If something is broken I never clean before wrenching, many times it's the old marks that tells you how to put it together again. Also, if I buy a car or something and the engine is newly washed I get very suspicious, probably an oilleak somewere.

Very true how nice it is to see someone clean off the areas to be worked on. Doesn't matter what it is to be worked on, especially if it is in an area that gets greasy or oily, or from broken hoses, keeps the machine sanitary and the worker and parts cleaner.

Nice video! I wish you had it posted about 2 months ago. I'm a Takeuchi parts dealer in the US and have a customer with the same machine change to steel tracks. He was having trouble with the last pin and I couldn't be of much help since I got them from a 3rd party vendor. Customer is a government highway dept and often has to work in creeks with sharp rocks. They would wear out the rubber ones in about 300 hours. One question: did your dealer tell you about the additional parts that should be added to the machine? Extra guides go on each side to keep the steel track in line and a step extension because track is wider. I too am impressed to see you clean it before working on it. Takes a few minutes longer, but easier!

I didnt see him back off the recoil springs either. Generally recoils for rubber tracks are wound up tighter because of the stretch you get in rubber tracks.

The log you picked up had me thrown for a while. I thought it was going to be used to prop something up while changing tracks. I didn't think that you would be using it to untension the track. Very well done getting it all done by yourself.

So one very important thing I learned from this video is the unique track tensioning system that Takeuchi uses…I have a C50R track dumper and it’s track started to slack off on me and come to find out it has hydraulic cylinders that tension the tracks and I couldn’t figure out how they actuate in order to tension them and low and behold you have to put it in high gear to put pressure to the cylinders…which is funny because I almost never use rabbit mode in my dumper but I was working at my neighbours house a few weeks ago and I put it in rabbit mode to drive down the road and noticed my tracks were tight again!..my goodness!..🤦🏻‍♂️

Hi nice job 👍 you have to decrease the track tensioning pressure from 20bar to 10bar when going from rubber to steal crawlers soon you will find that they will bee very tight that will wear out your new chain faster and the undercarriage will be more difficult to maneuver there's a pressure limiting valve inside the undercarriage you need a pressure gauge (50bar) on a 1/4" BSP T piece fitting and a hex key remember to take the pressure off the tracks before like when you took of the rubber tracks That's the only down side to this hydraulic track tensioning every time there's space for the front wheel to move it will do so when moving i 2. Gear resulting in tight tracks and some time not travel straight Nice to see your work flow enjoy your new steal tracks cheers from 🇩🇰

Taking off the pads on the 2 last links makes putting the pin in easier. Also, the pin is meant to be pressed in usually. A bottle jack will typically work on its side. I made a press out of allthread 2 steel plates and a bottle jack.

To throw my 2 cents in, I've done grousers and track chains mostly alone before. A little trick I found is to pull the track on by running a tie down strap around the idler and using the final drive as capstan winch. I had ropes tied to the levers and with one hand i pulled the track lever and the other hand i pulled on the capstan tail.

The craks in the rubber traks is absolutly normal and where is a bit wavy as you mentioned the steel wires are not broken, a brand new tracks would look like the same, so there was no problem with that rubber track

I remember doing tracks and a sprocket change on a Hitachi log loader in the field. Same method just larger scale. Lots of come alongs to get the track in, the sprocket change was a job itself, must have weighed 250lbs. No HIAB, working in lots of mud. Fun times.

That track tension was a great system, never heard about it before. Will it always tension it when you run 2 speed? And why is your videos mainly in mono sound?

Neither did I, so it was a pleasant surprise. Yes it will. On the new camera i got, i have a dual microphone. One for the front and one for the back. When I edit i use a single speaker to listen to the video. So i never realized the microphone on the back created its own track for the right side, thus its really annoying watching it with a headset on. Sadly i cant fix this without re-uploading the video.

The only solution is to set the audio settings to mono on your own device, since using stereo will create the dual track.

Would probably never noticed it just watching on the phone but with the headset it's really easy to hear. No problem with it was just wondering why it was like that. You probably already know but you don’t have to run steel tracks so tight in muddy condition I was told to run them 4 fingers under the middle roller it will help turn in the mud and 3 fingers in the dry. If you run them as tight as rubber tracks they stretch and you’ll have to replace them sooner.

As he mentioned, the machine auto-tightens the track when in second gear, so he didn't have to do anything other than run the track while lifted.

Ya never use used sprockets on new track rail pins, if they are, the sprockets and pins wear out faster and premature, it's easy and one of the least expensive components to change, instead of costing more down the short line.

Alot of people will say the old sprockets had lots of life left on them, but im like you. Match them new with new so that you dont potentially shorten the life span of both new sprockets or new chains

Rubber tracks don’t appear so worn out. Mine are much more, already 2 Steel carrier parts went off from the rubber and I’m still using them (with care)

I bought them from Entrack, not sure if they are available in other countries. But they import most of their stuff from Italy. The rollers are the same for steel as rubber. Thanks!

Just watched guys in an Indian rebar factory, hand loading a crucible, pouring, moulding, stretching coiling, stacking molted steel to rebar. The had nothing but flip flops (some with extra cloth tied around their feet) traditional long shirt, baseball caps and all while man handling molten or red hot steel. Next video to pop up is this gent changing tracks in full PPE including ear defender's while using a pressure washer. Different world's.

Rubber is great for when you need to do as little damage as possible to the ground. Get them in snow though and they become a danger to load on certain trailer.

Run your track on with a chain on your bucket then you can take the slack out, making it easier to get the pin in. You'll notice the difference with steel tracks.

Tack! Tror dom maskinerna är i snarlik klass. Anledningen till att ha gummiband är om man kör på hårda ytor man inte vill skada, som betong och asfalt. Men gör man sällan det som jag, så ser jag bara fördelar med att ha stålband då dom håller mycket bättre.

Steel tracks are far superior than rubber tracks, and they work perfect on paved asphalt or concrete roads or parking lots, just bolt on rubber segments, as the steel tracks have pre drilled holes for them, just as those steel tracks have pre drilled holes for rubber segments to be put on or off as needed. They last way longer and less likely to get thrown off from catching edges.
