The picture is from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of books. The turtle's name is The Great A'Tuin, who travels along the universe holding up four great elephants named Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon, and Jerakeen, who in turn hold up the Discworld, which is flat like a disc. The dome on the disc is called the Standing Magical Field, which creates an alternate reality of physics, allowing the disc to sit on the elephants, and in turn sit on the big turtle. I highly recommend.

your thumbnail is probably a reference to "Terry Pratchett's" Disk world (book) series - it matches the cover of one of the books. if you've not heard of them, the're awesome.

Siduction 2023.1 with plasma is outstanding. I upgraded from Siduction 2022 and all is well. Smooth.

I'm happy running debian stable , if I need up to date software I just use the backports or a flatpak.

SparkyLinux ( made by one guy ? ) also offers a Sid version. There are likely others, but I have not memorized them. The problem I have with LXQt, is one could install KDE and replace some items with those that use less resources and likely have a better experience.

Good luck setting mouse wheel scroll lines amount on KDE ;P. LxQt is the ONLY "desktop environment" which allows to do that. I don't like dark theme of Taskbar/Start Menu in Siduction. EDIT: My LxQt in Arch is using 456 MB right now, and I don't think KDE is capable of being this small...

Im now on the fence on whether to use this or lmde5 on my media pc, I like using it for way more than just KZbin, but it's 7th gen intel with a 1660, and cinnamon is a bit heavy on here, but Mint is great, either way I'm excited to play around when life will stop eating up all my free time

I'm on my work PC atm, which is an old HP tower with an Intel i7 2600s, 16GB DDR3 RAM, an MSI AMD R7 250 2GB OC GPU(the weird HP mobo would not take anything newer even with proper PCI-E power), 240GB SSD/1.5TB HDD for bulk storage, and even on Manjaro GNOME in traditional layout this system is very snappy, and rarely feels sluggish even running Chrome Browser (the way eBay loads their website is an exception no matter the browser I use), Zoom, Kdenlive, Libreoffice, etc.., so 🤷‍♂maybe something is wrong with your system, as it's much more powerful than what I'm using ATM, so it should handle Cinnamon, GNOME, or other advanced DE's just fine. Hell come to think of it my old 15in ASUS laptop with a dual core i3 with 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and 240GB SSD runs Manjaro GNOME, Solus Budgie, and Mint DE with little issues at 720p 60Hz, and everyone keeps yacking on about how heavy those DEs are, so again 🤷‍♂

@CommodoreFan64 Well to be fair, I have a core 2 duo laptop eith a damn serial port on it, and that has Debian 12 with cinnamon, and it does ok, but I feel like being a linux noob doesn't help, I'm probably not configuring stuff right. My new system was idling at 400 processes on manjaro with gnome.

@@awetisimgaming7473If you're not already, then try using the traditional layout for GNOME that has a taskbar at the bottom with an old school windows like start menu, then in settings under multitasking turn off hot corners, and set the number of work spaces to fixed( I personally like 2) that helped speed up my systems greatly with GNOME, and Manjaro. beyond that I don't do much tweaking besides my wallpaper, turning off night light, setting my power setting to performance mode when not on battery, adjust my mouse pointer, and no dark style. hope this helps, and let's pray nothing breaks with the new upcoming GNOME updates 😅

One other thing that I kind of like in Siduction is that it uses IWD daemon for network management, I think.

I have total respect for Debian for paving the way, and it's good to see a better rolling release version of it, but it just does not meet my needs as a gamer these days, but far as Ubuntu's bloated ISO I'm not surprised with all their crap, but they could learn a thing, or 2 as even Manjaro GNOME is not but around 3.7GB, and Solus Budgie is only about 2.5GB with all their extra software preinstalled, and both are still very usable even with a dirt cheap 120GB SSD after updates.

Funny. Debian Sid has once again become my daily driver, because this time around, it is completely just as stable as any other distribution. That wasn't the case 2 years ago when bookworm became the testing version. At that time, Debian Sid became a disaster for a couple of months. Made me switch to Xubuntu Cinnamon, then UbuntuCinnamon. I recently had some problems with Ubuntu's firmware on my old machine, which Debian Sid had the solution for. So it's been my daily driver for the last couple of months. The transition this time to the new Debian stable version was pretty much flawless, and had no adverse affects on Trixie or Sid. The reason I say it's funny is because a few years ago, Siduction was my daily driver for a while. That's what got me into Debian Sid in the first place. That was Siduction Cinnamon at the time, which they don't have an ISO for anymore. You can still install Cinnamon on Siduction from the repos, but I see no point, when you can just install Debian Trixie Cinnamon, and upgrade it to Sid. It rocks.

LxQt also has normal scrollbars - theme-wise and behaviour-wise, which is a big PLUS. I cannot stand those "smartphone-like" scrollbars which has been artificially slowed down, for some reason in any GTK based DE.

BTW I was also confused by Bookworm... I looked it up and now I get it. You remember when in Toy Story 3 Lotso has Buzz reprogrammed? Bookworm was the minion that kept all the toy manuals.

At first Gecko Linux had a point release version based on openSUSE Leap, and a rolling version based on openSUSE Tumbleweed. Then, when Leap ended, the dev behind Gecko launched Spiral Linux as a point release option, which is based on Debian. Now that openSUSE is desperate to alienate and rebuke all of its users, and Siduction offers a rolling Debian option, I wonder if Gecko will switch to a Siduction base instead 🤔 (Or perhaps Spiral will replace Gecko altogether and we will get a stable and rolling version of Spiral.) I certainly hope so.
