Really, really helpful. I am a total rookie, and used this vid to completely disassemble and reassemble my movement. I messed up removing the stem, then messed up various other things trying to fix the stem issue. Finally, I decided I should just rebuild the movement in its entirety, despite not knowing what the heck I'm doing. This vid was so helpful. If I can point out to other beginners out there, look at how he tests that things are aligned and in proper position at each phase. So crucial! I used other vids to try various parts of my rebuild, and did not know how to judge whether had set things correctly or not. Most times, things were not, and required another tear down, and more research and fiddling around. Anyways, thank you!

Glaze with the oil or grease and then reassemble the barrel spring into the barral. This advice is for new watch makers.

Hello, I have a bit of an issue I hope you might have an answer to. I had to reset the keyless works (again, arrgh!), and after I had reassembled the movement, the date doesn't advance properly. Everything appears to be in place correctly, the quick date set works great and the stem is engaged and working as it should. But when I change the time through 12 am, the date slowly advances a bit before it should, and doesn't "snap" as it used to - it's a much smaller jump. It seems the small movement has taken some of the snap away. And therefore the date doesn't fully change to the next number as well. Why does the date wheel move, depleting it of some of the snap? Did I lose some tension in the spring, while trying to re-install the date wheel perhaps?

Thank you! You are a professional. Tell me, how often do you need to do such work for the watch? Or as the need arises? Should the watch be disassembled and cleaned if the watch works well and accurately?
@watchmakerjd85253 жыл бұрын
Even if watch works well and accurately, servicing is required every four to five years. Thanks for watching😀

Interesting that you are using the thicker HP1300 on the winding train and reversing wheels pivots. I thought the ETA oiling chart specs 9010 for the jeweled pivots and only HP1300 on the ratchet wheel post?
@watchmakerjd85253 жыл бұрын
It’s recommended to apply HP1300 on the winding works and reversing wheels pivot based on the ETA chart. Thanks for watching😁

Great work!! In another video I saw you do epilame treatment, did you use the bergeon stuff or episurf??? also I saw you coat entire gears...I was taught to never put any on the pinions in order to avoid dry white residue formation, is that a concern for you as well? Thanks for sharing I'm just a hobbyist who cant afford to pay someone to service his watches so I do it myself.
@watchmakerjd85252 жыл бұрын
I use Moebius epilame solution. It is best not to coat the pinion, but it is very cumbersome. It's also okay to soak the whole parts in the epilame and blow it out quickly with air blower so that the film does not form thick. Thanks for watching😀

Does the balance spring need to be oscillating when oiling the setting and cap jewels? I am afraid if I loose control of one of the jewels it might fall and damage the balance spring.

I have a Hamilton 694-a that I can’t get repaired anymore due to lack of repair parts and I don’t want a newer watch from Hamilton for 30%off retail ! Would the ETA - 2824/ movement be a good replacement for the Hamilton non working movement? I’m located in the Texas, USA what would be the Approximate time frame and cost ?

The setting lever does not come back up due to press it too hard when you remove stem. Unfortunately, you need to disassemble the watch and reset the keyless works. Thanks for watching😀

before you begin taking your movt apart release the tension on the mainspring.
@sailwesterly54445 ай бұрын
He had. There's always a little tension caused by the disasembly itself. If it had been under proper tension things would have spun rediculously.

Hello, I have a watch with a Selita SW200-1 that I dropped, everything seems fine, it is still precise and exact, however if before the date was changing at 00, now it does it at 00:06, and sometimes 00 : 05. Do you know what could be happening? Happy New Year.
@watchmakerjd85253 жыл бұрын
The watch was shocked and the timing of the date change was wrong. It's not a big problem that the movement works well. When the servicing time has arrived, it will be solved by re-setting while servicing. Thanks and happy new year😊

@@jazzsounds8159 - Same here. I have a new Flieger type A with an ETA 2824-2. It was tested at -2 seconds a day over a 30 day period. I dropped it soon afterwards off a bathroom counter to the tile floor. The watch now runs -10 seconds a day. I know -10 seconds per day is within the range of the 2824 but I sure miss the -2 seconds. What happens to the movement with a shock that affects the accuracy like that?

Hi, please use multi purpose grease, just apply it with a toothpick. For the mainspring use silicon grease, for brake and balance use baby oil, the superior synthetic lube! For cleaning put parts into a plastic cup and swirl them in brake parts cleaner. This is best practice ans should be established in the wohle world of watch servicing.
@jonduberman25738 ай бұрын
Sounds pretty ghetto. Might as well use bacon grease and simply green.
