Data engineer here It makes me so sad how hard it is to find full-size or a satellite numpad that won’t feel like poop compared to a nice custom board. Need both the pad and home cluster for my workflow. (And because I use them all day for work, I habitually prefer the numpad over the number row on my personal board too) Q0 is tempting to let me pick any nice tkl for pairing, but at that point, might as well just get a q6 and mod it.

@@ZarBluestari felt the same so I ended up using the geon frog tkl + frog pad since they look really cohesive together. Only con is much higher price point and no matching colors so I had to custom cerakote, but my frog pad sounds/feels amazing and almost identical to my keyboard, especially after minor modding.

I cannot live without them, and I'm not a finance bro. I worked an inventory job 20 years ago where we had these 10 key belt hung computer units, and had to enter numbers as fast as you could think them. I got really good, and now it's a requirement for me. Only once did I screw that up with a 10 key-less laptop in college back in 2007. I ended up having to buy a USB acessory one. Never made that mistake again. It's literally the reason I have a Precision 7680 and not a Precision 5680, which would have done the job ok. I'm happier with twice as much RAM and an i9 anyway, but dead serious, no 10 key was what killed the cheaper model on arrival.

Same. I don’t understand how people can live without it! I’ve never worked in finance, but I used to field calls for a doctor’s office for several years, and typing in someone’s birthday when they say it super fast is impossible without the numpad. If you just use the row of numbers at the top, the / key is on the other side of the keyboard. But with the numpad, it’s just right there and you can type 01/01/2000 for example, so much faster than on a keyboard without a numpad. Numpads are fantastic and I don’t understand why people don’t like them!

@@Kenshin11212 I did this when I bought my car and I'd paid £200 for extra crap like a first aid kit and breakdown kit and cleaning products and things. I got the car and that whole pack was tiny. like 7x5x2 inches. It had the first aid kit logo on it and I thought it was just a first aid kit. I went in the dealership and complained that the rest wasn't there, and they got out one of the little packs and opened it up and took all the stuff out which wasn't a first aid kit and gave it to me and I just stood there too embarrassed to say anything and took it and walked back to my car. One of the salesmen came out to my car just as I was reversing out and asked me if I had done exactly what I had done, and I just said 'no' and drove off because 1. it was too embarrassing. I just paid you £20k. I know what I've done, you know what I've done; just let me go, don't shame me for it. And 2. they really ripped me off for that £200 kit with about £20 of stuff in it. They added it without discussing it with me when selling me the car and it was one of the 6 pages I signed in a row, not realising I was buying it, so F them.

It sounds and feels so much better. People like you also taught me to try out non-cherry switches and I learned the reason I liked Blues wasn't the clickyness, but the weight. And now I have a lovely weighty tactile that I'm typing on. Not sure I'm into thocc, I like Clack a bit more, but still, people like you helped it out, and it wasn't that painful. Pretty easy and fun. (If I ever find out they're doing another run of the Zoom TKL tho I may go for that as a fun side board)

Then I upgraded to Gateron Ink v2 Black pre-lubed 5pin linear switches (60g Force), added some thick o-rings for extra THOCKINESS and noise dampening, then topped it all off with PBT (instead of cheap ABS) XDA Profile Keycaps in a lovely set of colors that matched my PC setup. I did it all for about $170 and I love every minute of my time with this board! Edit: the o-rings went on the keycap stems, not the switches. And I also bought a switch tester and a couple sample packs of switches first to get what I wanted after trying them out.

I didn't even realize that my keys weren't uniform until I moved them around and I was like ... that doesn't look right. But what I really miss are the home row "pointer goes here" bumps. My first thought (after seeing that all dvorak-specific keycaps I could find are not 'cute') was that I'd get unlabeled keys and then print/cut stickers on clear sticker paper for the keys. After seeing some side-print keycaps, I was like "oh I could get those, let qwerty users still see their labels, and have my own labels. Now I'm wondering if the keys would feel better to the fingers than the stickers, and if I should get normal keys and put the label on the side profile. I can feel some analysis paralysis coming on 😅

I have been having quality issues with KeyChron K10. The first two I purchased new from Amazon and both had non functioning keys so they were returned to Amazon. So purchased a third direct from the manufacture. That all the keys function however the LED behind the I key doesn't work. I reached out to KeyChron supports about this and the only thing they would offer is a $15 credit. I can't speak about the Q line of products though.

The only issue I see with stuffing the keyboard is that the Q keyboards, as far as I know, have a sort of floating PCB that sits on gaskets. So the PCB moving is a feature. By cramming in foam and stuffing the case, you are eliminating that movement.

