their song 'King' is a little heavier with a nice little violin and flute (??) breakdown., and is one of my favorites. admittedly I haven't listened to much of their songs, but the male vocalist does much more singing from the songs I've heard. this vocalist is Anna Murphy, which is no longer with the group. she and two of the other members left and have a new group called Cellar Darling, which also has a similar folk metal sound and her awesome hurdy gurdy.

Eluveitie is pronounced "Elveitii" which sounds similar to "Helvetic". Apparently it's Etruscan for "a man coming from the region of today's Switzerland". They also have songs written in the (extinct) language Gaulish for example "Omnos", or songs more towards melodic death metal like "Inis Mona". I love Eluveitie unfortunately they have had a lot of changes in the band in the past for example Anna (the singer and Hurdy-Grudy player you see in this video) left the band in 2016. "Eluveitie" is actually Etruscian language inscripted on a clay amphora found at an archeological site in Mantua and tells that this amphora was manufactured or belonged to a person who belongs to the celtic tribe of the Helvetii. This is one of their softer songs and actually a sad one, (at least i interpret it so) it tells of the longing for home as the celtic tribe of the Helvetii was driven from their homeland when roman legions invaded their land. Eluveities main theme in the lyrics is always the history, culture and life of the celts in the antiquity. Their more folky songs (like Omnos or Epona) are all sung in a reconstructed version of the ancient language Gaulish, which was spoken among the celts and got extinct around 500 AD. They use a lot of different instruments (Irish bouzouki, fiddle, harp, bodhran, low whistle, tin whistle,mandola, hurdy gurdy). For the hurdy gurdy (german: "Drehleier") check out the YT channel of Michalina Malisz (who replaced Anna Murphy after the lineup change). She is doing awesome things ("5riffs series where she plays guitar riffs from Iron Maiden, Gojira and Black Sabbath) on the hurdy gurdy. Ich schreib mal deutsch, kann ich mich besser ausdrücken. Ich kriege jedesmal gemischte Gefühle bei dem Song - Freude, weil der Track einfach geil ist und : Anna Murphy!! I fell in love with them first time listening. This song isn't that special. There are others by them that you really should try (official videos): * Rebirth : Imagine a cross over between fast death metal + screems and beautiful female folk vocals. You can't. You will need to listen. It's mind-blowing . * Ategnatos : EPIC! That's all I need to say. * A rose for Epona : Awesome song with femal vocals. A little Rock-ish. Could probably be played on the radio. * King : Very Powerful and heavy. Only his vocals. * The Slumber : Switches between the vocalists in a heavy and dark composition. * Bonus: Ambiramus : Really poppy. Could fit Eurovision.

Auch "Thousandfold" ist zu empfehlen. Geht schön nach vorne und die Melodie nimmt einen mit. Habe Eluveitie 2008 auf dem Heidenfast zum ersten Mal gehört und seitdem kein Album mehr verpasst. Zwischen ihren Folk-Metal-Alben bringen die hin und wieder auch mal reine Folk-Alben raus. Von diesen Alben stammen diese Songs: "Omnos" und "Lvgvs". Check it out. 😉

Eluveitie. Love this song. Anna had such a distinct voice. The new singer is, technically a better singer.... but when she does Anna's stuff it never works for me. They have a wide variety of sounds from this, almost more "pop/radio friendly" version, to some full on MeloDeath, to pure acoustic stuff.

I do like Eluveitie (even saw them live a decade ago) but they didn't create folk metal wich existed a decade before the creation of the band anyways kudos for showing the Jodlerkönig Franzl Lang ;) (RIP)
