I just ordered one from Jomashop... now $264 w/ a $5 coupon and free shipping! It's an amazing deal, and has to be the world's cheapest Chronometer! This is even lower than the Sellita based Glycine Combat Sub and Combat 6 that I got for $279 each! I'd rate Tissot as the hands-down best value in Swiss watches. Their watches like the PR100 compete against Seiko, and you often find Tissot now in shops that sell mostly Seiko/Citizen/Casio. I find Tissot to be of better quality. You won't find a Seiko that performs to COSC standards, not even JDM models costing three times as much! For the same money you'd be putting this up against the Seiko 5 or the Presage, and I think the Tissot clearly beats them. While the PR100 does have a few limitations as you point out, you really can't complain much at this price! It has basic styling, but then, so does Rolex, and this is about close as you can come. The PR100 is spot on for what the stereotypical Chronometer should look like, businesslike and functional. I prefer it's styling to Tissot's more expensive Chronometer Models. On the plus side, Tissot has very nice finishing typical of most Swiss brands, (but not quite to Rolex's and Tudor's level of perfection) and it does offer beveled case edges where Rolex does not. The Tissot even offers a date, while Rolexes like the OP39, Explorer, and even Base Submariner don't. I don't mind the Cyclops, I think it gives the watch a little unique detail. Tissot actually does a better job of integrating the bracelet end pieces into the cases than Rolex. It's seamless, where Rolex leaves an unsightly gap between bezel and bracelet. Minor complaints I have, is that Tissot's bracelet oddly won't lay flat when off the wrist, it just retains it's curved shape. The links are only single piece, rather than the 3-piece links they appear to be. And as pointed out, it has a tinny clasp. Hand winding is a bit stiff and difficult. But, I feel that the PR100's only big shortcoming is that even though it's a Chronometer, it uses the most basic version of the Powermatic movement of the non-Chronometer model, the C07.111, instead of the nicer C07.611 used in all Swatch brands other than Tissot and Certina. The "High Tech" escapement uses the plastic pallet lever and wheel with no ruby stones, borrowed from the low-end, robot made, Swatch System 51 movements as seen in base Tissot automatics. That's why it has only 23 Jewels instead of 25! Odd choice for a Chronometer, and I don't think it's accuracy will stand up as well over the long haul. However one benefit is that the watch is very quiet, and doesn't make a ticking sound. It takes a strong mic to even pick it up to measure the timing. But the fact that it can be certified at all, is certainly testament to the accuracy of such a basic movement, at least in the short term! I scoped it out of the box at ZERO in FOUR positions and -2 & -3 in the other two positions. With a bit of beat error of less than .4ms in a few positions. Mine runs exactly on time sitting in the box, but about -4 to -6 sec/day on the wrist. The adjustment screws of the balance wheel appear to be set in the default positions and there is no regulator, so I doubt that these are even adjusted at the factory. (Apart from the laser trueing of the balance wheel.) I'm sure it will probably run well enough for several years, but with daily wear I would think 5 years would be pushing it. With greater wear of plastic and getting brittle, there is a greater chance of timing deterioration and parts breakage over time, than with steel. But, for infrequent wearers like myself that own lots of watches, I don't think it's too big of an issue. And you could afford to buy a lifetime supply of 25 of these Tissots for the price of a single Rolex!
@misterfreeze65454 жыл бұрын
@Ruel Marquez This is just Timex's marketing jargon from the seventies, a time when plastics were replacing metal, not because they were better, just cheaper. The standard in watch movements remains metal parts with jeweled bearings. Only low-end movements contain plastic. The only possible advantage is that they may keep running longer without oiling and proper servicing, but not necessarily as accurately! Some high-end movements are going with Silicon levers and escapements, but this is not plastic. Tissot makes both varieties, but is one of the few to use plastic in their cheaper models. Seiko also uses plastic for some movement parts, but not the critical escapement.

This watch run pretty accurate ( about -1 sec in a week ) I left in the drawer on Friday night and put on my SKX for my weekend and the watch is still ticking on Monday morning no need to adjust your watch . Truly a Everyday watch for Monday to Friday . Price is truly affordable too at USD 274++ with shipping .

I bought a Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch from them and within a few months, without any damage or impact the start stop pusher fell off never to be seen again. They flat out refused to fix it. I even looked back through old photos and found that the pusher was actually already loose when it arrived and I just didn't notice it. Had to ship it off to Omega for repair. There are times when simple is classic. I do like the aesthetics of this watch when in the mood. I have a Seiko solar that resembles this watch, I think I paid $80 for it about 6 or 7 years ago and although my bracelet that came with it fell apart about 2 years ago I have found the classic simplicity of the solar has made it a strap monster. Everything I put on looks smoking hot. It's not a watch I wear everyday, but when in the mood, it always makes me happy. Being solar, I often forget about it but when the time comes I am usually within a few seconds even when it's been several months between wears. Good work Jody. Keep it up.

