The best thing about having a distro whose controllers don't hat most of its users and potential developers is that we can contribute and donate to it. I'm still using Fedora, whose COC deems me beneath contempt and unworthy of protection against Harry's Mint, but it works.

Interesting. I began using linux with Mandrake and at the time it was very popular since it was the first distribution with a decent installer that made linux accessible to many. Glad it went smooth for you, I tried twice to install it. Thinking it might have something to do with ventoy on my end. I used to be all about the GUI installers but have kind of shifted to using the terminal for everything, seems faster and less error-prone. Though, using a GUI for a quick look at the repos is handy vs. trying to find the packages listed on the website. Looks like DNF is using the same syntax as apt to install packages, which is always nice. Though I'll probably be making a cheat sheet for this if I manage to get this distro up and running. Hopefully the influx of new users and donations will encourage this distro to polish up the rough edges, I can see there are quite a few there.

I don't know the specifics, but there's something causing it to not work with Ventoy. If you just get the iso on a drive by itself you should have no issues.

Now this is a legit distro install and review, unlike so many "drive-by" reviews that seem to be more about getting clicks. Well done, sir. i've tried it a couple times and I really approve of OpenMandriva's independence as a dstribution. If I can figure out how to get my Brother printer installed, then I would gladly give it a go as a daily driver. Although I do love MX Linux and Endeavour OS.

I have to disagree, doing any Linux distro review in the virtual box is doing it huge disservice. Its performing 3 times slower than it would on actual hardware, looks very slow and clunky, so i doubt anyone would be interested in it after looking at how slow it is in this review.

Recently started using Linux Mint, and find it about 95% there for me. I have OpenMandriva running on another machine from a couple days ago and I think I like the interface better than Mint Cinnamon. Only real issue with O-Mandriva is I can't get it to see my NAS drive at all. Mint found it immediately and has a nice GUI called Firewall Configuration . I am guessing some firewall setting, but I can't find where I would make changes to that in Mandriva. I am also wondering if I did something on the install as I had to try different things several times to get it to run. I am going to keep messing with it, and maybe I will use it in place of Mint. Again, brand new user from Windoze..

So OpenMandriva doesn't come with a SambaClient installed out of the box? Or is your NAS to New or to Old for the Version of the SMB protocoll? So what I mean is does your NAS run SMB I or SMB II and wich version of the protocoll does OpenMandrivas Samba client run? I'm not a professional System-Adminsitrator so I don't know if SMB is even envolved in the Discovery process, as on Windows I think the discovery of Network Filesystems and Computers is done via "WINS" wich is probably also a protocoll I don't know the details about, but on Ubuntu getting Samba configured mostly solved those kind of problems for me.

Cups is unsafe. You shouldn't use it. It allows for remote code execution, you can run any script you want on the Machine via CUPS and the developers of cups don't want to fix that bug, because some (old) printer models rely on the ability to insert a custom script file or to run a custom binary. I know it sucks. And I also run cups anyway. But it's realy not safe.

Hi Tom, I JUST installed OM rome on my laptop, it is really fast and responsive. I want to install it on my desktop but am a bit apprehensive of how it'll detect my other internal dirives. Fedora sort of bit me in the butt on that one as it was a mission to get them detected and loading under Fedora, Fedora kept loading my other drives under "other" and would not let me write to them until I physically added them to /mnt/...... Inside fstab, that was a pain in thr behind, and part of the readon I settled on mint, the other thing that killed it for me eas the Nvidia driver install on Fedora.... Mint just gets it done... You don't have to dick around with downloading from rpm then getting something else on anlther rpm page, then having to look for something else.... I liked the nice clean interface on Fedora, but the hoops one had to jump through to get stuff working under Fedora kind of spoiled the experiance for me...
