So many keyboard KZbinrs make their video with a hobbyist viewer in mind and it has completely rubbed me the wrong way and limited the KZbinrs I have watched for information. Personally I'm not looking to get into a hobby. I want a keyboard, not to get into a whole new hobby based on the tool in which I use to take part in my various over hobbies with. These KZbinrs are the best source of information as they live and breath alongside a closet full of these things, but that has seems to come with a disconnect from viewer and creator. So thank you for this, personally I can't fathom the idea of a keyboard being good, but not daily driver good. What the hell else am I going to do with a keyboard other than use it on a near daily basis?

I just rotate between my HHKB and the Q1 depending on what I'm doing for the day. My endgame doesn't really exist, because I keep selling whatever I thought was supposed to be "the one." I'm starting to think the true endgame is just the rush of building keyboards and not the keyboard itself.
@ed32568 Жыл бұрын
That's what it is. I feel the same when it comes to new shoes (I dance, so soles and comfort are kind of important to me). The whole feeling of endgame is the novelty factor and the feeling that it's better than the last thing you had. But there will always be a "better" keyboard, house, car, etc

I had the Banana in my Q1 Pro and didn't really care for them. I tried them because I usually use Glorious Pandas and I wanted to compare but to me they aren't really alike at all. They are ok just not what I wanted so I replaced them with Pandas and some cherry keycaps. Thus I probably should have just gotten the barebones. Of course I have the extra switches now in case someone wants them in build. While I'm not a linear guy the milky yellows are phenomenal for the price, already used them in a couple of builds and very happy with their performance, especially with the stock lube job!

x'D I feel that, I have a C1 (Cheap and plastic I know but I like it!) and the other boards I do have don't really do it for me. I love how I've modded this one and it sounds/feels the best to me when typing and it really gets the job done for me. I don't mind that there's no real flex, or super powerful foam action or super weighty bottom but that's fine!

The backlit C1 was my first Keychron purchase, partly thanks to this channel. I was not disappointed. I agree with you (I think) about the plastic body. Nothing wrong with it at all, in my opinion. My biggest gripe with the C1 is its hard-to-read black keycaps when the backlight is off. This fact was pointed out in Betty's review, which I didn't glean properly.

White LEDs here as well. I'm currently using some black and red keycaps (tan lettering) which, truth be told, are kind of hard to read as well. The C1 has been a learning experience. So I just came across a video where someone makes a DYI switch puller because lets be honest, the actual branded, purpose made ones are terrible. Even the tweezer style ones (which btw costs like 20 bucks where I live). Just wanted to tip you off that you can go to your local hardware store and get cheap pliers made to take out plastic clips in car interiors, and alot of them are perfectly sized to pull keyboard switches. They are sturdy, dont flex, comfortable to use, spring loaded and gives you as much leverage as youd ever be willing to put on the poor switches. Total game changer for me at least, I believe I paid less than 10 bucks for mine. If it doesnt fit exactly or too sharp edges they are very easy to grind to fit with a file or dremel though

Honestly, the Cidoo/Finalkey V65 is very similar at a slightly cheaper price point and in stock for US. The main issues are the limited color selection, adhesive feet covering screws, and crappy stabs. It does come with decent linear switches and Cherry keycaps though so it will be slightly cheaper overall.

How do you deal with the insane tactile bump? Whenever I press down on my Clickiez (45g long spring swapped), the amount of force I have to use to push down makes it so the return is weak and my speed/ accuracy is slowed down significantly because my fingers keep getting stuck I want to try swapping heavier springs, but I’m concerned about it becoming too fatiguing (as it’s already pretty fatiguing) Might try lubing the tactility down, but not in a hurry because I was just disappointed by the stock experience so much
@jGRite Жыл бұрын
@@jammies701 That's understandable. I play piano so I already use a lot of force when with my fingers. I also rest my hands on the keys (both kind) so I don't want a switch that's too easy to press. I have the 75g version (stock), and that works for me. With that said, it seems like you'd want something without the BIG bump, but still having a heavy spring. If 45g is too much now then maybe that's your limit.

In fact, it's the same in the airsoft industry as well. We all know what the desirable combinations are, they just wont give it to you. Just like the meletrix, Can't combine the right colors unless I spend nearly double to get 2 of them to get the right color combo. And what can I do with the extra? I don't understand why a lot of manufacturers produce 75% layouts. Imho it's not a daily driver layout.
@dannyize Жыл бұрын
I assume you think 75% layout is too small? Or too cramped? You might be clearer. I think 80% or TKL is probably best for someone's first (or only) buy. But 65% exploded layout like the Q2 pro (or V2) is the coolest, most fun layout in my view.
@erwark Жыл бұрын
The market disagrees. 65-75% sells very well.
@ThaLiquidEdit Жыл бұрын
@@dannyize No, it's not about the size but about the layout. For programming you often need Ctrl+Home or Ctrl+End for example to select a whole line. When you need those imho the 2 layouts are not usable with touch typing. I prefer a 60% HHKB layout over everything else. Everything is in reach when are touch typing.
@dannyize Жыл бұрын
So, to recap, 75% is too large for you to be a daily driver. Worth mentioning the keyboard under review is a 65% layout. And your preferred keyboard is a programmer-specific keyboard with a bizzare 60% layout that costs $280 plus. It also doesn't appear to support QMK and requires Windows to configure. Those nutty manufacturers with their 75% layouts! I just don't understand them.
@ThaLiquidEdit Жыл бұрын
@@dannyize No it's not about size it's just about layout. Yes my opinion is of course highly subjective and based on my personal needs and preferences. I don't know if 60% is a programmer-specific layout but it's a layout optimized for touch typing imho. HHKB is just a specific kind of 60% layout and is not bound to the HHKB keyboard you are referring to. On kbdfans you can purchase different 60% keyboards with QMK/VIA support.

It's my first custom board and I don't really have anything else to compare it to than those plastic ones, but it feels great so far. Still, I'm going to mod the s**t out of it just to learn. Hopefully this trend of highly customizable boards will just increase over time and larger companies will jump on it too, I don't mind spending $300-400 and up on a board if the quality is there.