Tissot is a brand that I only became aware of through the JOMW channel and at first I was lukewarm over their offerings. But I have to say that I like this watch and see a lot of value in it. As you say, it is a good office dresser with simplified dial and hands that has a great power reserve. Sounds perfect. Of course the main selling point is the COSC movement. I’m definitely curious, but I’d probably get the standard version because it loses the date cyclops, and the even lower price is obviously nice. I appreciate that they lumed the hands, but it’s definitely a shame they didn’t put any other lume on the dial. A small lume dot at the end of the indexes (even only at the quarters) is all that was required.

Impressive features at that price indeed. Replace that circular cyclops with a square one to match the date window (or remove it altogether) , add a milled clasp, and raise the price towards $400, and it'd still be a deal. One question though - did I miss something? Is that a friction fit caseback, and not a threaded one? If so, that needs to be changed as well. Regarding internal cyclops, my vintage (70's) Accutron Deep Sea has one, and nicely done as well.

Hi Jodi. Love your channel and another great review. I was scoping out this watch months ago and at the time couldn’t find any reviews of substance, but ended up pulling the trigger anyway just based on the specs and less than impressive jomashop photos... So I bought the (nearly white) silver dial version, personally think it’s the most handsome in the range and figured it would be a great every day watch with great bang for buck. 4 months in, I’m still very pleased the (nearly white) silver dial is extremely versatile it goes with almost any outfit, it’s my easiest and most reliable “grab and go” and with that 80 hour power reserve and my rate of reaching for it I average only needing to hand wind it about once a month. The silver dial’s sunburst brushing is more easily recognizable and it is a subtle but nice feature. Personally I love the quirky cyclops, but the awful bracelet had to go. Currently I have it on a random brown leather strap I had laying around it’s nothing special but looks significantly better. I found there isn’t enough space between spring bar and case for a normal nato. (tried out of curiosity) Jodi, wondering if you or anyone else has found and can recommend a suitable replacement bracelet, or handsome/suitable leather or rubber straps? It would be nice to have the option to keep it on for a quick swim if I wanted to. Cheers

This is definitely a great value proposition. It is a little odd (for me) and with the magnifier it would be difficult to mod. But COSC certified...makes me pause and think, thank you for bringing this one to my attention Jody :)

Interestingly, that's what I was thinking when watching this video -- my nephew is graduating next year from high school, planning on going to college for graphic design and art, this would be a pretty solid choice for a graduation present for him.

@@weeks55 it's really solid and has been getting a lot of wrist time. Getting about +5 seconds a day and the lume is great! Had some issues with the clasp being a little loose and had to tighten it up but otherwise I'm very happy with it 👍🏼

@@tthaas not a bad idea! Tissots make for great gifts with how well the boxes are designed and the extra pamphlets that come in it that talk about the history of Tissot, etc.

Not worth on the long run 🙏 gents... Buy a beter piece than this watch that'll cost you more to service.

Jomashop is a little bit vague with this watch. The same watch with the white dial claims COSC certified and that silicon balance wheel for antimagnetic features. So is this the case with the black dial PR 100? I'm literally about to pull the trigger on this watch or the white one (less fun from the white one) but I would rather have the black one if the COSC and silicon applies.

I have the 1984 module P100 and I wondered if you could tell me much about the watch. It was my dad's, he had this from new! I've no idea what it cost as it was a 60th birthday present from my mum to him, this makes the watch 35 years old or there abouts. Do you have any idea how much it may be worth now? Many thanks.

I'm such a fan of the PR100 - especially how Tissot offers versions in quartz and automatic. To me the best feature isn't obvious - it feels so comfortable on the wrist. Has to be in the top 3 non-diver watches I recommend for "Just One GOOD Watch" set along with sapphire Eco-Drives, Seikos, and Certinas. I think I'd sooner buy the Certina DS-4 if it were my money - very similar overall, but I prefer the bracelet on that one, and right now Jomashop is claiming to sell it with a non-Powermatic ETA movement. Each movement has its own strengths but that one has the nice 4Hz sweep. :-)

Great review as always. Could you please tell me if this watch comes with the silicate hairspring? Just wondered, because if just purchased the Seastar 1000 with the black strap and blue dial of which is not Cosc certified but looks like an identical movement to the PR100 you've reviewed?

I love Tissot. It was my first real watch. A square, with bracelet that I've tried over and over to find again. But to no avail. This watch though, is as boring as watching baseball. Disappointing. But as always, keep up the good work!👍🏻

You can‘t do nothing wrong with a Tissot. Should be in every collection as a everyday watch. Also very strap friendly fits with stainless steel but also with leather in black brown and even a nice vintage green.

Is this the ETA 2824 or the Powermatic 80? You said Powermatic 80, but mine says Powermatic 80 on the face. Anyway, I've heard the PR 100 has been discontinued.

I know this is late, but when looking for vintage watches a rule of thumb is, if the hands got lume the dial/indices should have lume aswell. This Tissot would fail a vintage test.
