't matter if you are monogamous or practice consensual non monogamy you are going to have parameters. Monogamy isn't free from misunderstanding or differences in the definition of parameters. So often we labor under the delusion that monogamy means the same thing to the masses. While most of us would agree that monogamy is defined by only having intercourse with your partner for the duration of the relationship, monogamy can and does take on many different faces. You have some in monogamous relationships who would never ever contemplate going out to dinner with someone of the opposite sex, while there are plenty of monogamous couples who have no problem with this scenario. It's the same with consensual non monogamy. Some couples have boundaries that really rein in what is acceptable, while other couples embrace more freedom. Monogamy doesn't corner the market in parameters by any stretch of the imagination. Both relationship models offer those involved viable tools in which to grow the relationship to satisfy both parties.

I will say, while I have never done the swing thing, I do know people who have and only a couple times did it ever workout. And before hand, when your emotions aren't involved, it seems like it's just not a problem. Then they see the other person having sex with someone else and enjoying hell out of it and suddenly, it's not so clearly ok. Mind you, if it works for you, then cool, but if it doesn't then in strangely can lead to a divorce or breakup.Yes, even though all parties talked about it beforehand. Once seen it can't be unseen and if everytime you try to have sex together and all you can think about is them with someone else, then it could be a problem.

every man is curious, and there is always an animal instinct to cross the line, however, crossing this line is irreversable, and once it is crossed, you can never go back, was it worth the thrill? dont think so, I see people searching or the ultimate thrill, I do not believe we should be focusing on "thrills". we should get into the habit of helping others. there is a huge hole that will be ever so larger every day if people start to search for these kinds of thrills, and there is no limit, dont drink the coolaid, focus on helping someone who needs help, a wise man once said, "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" a wiser man said, "it is better to give than to receive". you can thwart all of this foolishness by making a goal to help someone each day, week or month. Simple.
