I really feel that if SF had the faith to put more of these experimental songs they so often relegate to EPs on albums, they'd be much more critically acclaimed. I sometimes feel.like they're holding back on expirimentation.

i agree. BUT having done/doing CCM radio for 17 years now and been in the biz for far longer than that, i can tell you for sure this type of music would NEVER get airplay. the labels are blowing it big time bro!. trust me, i would play IF they would send it. fortunately, i volunteer at an independent station. we don't have to bow to the big dogs!. the guys have almost a cultish following and not in a bad way. love their music. jon forman is one of the most prolific songwriters today. paul meany of Mutemath is a swell. how much do you hear them on the air. not very.

Ron Dunbar - Oh, of course, but they don't get airplay anyway! There are a ton of critically acclaimed and influential bands that don't get airplay anymore (radiohead, Jack white, etc). I think SF would sell more/get more hype if they allowed themselves to experiment a bit more. They're often derided as being predictable and "safe" by the critical audience, but they produce a ton of work that flies under the radar that suggest they're a lot more talented than the masses assume.

I think they had started to play it safe after some backlash from Oh! Gravity. which I think is one of their stand out albums even if I thought it was a little outside of their box at the time. Now it has some of the best tracks including "Dirty Second hands" and "Faust, Midas, and Myself".
