But, it was a flavour of small-ball that was like... Steph and then 4 guys who were between 6'6"-6'9" and were insanely versatile switch defenders. And along the way, that just morphed into "smaller-ball" and then "smallest-ball" lineups and strats.

A couple of things. I think Dal had already started discussions with Luka's team about super max. I think the possibility came to that if he wasn't given the supermax, he wouldn't sign an extension. That's when Nico started to shop Luka to LA. Dallas wants to win and if they don't have Luka they want to win with a two way big. Giannis or AD. Remember, Kidd coached Giannis so I think the Giannis rumor is true. The nba is about two things not mutually exclusive - Championship and business (making money). Dallas is a small market and if they signed Luka to a supermax I don't see them winning a chip. They are not the biggest market so they hedge their bets on trying to win vs having a superstar who can sell tickets. They know that if they win, they also sell tickets. Lakers is a big market and Luka will bring significant revenue whether they win or lose. LA now also don't have to pay Luka a supermax and now will have flexibility to acquire more talent. I think the issue with Luka is not so much his weight but his total lack of defense. The finals were hard to watch with players blowing by Luka as if he wasn't there. While fans seem to forget that, Basketball people don't forget such things. I understand the trade. It's the hardest decision on the Mavs side and still I don't know if I would do it. A championship isn't guaranteed and no one would be mad if they gave Luka a supermax....but I understand.

Bad trade considering how little the Mavs got for Luka. At a BARE minimum, trade should have included AR15 and another 3 draft picks/swaps. How did they come away from this deal with only 1 player, 1 role player and 1 draft picK??? Even if they specifically wanted to trade from the Lakers and no one else, they could have gotten so much more From a basketball standpoint, Kyrie+AD, with centers+shooters is actually not a bad idea. But from what they got it is a terrible trade

Swish, the way this trade relates to the Warriors is not that it will bring LeBron to the team. Whatever you think of Jimmy Butler, the fact Lacob and Dunleavy were going after him means they are finally looking to blow up Draymond's control of the team. Curry and Kerr went out in public, likely on Draymond's behalf, to sabotage the deal, saying they were "worried about the locker room fit". Now there's rumor Warriors are going after Giannis. Anything to prevent the team from sleep walking off a franchise value cliff under Draymond's influence, which will happen if they don't act very soon. Draymond has consistently sabotaged the Warriors development and finally, finally it looks like the front office sees it. Probably, the Luka - AD trade has fully woken them up to the idea you don't have to let a Klutch Sports client run your organization into a ditch solely for his own personal benefit.

While it appears they may be seeing the light on keeping guys they consider to be untradeable, they've apparently called about every all-star to see who's available ( I guess after seeing that Luka was for sale, who wouldn't check?), it boggles me that they can't find anyone considering Luka NOR AD was consulted about where they wanna go. If you want a player, you go get him is what it looks like. Giannis might be the most untradeable player if Bucks said no to Luka, but I wonder if there's some behind the scenes back scratching there by Horst and Harrison.

@SwishCulture Someone has to be able to come in that's so good, Kerr has zero choice but to start him. And that player has to be able to handle any bs coming from Draymond. Those are the criteria. The goal is to push Draymond out, just like the Lakers made a move to push LeBron out. Dunleavy (and therefore Lacob by extension) are scrambling to prevent Draymond and Kerr from sleep walking the organization off a cliff. Kerr doesn't want to be doing this, but he's beholden to/afraid of Draymond.

The Lakers will need to move LaBron. Obviously the Lakers decided it is not possible to compete for a championship with AD and LeBron. With Luka in their laps, they have to Trade LeBron to where he wants to go. LeBron has said that he wants to play with Steph. If GSW is interested, Draymond would have to go to the Lakers or this becomes a 3 way trade.

Not at all the worst trade yet...that would have to go to the notorious Clippers trade for Paul George. That trade made sense at the time but as everything played out it turned into the worst trade ever seeing how SGA is better than paul George ever was & what the draft picks turned into (Jaylen Williams,Chet Holmgren) and 2 picks we've not even see play out yet... If Luka wins a couple championships with the Lakers THEN this trade will become the worst... But until then the clippers trade for Paul George reigns as the worst trade ever

That was an awful trade a few years later. I wouldn't have traded SGA back then but, Kawhi off a championship I suppose it made sense. If the Mavs flop going fwd, I'm not even sure if it matters if Luka wins a chip in LA. They went to the finals last year with Luka. It's chip or bust this season.

White players have different standards than black ones its absolutely wild. Zion is relentlessly harassed for being "fat" but its fine for Luka. But what's worse is the DEFENSE. Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, modern LeBron, Zach Levine, Steph Curry, etc all get knocked for their defense but it gets overlooked for Luka, Dirk, and abysmal Steve Nash Luka isnt nearly as valuable as people think. His playstyle has been proven to hinder others as him playing out of position so he can statpad puts everyone else in a bad spot

@ You are not incorrect. Heliocentric players replacing value is a concept I was actually working on regarding Lebron so it's interesting you bring it up. That said, it depends on the individual abilities of these players that makes the difference. They look amazing because they put up great numbers, but they don't actually make their teammates "better". They don't raise their ceilings, they only raise floors. Almost like they "fill in value" so if they get good guys, certain talented players they can win. I don't know that there's a double standard.
