Just let your "Charge with its perfectly shaped, grown-up 154CM steel knife" a couple of nights in it's rain-soaked sheath after a few days of hiking, and you'll end up with a "perfectly shaped rust brown knife", been there ... Not going to happen with this Spirit. I own a Charge TTi (with its perfectly shaped, even more grown-up S30V steel knife) and I own the Spirit, and the Spirit is my favorite for EDC. The butter knife never let me down, a "tool-knife" is for cutting, not stabbing.

Hi there. Great video. Today, I got myself a Swiss Camp ( just A-W-E-S-O-M-E; personally, € well spent ) and I had the chance to examine the regular Spirit Tool. Being the owner of a Leathetman Wave, I must say that I was impressed. When it boils down to it, it is not a matter of comparing and "deciding" which one is the "best"; not at all; it would be nonsense. They both are GREAT. But, since we refer to the Swiss a Spirit Tool herein, we have to admit that it is most qualitative and absolutely handy and useful tool. The guys at VICTORINOX truly know what a multitool is supposed to be. Cheers. George

About the scissors: What are you going to cut, using the scissors, where you need to open wider than 0,5 cm? If its that thick, you'd probably be better off using the knife, or 1 of the 2 saws. Also, this doesn't have the drawback of the spring, from other Victorinox sciccors, which sometimes slips past and doesn't work at all. So in my opinion this way its a lot better :-)
@merwinfamilyjohn14 жыл бұрын
A couple of points: The "isolation cutter" is an insulation cutter. Electricians when cutting insulation on wiring runs slice lengthwise down the jacket insulation to get to the wires inside. On the knife blade, it does look funky but it's performance is amazing for the more gentlemanly everyday tasks, take it out for a test run for a few days, you'll see.

Might have already been said, but there is a Spirit X which has a traditional Victorinox style blade that replaces the "Rescue / butter blade" :).

I own and live on 5 fenced in acres of treed land. The other day my Dog Rocky and I walked the fence line and I repaired all of the barb-wire breaks with my Swiss-tool. The tool can easily cut through heavy wire and they rock. It's good to see Victorinox evolve and thrive in ever changing market conditions.

even if you dont attach the cork screw to the MT to use the jewelers flat head you can turn it around and screw it back into the cork screw so it acts as a handle

that isolation length cutter is just a box cutter. it's shallow so you only cut the tape.

@Rhinoch8 .. The reviewer gave you the wrong impression... He reviewed the version with the Butter Blade and then laments it.. If you want this in plain edge spear blade then get the Spirit X version.. The tool layout is identical to the one in this review except it has the plain blade.. The "Butter Blade" was developed for EU markets where locking knife blades with points are illegal to carry.. Because it cant be used to Stab allowed it to be reclassified as a tool. and not a knife..

Nice video. Nicest produced, outlined, and narrated one I've ever seen, on KZbin. Thanks for the review. Looks like This Victorinox is going on my wish list. I've never liked Leatherman, since the beginning - really bulky, and square, like holding a brick. I love my SAK's, though, even the tiny one. I carry the Tiffany and Co., silver one, and you would be amazed at the jams it's gotten me out of (and people get a good laugh out of it).

have nearly always had my Victorinox Swiss Army knife on me for over 20 years. It's been invaluable to me, not only on the job, but on my own time. The times I've forgotten it, I felt 'naked' when I realize that I don't have it.. It's 'battleworn' now, and the retaining springs are showing signs of being 'tired.' Probably time for me to supplement it with a full MT... Great review, Nutn. It really does narrow my choices down, to what I'd buy when I do decide to spring for one.

I have the Spirit Plus with ratchet since a couple of weeks and I'm really glad to have it. The butter knife is not exactly sexy, but well, who cares. It cuts really great. If anybody has doubts about this blade please do a youtube search for "Yaching Monthly's test of 18 multitools". In this test they compared 18 multitools cutting three different ropes. And the butter blade cuts through all ropes like through butter - maybe that's where the name comes from? ;)

I agree about the carry case. Why have a leather option and a flimsy velcro fastener on it. I also prefer the snap fasteners or better still the quick release buckle.
@leighrate10 жыл бұрын
The Victorinox serrated blades (rescue cutter) will cut electrical cable quite happily. I've used Leathermans and Victorinox professionally. The Victorinox's are better made and better designed. Their tool set is much better throught out. If you dumped me on the street for a week with one tool to survive with it would either be a full sized Swiss Tool or a Spirit.
@sweetcostarica10 жыл бұрын
Yes, and Nutnfancy's good comment about how hard it would be to re-sharpen the serrated blade on the Swisstool Sprit at 5:55 can be easily remedied. Since the steel is the softer type as Nutnfancy states when that relatively large serrated blade gets too dull just sharpen the serrations out on a 220 stone and make it a non-serreated blade.

