Don't show the bass the same old baits! Do something different this Summer and you're going to catch bigger fish. The swinging jig head stormed the market a few short years ago but has virtually vanished from the public eye since.
Whether you caught fish on the Biffle Head when it came out or not, your fish will eat a swinging jig as you swim it along the bottom. When this style of bait hit the market there was very little information about how to fish it properly. In this video Matt breaks down the heads, baits, and gear that has worked best for him over the past couple of years.
The Heads...
Dirty Jigs Pivot Point Head: bit.ly/2jOY1Ns
Gene Larew Biffle Hardhead: bit.ly/2JkijM0
The Baits...
Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver: bit.ly/29W3RZW
Strike King Rage Bug: bit.ly/2aAsuiV
Strike King Rage Menace: bit.ly/2HmX7D0
Zoom Z Craw: bit.ly/2vW7Jo5
Recommended Colors... Green Pumpkin, JuneBug, Watermelon Red Flake
Matt's Setup for Lighter Jigheads...
Rod- Shimano Zodias 7'2" Medium Heavy: bit.ly/2cgmMAe
Reel- Shimano Curado 70: bit.ly/2apmDJt
Line- Power Pro MaxCuatro 50 lb: bit.ly/2clBRiQ
Leader- 15 lb Maxima Ultragreen: bit.ly/2ae97J9
Matt's Setup For Heavier Jigheads...
Rod- GLX 854C JWR (7'1" Heavy): bit.ly/2gqziwT
Reel- Metanium MGL 7:1 Ratio: bit.ly/2ezIBfB
Line- 65 lb Power Pro MaxCuatro: bit.ly/2clBRiQ
Leader- 18 lb Maxima Ultragreen: bit.ly/2ae97J9
Budget Friendly Rods For This Technique...
Dobyns Fury 7'3" Heavy: bit.ly/2bGvlVV
Shimano Exage 7'2" Heavy: bit.ly/2mGp1Vc
This is an awesome technique when bass head out to the ledges and deep water haunts. Give it a try this Summer and you're sure to have fun!

I use the 1/2oz today at Don Pedro and had severals small hits. As I was reeling up the bait slowly one of the fish followed it up. It was around a 4lb spotted bass. A few minutes later another small hit this time a fish even bigger followed it to the boat and hit just the claws barely in my view then clearly in my view it was even bigger than the fish before. Keep up the great work. Matt and Tim.

When you described that bite...it is so true. I recently used a swing head in a kayak tournament, and I was fishing it in a milfoil flat. I would rip it through on an 1/2 ounce. They it would just get heavy, like a wet rag. And I would do quick high stick to feel the bite, sure enough they were on there every time. I reel down and swing. It is nuts. I am sold on the swing head. You can punch with it too.

This is my go to technique. What I love about the Dirty Jigs is you have hook size options which other companies do not. The 1/2 oz with a 3 1/0 is my favorite size for winter. Great video.

I wake up to my favorite fishing channel to see a video on the exact technique. You must have sent out some ESP vibes yesterday :). Thank you for the video, I see I was doing it wrong ( restricted some of the movement at the joint). Great video as always!!

Cheap alternative to the $5+ for 2 swings, EWG hook - add a split ring and drop shot cylinder style weight to the hook eye for rock and shell bottom. Round style weight for soft bottom. Started doing this 40 years ago with an egg style weight. Cost= 17.9¢

Thanks for the tip! Is the action different?
@mr.fatbasstard648
@mr.fatbasstard648 6 жыл бұрын
Taylor Hickman very similar action but if you use the drop shot style weight you need to open the line tie wire so it moves freely on the split ring. I use number 3 or 4 split Rings depending on the hook eye size to keep it all swinging freely. Just be careful to tie your line to the split ring at the double band section. Some guys used two split rings for more freedom or tie on with a clip but I don't find that necessary. The egg shape style casting weight allows tons of movement. Gets hung up in the Rocks though. I like using the drop shot line clip style weights because the weight breaks free if you snag just the weight and you get everything back but the weight.

If you look on AliExpress they sell ball heads in different weights with a removable wire so you can tailor your hook size to fit your needs, like 10 for 4 bucks.

This, like all videos was very informative. I have a KBF tourney on Clear Lake this weekend, and I felt like trying this technique... in watching this video you made me a believer that it could work; and as you even said it’s a dying technique that gets overlooked. I’ll definitely be throwing it in my arsenal. This is my first season in KBF, but I can honestly say that without you and Tim providing these informative videos; I’d definitely be lost out there. Everyone says Clear Lake can be magical, so here’s hoping! Wishing you and yours the best with all future endeavors, and if you still are doing charters/guide service I definitely would like to sign up. Be well, and again, this was a great video. Thank you. 🇺🇸✌️👍

I have also started tying a small bait keeper on these- just were it loops up. I bend one strand of a wire guard off a jig in half and then secure it (poking over just 1/8 an inch) with some wraps of braid and a touch of superglue. Holds the plastic way better and helps plastics last longer.

I've fished a swing head alot over the past couple years and tried many different setups. I had problems with losing fish until i started throwing it on a mh cranking rod. I treat it just like a crankbait. A mh moderate action works well but it is a bit soft on the tip, so i went to a moderate fast and that was the deal...

I've been fishing that method for years on ledges and off shore. From what I have found with those type of heads is that if you keep reeling on them after the bite and pull into them (reel set) you have a much better hook to land ratio. I've tried it time and time again with hammering a hook set and for me it just doesn't put the fish in the boat.

The wobble head is amazing. It’s like a Texas rig that you just drag and lift. Bandito bug is juicy on it. So is the biffle bug.

Definitely picking a few of these up for my end of the month trip. New lake to me, looks to be super deep. Now I just need to figure out how to fish this lake and what colors. Not sure what to do with.