Funnily enough, just stumbled on this video after ordering a Q6 to replace my dead Blackwidow, what a coincidence! For me though, 100% is really useful as I use the numpad a ton in MSFS (and apparently even for just day to day typing numbers? I didn't even realise that until I started using my backup 80% keyboard)

Finally, a ANSI101 104 layout on this channel! I know you were gas lighting him as a joke, but FYI (for others). That Razer keyboard in the beginning is known as a 100% keyboard because it has all of the keys the the IBM Model M (ANSI101 if you're American) established The "Numpad" is also referred to as a "10-key" referring to the keys 0-9. Take that away and you're left with ~84% Between the numpad and alphabetical keys, include "Page Up", "Del," "End" and so on, referred as the "Nav Cluster" which does not include the arrow keys. Take that away and you're left with ~75% I can live without a numpad, but is as a touch typer, I have come to realize my nav cluster is precious to me

I had a 60%, but I was really missing my home and end keys. I got a slightly squished full size keyboard but for some reason it was also missing either the home or end key (I can't remember which); I currently use that for work because the numpad is useful. For my personal computer, I am using a tenkeyless and the day I switch to it, I immediately missed my numpad because I have a pin to log into my computer.

As a raving clicky fanatic with an open mind, I get the sense from this video that I'd love to hear more Hipyo On Clickies. What do you dislike about them the most; just the racket, or is there more to it than that? Are there any you do kind of like, or at least dislike less than most others? If you *had* to run a set of clickies for a month on your favorite deck, which would they be and why? Or just go on a full-drama hateraide-rant if you literally can't think of any potential up-sides: My bet is it'd be fun & informative regardless. Also, 96/1800 layouts are really nice options for people who Must Have Tenkey for work-specific functionality but still want something nice and compact & maybe less pedestrian-looking than a traditional full-size. Turns out I don't miss my Lock/Pause and *especially* Ins keys at all.

I enjoyed this a lot. I got here through the algorithm after looking at keyboards for my mom, who works from home and needs a new keyboard. Now I want to build 2 keyboards! When I saw the sheet of Kilmat I was like OK OK I like this content - I work in automotive repair and if you see this Hipyo you should try out MLV or Mass Loaded Vinyl sheets if you haven't already. I use a HyperX Alloy Core right now and it's the best keyboard I've had personally, but trying something new that I can build myself sounds very fun! I'm with Stephen on the 10-key, I worked as a grocery store cashier when I was younger and I can't live without it honestly, makes me feel good hammering those num-keys like I still remember all the PLUs for produce. If keyboards didn't have the upper segment of numbers and it was only the symbols I couldn't be happier, and there's probably some way to bind the keys so the shift key isn't needed, but it's not that much of nuisance. I also think you COULD use spray lube like Stephen suggested somewhat jokingly but you would have to use a dry spray like WD-40s PTFE "dry lube" spray in a quick sweeping motion over all keys at multiple angles as to not over-saturate. Dry-Lube is a go-to for sticky ignition tumblers for me. This all looks very fun, also quite expensive for a dang case, PCB, and switches to build a keyboard when you're just a regular joe, but I still love that there's a market for this custom stuff. You have some great recommendations with sound deadening though, it's the difference between a Honda Fit and a Mercedes S-Class. Thanks for the videos, I think I'm gonna watch a few more 🍻 cheers... P.S. this is 2 G&Ts deep/sorry not sorry

I really like natural keyboards and the closest I can find is the keychron Alice and I’m thinking of doing a build like this but I’m not sure the Alice has enough angle to the board and if I should a normal layout but it would be hard to go back. Also I really want a volume knob like this guy wants a number pad

Went to my local "Best Buy" (Currys in the UK) and they literally had 2 types of mechanical keyboards on display, some cheap ass ADX with red switches and a Razor Blackwidow with green switches. For me it was enough to figure out I prefer red, but the selection these days of in shop items is abysmal. Even though these shops say they have them "in stock" it doesnt actually mean they have them in the shop, it's just available for you to order to collect in store.

It's interesting that you say that most people would be happy with a linear switch. I have presented my keyboards to over 15 colleagues at work and they all prefer tactile. I'm sure its anecdotal coincidence, but if your not a gamer, I feel like tactile would be good. Easy to feel when a mistake happens while writing a treatment plan (behavior analyst). I am kind of a gamer, but the primary use of my keyboards are for work. I wonder what the discrepancies are between the people that prefer tactile vs linear, gamer vs work oriented keyboard users.