Honestly, for me, I've carried multiple varieties of multi tools for over 10 years and could prob count on one hand the number of times I've used the knife blades. I also always have a pocket knife on me which is what I always go to for a blade. No matter how good my multi tool blade is, it's not gonna be as good as my pocket knife. I would love to see an MT with another tool in place of the knife. Just me and my use and thoughts

For all the it's wrench and bits, the Spirit can hold a nut and turn a screw without needing another tool. Something my Charge TTI with it's bit kit can't do. And the two tools, their bit kits and extensions (and in the case of my Spirit a ratchet) are the same size and weight. And is the MT the only knife you guys carry? I carry a regular folding knife clipped to my pants pocket. I almost never use the blade on an MT, even when I'm carrying the Charge, it just takes too long to get to it.
@TrangleC13 жыл бұрын
It is a classical European bread slicing blade shape. That is why sharpening isn't much of an issue. You can slice a lot of bread with this thing before it gets dull. Could be this version of the tool is originally designed for markets like the German one where even carrying a normal Swiss army knife can get you in trouble with the police. With something every German/Austrian/Swiss clearly recognizes as a "Vespermesser" (roughly tranlsates to "lunch knife") you can get away easier.

I have the S and don't really need the scissors much. I really like the butter blade myself. I use it alot and haven't had a sharpening issue with it. it's the best MT i've owned after having multiple gerbers and leathermans which i still have but they are either broke or lost implements.

Great review man! I own Vic Spirit X Plus, and an old Leatherman Wave. I love them both, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Vic. The Spitit is more "tool oriented" while the Wave is more "knife oriented". I wish the two firms made a joint project, based on the Spirit but adding Leatherman's one hand opening knife, and maybe Leatherman's driver bit which is more compact and lighter. A Spirit whith a SAK one handed blade would be just fine as well.
@xwarmouthx15 жыл бұрын
Fantastic review. I think you definitely did the Spirit justice. I own both the Spirit S and the black oxide Swiss Tool and love them both. I use one or the other almost every single day. I am and will continue to be a very satisfied Victorinox user. I have never been a big Leatherman fan, although I am waiting on the MUT.

@classof77 There is a variant with standard blade. There is also a variant with both that sacrifices the mini-scisors to make room for other blade. Spirit-S. I got Spirit-S for my cousin because he does drive his car to work every day and lives in countryside so serrated, blunt blade might be good to have on a person when rescue would take time to get there in case he ran across an accident scene.

Making fun of others is often our way of connecting to those we care about and admire, but are different than us. Nutnfancy, who the vast majority of us care about and admire, included a clip in where he picks on someone he admires for NOT carrying his. A nail that sticks out gets hammered down. Sometimes that's good, sometimes bad. It's best to be always underlying reason (not peer pressure) the reason you might be hammered or hammering.

Anyone can sharpen the serrated blade on this or the full size swisstool. Just go out and buy a Sharpmaker (yeah they are expensive, but worth every penny) and run the serrated side about 3 or 4 times down the stones, then once or twice on the offside to knock the burr off. Repeat until it's sharp enough to take hair off your arm and you are good to go. Serrated blades are great but I wouldn't own them without the Sharpmaker, It works great on the plain edge Vic blades too.

about the serrations..totally disagree, i own a rescue tool and I actually like that blade, real easy to sharpen using a standard ceramic sharpening rod,&sure, it doesn't go right into the serrations, but the tops sharpen easily as the don't protrude, instead they follow a single line, and that edge will slice through just about anything!! and being a SAK, edge retention isn't strong, but you get it back in one or 2 minutes tops, and I'm speaking of hairshaving sharp here& in fact I love that.

First thing I noticed was the leather case on the right side of the screen, very nice. Almost too nice, though. I've never really had too many Swisstools before. @1PATRI0T I agree with Patriot. Can anyone think of a scenario where you would NEED scissors because one of the blades couldn't cut it? A file, meh, maybe the RARE instance, but I think it should be on a blade. Each side can have a different grit, the back is the saw-type like on this Victorinox, and of course the blade on the bottom.
