John Perkins came to my college today and gave a speech about having hope for the future. He was so on fire for Christ it was mesmerizing.

I think if more people listened to music with their heart than their ears, this type of music would prevail. I am so moved by Switchfoot's lyrics, and the band members are incredible . I love that they actually brought John M Perkins in for the video!

Thank you Switchfoot for being one of the few Christian bands that has an implied message about God without saying "Parise the Lord" or "I love Jesus" every other verse. With a few exceptions, Christian music takes the passion and creativity out of music.

And who are the good people? Lol most Christian music is crap, and I'm not bagging on anyone's religion, because it's pointless, and no one wins. Many bands use the Christian rock label to market to a larger audience. I see bands do that all the time. The first couple albums are strictly about God, and once their famous, you may find a song or two with tiny hints of christianity, if you read through their lyrics carefully. For example, compare lyrics from the first couple albums of Underoath to their newest albums. The lyrics are the only thing about them that has changed. Their melody never changes, and I could never even pick out a favorite Underoath song, let alone notice if a song was over. It's easy to trick christians into believing that they sing about God, seeing as their albums consist of a single song, cut when the melody changes, giving the illusion of a new track. Many Christian hardcore bands stick to this formula, because it requires no talent or creativity, and even when they "discretely" remove the word christian from their genre, no one bothers to read their lyrics. The listener assumes the song is about Christ, even if the lyrics are about life as an emo bitch. The only thing sadder than that is to read through the lyrics, and pull some deep religious message even from the most generic lyrics, probably stolen from a preteen girl's hot topic diary. If you want a simple way to know if the band you're listening to is really Christian, they will be on a popular rock station for a year or so, then drop off the face of the planet. If you want to find them, they're on K-Love. It's basically just the opposite method used by bands like Underoath, only they lose money, fans, and respect. Skillet, and yes, sadly even Switchfoot fall under this category. Although Switchfoot does manage to stay fresh, unlike Skillet, who gave up on what little creativity they had five or six years ago. They have a new song on the Christian radio every other week, but the only way to know it's new is when the dj announces it. Otherwise, you could mistake their new singles as the same song, I sure as hell did. "Real" Christian music is almost always just old gospel songs, basically what I used to pretend to sing along to during chapel service, only with the added bonus of every vocalist being the lead singer from the horrible band, Third Day.. So in a nutshell, Christian music is either recycled trash, Creed, an easy way for future emo bands to get discovered without requiring talent or variety, and bands that suddenly vanished with no explanation, but eventually finding them while changing stations, and to your horror, it's a Christian station. Then you start wishing that they had just split up or died. Honestly, if Jesus was real, he probably wouldn't even listen to Christian music, because it's all the same repetitive crap, stolen from depressing gospel songs, and a vocalist that always sounds like the guy from Third Day. Jesus would probably listen to switchfoot, because they write their own music, and have deep, spiritual meaning, knowing that a true Christian would hear their message without having to listen for "Jesus," just to recognize it as a Christian song. Saying "I love Jesus" a thousand times in your song doesn't make it Christian, if anything it just makes Christians look like they don't care enough about their God to be creative, and if Jesus listened to that kind of music, it would probably be for a cheap laugh at his so-called followers, and their lack of passion. He would probably listen to secular bands over this bad joke called Christian rock..

So, I'm hittin' the big five two in 2 months time so guess I been round the block or two (survived my near-death motorcycle accident in 1990 that resulted in me losing my entire left leg at the left hip joint and left side of my pelvis was amputated - I also suffered numerous other internal injuries - so fortunate to still be alive), also very fortunate to see Pink Floyd play Wembley Stadium/London on Aug 6th '88 when I was there on on my O.E. from here in New Zealand. Was 24 then. An infant 'spose. Went to a small gig last night with a group of fellow co-workers (we work on Maori Marae here in the south of the south island in the mainland of New Zealand). The gig was titled: 'A Night At The Movies" - we enjoyed a beautiful 2 course meal and then the show. Consisted of acts (mainly solo singers backed by the evening's band - rhythm/lead axe player, bass axer, keyboarder/overshoulder keyboads, & drummer). Well, on came a younger dude, 'bout 19-20 I reckon, he had a sweet electric rhythm axe (sorry for those unfamiliar with the term 'axe' - it is quite simply a guitar - or an artist's weapon of choice I guess), and this dude had a wicked hair style, not too long but a long fringe that hung low over his eyes. And in to his song of choice he drove. I'd never heard of it - remember please I'm hittin' five-two in 8 weeks. He drove HARD this new kid on the stage. Awesome chord player, and backed by a smaller geezer on bass axe, but don't let his smaller stature mislead you, he drove just as HARD as the kid in the lead. I loved the song from the moment the kid hit the first chord. The song? I've just identified it: 'The Sound' from Switchfoot, from the movie - 'Cabin In The Woods'. Never even heard of the movie either. So all in all I loved the kid and he has an awesome future ahead of him and I so wish him all the very, very, best. The thing I can't work out though is the 60 number of dislikes for this song. Come on now people...get a grip! If you don't like this song, I'm afraid there really is little hope for you.....'Switchfoot' - Best Wishes to you, you SO ROCK!

This video is a great tribute to the social issues that were on the forefront in Perkin's time- the 1960s. It's interesting to think how much progress has been made, but how much injustice remains in the world. I think he's right though....love is a fight. It's hard. Hard as hell (especially when you're loving oppressors). But it's so worth it. "If i have not love it profits me nothing." AMEN.
