Very nice work on all of your compilations! A few more oldies you may enjoy are Juvenile Jungle, Teenage Doll, City Across the River, and a wonderful Alfred Hitchcock Presents story "Memo From Purgatory" (nice close-ups of a 13-inch picklock) Also Harlan Ellison's books- Memos from Purgatory, Web of the City and The Deadly Streets all feature switchblades prominently. Ellison joined a NYC street gang in 1954 as part of his research! Cheers and thanks for these!!!

@flyleader Thanks for your comment but I disagreee. Senators in the 50's saw these movies as an easy way to gain publicity. Making the knives in these movies seem like tools of criminals gave them one more thing to blame society's problems on and make the "sheeple" think they were actually doing something about them. When it comes down to it I don't blame the films and the filmmakers, I blame the government and the idiot masses that actually listened to what they had to say on the matter.

In movies they are never portrayed as the tools they are. In real life they were seldom used as weapons because most of them didn't have a very strong lock mechanism. Even know most people that want to stab someone use a fixed blade knife.
@kevinmorrice5 жыл бұрын
@Duckie Alexander they were originally thrusting weapons, the folding was literally a novelty in italy, the modern stiletto started life as nothing more than a joke

@strataxeCB haha, I know what you mean. It's all part of the theatrics, but they are all automatic I guarantee you. The vast majority have been identified by collectors as very specific vintage automatic knives. The fourth one looks like it might be manual because it opens very slowly. The same knife is in the very next scene, which clearly shows it opening automatically. Although it's thought to possibly be a prop knife.

How did they get switchblades in the Old West? Were there some US-based makers at that time or did Italian immigrants bring them over from their home country and began making and selling them in America? I honestly had no idea automatic knives went that far back, I thought they were generally a modern invention.

.... You do realize that Westerns are not documentaries, yes? They are fictional movies, most Westerns were shot in Italy, hence why they are called "Spaghetti Westerns".
@if6was9292 жыл бұрын
@@VinEllis No, most westerns were not shot in Italy, they were filmed in the US. The term Spaghetti Western is a subgenre of movies, the term originated in 1964 from the films directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood. Leone's movies were filmed in Italy and Spain.

12 Angry men, Stalag 17, Rebel without a cause, is there a list or can I just not see it on my mobile? There was one from the 50s called "tough ones" i think im not sure about a lawyer who has to defend 3 kids who stabbed a young blind puerto rican kid to death. They all had GORGEOUS 13" Italian automatic stilettos, they showed close ups of one guy holding it behind his back, it just about went up to his skull! The funny thing was the P.R. blind kid had one too!
