Brilliant! So the spring/weight puts energy into the hair spring which causes the pallet to oscillate back and forth with weight causing the escapement wheel to push against the pallet and hold it in place until the energy in the hair spring can push the pallet out of the way of the escapement wheel. The mass on the balance wheel (when actually balanced) then regulates the rate of the motion and, thus, the accuracy. I love it!

This is not a watch, it is only a lever escapement. There is a link with STL files in the video description - drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Do7NP9oTvcqLYfgWy4bN4XQslBqhhdwh You can order a 3D print and assemble it yourself. But you can search on KZbin, many people make real watches and much more interesting than this. Some even make them from wood and on a 3D printer, there are a lot of watchmakers, search on KZbin.

Is there a way to make it less loud and adjust the period without change the weight of the inertia wheel?
@grain-diose
@grain-diose Жыл бұрын
The period depends on the weight of the kettlebell. But in order to reduce this, the details must be more carefully done. The oscillation period is also changed by the spring - its thickness and length.

Isn't this how a retractable cord also works, more or less?
@grain-diose
@grain-diose 24 күн бұрын
Mechanisms with a retractable cord have a second spring. When the cord is pulled out, this spring is compressed, when released, the mechanism works due to the second spring. In mechanical watches, there are two springs: one for winding the mechanism - a power one, the second small and weak (like mine) is needed for the balance-pendulum.

@@grain-diose it would help a lot if you would show how a retractable cord works through your simplistic demonstrations. Thank you!

@@chandradeepb3622 Sorry, I'm working on a new topic now. I think you can easily find the necessary explanatory video, there is plenty of content about clockwork mechanisms on KZbin.

Franko Walker This is just a model for fun. I would like to make a larger model and more careful execution, for example in Plexiglas. The fact is that parts made on a 3D printer do not have sufficient accuracy. At the same time, the Swiss Lever Escapement is an amazing and beautiful mechanism.
