Thank you for posting your video! I have to add a combo switch & outlet and all of the videos I fount, other than yours, shows keeping the outlet hot all of the time and using the switch for a light. Thanks again!🙏

Excellent!! Every video I have watched either kept the tab or just talked about it. I'm glad I came across this video because it's basically exactly what I'll be doing but with a medium air compressor that I dont want on all of the time

THANK YOU! Geeze..., I took a look at the instructions that had at least 15 drawings in multiple languages and immediately said, "KZbin!'' You video gave me a working solution in a few minutes. Just what the doctor ordered. I even agree with you on your disclaimers. Great job! Thanks again!

happy to help! it took me a moment as well. If it were not for the little light it would be a lot easier.

There's no need for the jumper wire. Just hook the neutral (white) wire to the silver screw, hook the hot (black) to the brass screw, and of course ground to the green screw. Leave the tab you broke off in place. That tab is the jumper. You just basically made it do the same thing backwards. You only need to break the tab off if you want the outlet hot all the time and the switch to control a load separately, such as a ceiling light.
@fivefingerfullprice3403 Жыл бұрын
Ok but the manufacturer's instructions says to do that.
@dannyh901011 ай бұрын
I installed mine like you said and it controls the outlet on/off just fine, but the red light is on regardless of the switch position.

Thank you for posting this situation and clearly explaining which screw is for what. I had a hard time finding a video showing where to jump from and to clearly, while also showing the white and hot black, and also talking about when to break the metal bridge between the two black hot screws and when not to. I am set up now and my switch operates my outlet. If you are another diy reading this comment and didn't quite catch this point in the video it is right around 4:00-4:10. Basically, if you want to use the switch to control the outlet in this combo, then remove the metal bridge between the two screws. If you want your outlet in this combo to stay on all the time, then leave the metal bridge in between the two hot black screws so the outlet always has flow, not just when the switch is turned on. ....now I am reading Chris Campbell's description below which also makes sense, so I guess either way will work, with Chris's way being simpler, though you have to run the wires differently for each way depending on whether you break the metal tab out or not.

Do i have to break the tab? Cus i dont want the switch to control the outlet
@LandtoHouse3 жыл бұрын
This switch and outlet has a few options. If you do not break the tab it should allow you to have power to the outlet that is not controlled by the switch.

Love the videos Seth. oh dear, 11 amps for your dust collection, 5-8 amps for your lighting, 12 amps for the table saw or chop saw that needs dust collection, I think you will be at risk of popping the 30 amp breaker.

I’ve never seen a jumper on a switch like that. This is just like when I got my head rapped around how lights with multiple switches work
@LandtoHouse6 жыл бұрын
Switches can be a bit of a mind game for sure! This switch can be wired in 3 different ways. At first I was thinking I needed too install a stand alone switch then I find the combo.
@jamesmichael14464 жыл бұрын
You mean a three way switch
@petersabatini78172 жыл бұрын
Two things I would have done different. You should have made a pigtail instead of the jumper for the hot wire. Second you left about 4” of sheathing on the wire and stuffed it back in the box. Code says only about 1/4” of sheathing should be left in the box. Good video though
@jeremydunn99782 жыл бұрын
Ok I did it the same way you did and it did not work. Neutral goes on top right corner, hot goes on center, ground goes on left side center screw. People just read the instructions In the box. If y'all notice there is a bar that connects the bottom screw to center screw on the right side for the hot wire.
@Papi4l22 жыл бұрын
all u had to do was connect the hot wire to the brass. that switch would then control the black commons
@LandtoHouse2 жыл бұрын
The instruction book shows to do it this way so the LED will light up.
@Steve-ft3kb2 жыл бұрын
If u do that the LED remains on all the time but yes the receptacle will turn on and off with the switch ... Breaking the tab, installing the jumper, and feeding the center connector are all necessary to make the light follow the switch
@dannyh901011 ай бұрын
With the hot connected to the brass screw and the tab intact (no jumper) the switch controls the outlet just fine but the LED light stay on all the time. As you said, if you want the LED on ONLY when the outlet is on, you need to break the tab and install the jumper wire.

You put the stripped wires on the wrong side of the screws. I t wants to push out the wire when tightening the screws.
@LandtoHouse6 жыл бұрын
Oh this plug actually has tiny metal plates that clamp down as the screw tightens. So the wire can be in either side.

Ha ha...this guy is funny connecting a jumper on the switch. A little knowledge is dangerous.
@LandtoHouse6 жыл бұрын
This switch actually has a jumper in the diagram. Because the switch is directional (the led lamp is only on one side) The jumper is required.
@djjouano6 жыл бұрын
Jumper is redundant, the 2 screws are connected internally. And the tab doesn't need to be disconnected since it's the end-of-the-run wire.
@LandtoHouse6 жыл бұрын
Here is a diagram showing the importance of the jumper. naiadesign.co/wiring-diagram-on-household-light-switch-outlet-wiring-diagrams.html

@executivesteps4 жыл бұрын
Ha ha to @Davy Joe. You need to break the connection between the two screws and add the jumper so that the indicator light will work with the switch action. Otherwise it will be on all the time only indicating power to the device. But you’re right “a little knowledge is dangerous”. Next time read the installation sheet and gain a little more knowledge. Ha ha!

They are easy to break, you need to twist back and forth about a dozen times and they break quite easily.
