As someone who transitions constantly between digital and traditional media, I never found a video that describes it that well. Yes, when you try watercolor after a long break on it can be very struggling and it's normal to feel a little bit frustrated but you get a hang of it with practice and time. I loved how you mix ink, watercolor, and colored pencils together it simply adds a lot more brightness to the drawing. Also seeing the process in "real-time" is pretty refreshing compared to speedpaints I personally feel like a learn more with it. The final result is amazing as always thank you for the video and I'm very glad that you're posting on yt again! :)

I really like the video being in real time and spliced. This felt very authentic. I move from collage to sculpture to watercolor and every time I go from one media to another I feel like my art supplies and I have to get reacquainted again.

Sometimes the grainy look of a watercolor is just the nature of that pigment. Some are granulating and some are staining. Daniel Smith watercolors are really great if you’re looking for different brands to experiment with. 💚

I feel that way too sometimes. I have a streak of doing one of the both and when I want to do something on the other I push it back and when I do, it never looks right and I get frustrated. But I also think it's nice to take a break when you're feeling bad about what you're doing. I feel like taking a step back for as much as you need and then looking at it with a cool head always serves me right to take the next step. If I need to fix something, I will; if I need to change the way I approach that piece, I will.... and if it doesn't have a solution, it doesn't! And that's fine as well. I've learnt that the hard way and I definately saved myself a lot of headaches by doing that.

About the constantly getting out of frame problem, you can mark on your table edges of the area the camera is actually picking up with pieces of tape, so you can have a direct visual reference of where you shoud keep the paper while working. But I really liked the video and I like this format way more than normal speed paints kk I love the end result btw!

I love watching you work traditionally. There's a good sort of calm to it, and the process is transfixing. I'm kind of in a similar boat; My passion is traditional, but almost all of my freelance is digital. It isn't that I don't think my traditional art would sell, but that the process is so chaotic, and the outcome isn't as 'sure' a bet as digital, that the idea of people not getting what they might expect gives me anxiety.

It was so lovely and calming to watch the process in real time, and the end result was so beautiful! For the watercolours, you might just be using more granulating pigments or paper that causes more granulation, not necessarily poor quality watercolours. I tend to find that the more expensive (series 4) pigments that use minerals are the worst for granulating and you're better off using the cheaper hues. It might still be worth reading into if you can bear to get them out again haha :')

Ah I see! I don't know much about art materials on an in-depth level haha, should probably do more research. I think I tend to always go back to coloured ink because it's more risky (..exciting?) and more smooth/has no graininess whatsoever. Unfortunately i don't even remember which watercolours I have, but they're really old (squeezed them into a palette like 15 years ago) and maybe some sort of beginner set (not artist grade). Maybe in the future i'll look into getting some fancy watercolours to try

@@CosmicSpectrumArt Some brands like Daniel Smith will tell you whether a particular tube of paint is granulating or not. I also watch In Liquid Color videos when choosing which watercolors to buy. She's very thorough and has a brand-by-brand series, as well as color-by-color.

@@CosmicSpectrumArt If you want non granulating watercolors (because I really enjoy the transparency but I want more control on them) I'd recommend Holbein or Mission Gold if you prefer cheap (they're both equally good)

this hits hart, i also have this sort of anxiety that prevents me from doing the thing i should be doing all the time but with learning (in drawing too but regarding studies of anatomy or smth like that and its not really bad i just draw for fun) and it sucks, its still there even after i graduated school. I am n college now, a subject i thought im genuinly interested in, but when it comes to actually sitting down and learning i just dont wanna do it, im so tired this. maybe oversharing but i just felt the need to comment. While im at it, your videos are very calming and extremely inspirational to me, i love the way you draw traditionally so much

anxiety is horrible and you often dont have a reason that it happens, it just does sadly it does take a different part of your brain to switch back and forth between the 2 types and it can def be stressful trying to 'get back in the groove' after not doing one of them for awhile, but it just takes a bit of time for ours brains to 'switch' back on to the method of working and muscle memory kicks back in and that can cause anxiety we just might not realize it at the time
