This is so cool - as always, I'm in awe of the scope of your skills & adaptability. Thank you for offering this interesting glimpse into many things most people don't normally get to see! Capable of running an arctic Jet airfield single handedly. Absolute badass, nothing but respect - from the US!

Truely impressive skills Tobias, I had no clue you are so skilful in so many areas. But I have to say: the transformers for the runway lights are a disgrace. Looks like an amateur design. But you are the man to correct it! I'm waiting for the film... 😄

55:10 you know what will happen when the bank caves in? I know….you will probably die. If there’s nobody else working with you then you will definitely die.

51:28 I have to say something because I feel guilt if I don’t. This is VERY dangerous! If that trench caved in it would crush you enough that you can’t breathe because it crushes your lungs or crush your back, your pelvis, could break your legs or worse you could be BURIED! People take shortcuts until there’s an accident and someone is badly injured or killed, then when it’s too late they are careful. Any trench 4 feet deep or deeper must have shoring or the walls of the trench must be sloped from the 4 foot mark. Once you reach 4 feet deep you must slope the sides of your trench or use a shoring box. Don’t take chances on your life or others lives and unless you’re a psychopath you will feel guilty about causing someone else’s injury or death. Edit: 51:25 you bend over like that you have no idea how deadly that is, you wouldn’t even notice that bank was letting go until it was too late. Im a retired heavy equipment operator from Canada. I’ve decades of experience and wisdom, I know what im talking about. Don’t take chances, you only die once!!!

I am sure you know. To improve the runway lights it will need a costly modification. All electrcal cnnections and transformers must be, as per code , in a water sealed box at least 1 m above gound.

Great machine. I have a tiny 24L silent compressor from Hyundai. It makes 8 bars of pressure and suits my needs. This compressor is like 50 times as big 😂

So the lighting system is 2x 5kv ring circuits right. I get why its two circuits any why its a ring I would be a pretty stupid electrician to not understand that part but why its the Voltage transformed up to 5kv? Seems illogical to do that because it adds a transformer for each light and a central transformer to provide the 5kv. Also adds a lot of complexity to the wiring becase 5kv a a lot harder to contain than 230v or 400v. Is it a 5kv system because the wires are simply so long that 230v or 400v is not possible eithout using very large cables? But the lights cant be pulling a lot of current either. If it was up to me to build something like this I would calculate the currents and the needed cable cross section for either 230v or 400v and either branch off the main feeder with a resin T joint for each light or install an above ground box with enough distance from the runway for it to not be damaged which would be my far preferred solution since the ring feeder can then be properly accessed at each light for fault finding and fixing the fault.

Either the plane you spoke of was not from Leeds or the plane you were de-icing was on a different day. That specific plane made several visits to Pajala from Teesside, London Gatwick, Norwich, Liverpool, Glasgow but never from Leeds.

Is there some local ordinance that stopped you throwing a bag of salt into that well? How about a small pump as well? Although I loved the "hack" of throwing snow onto water to make slush, so it can be shovelled.
@tokslut6 сағат бұрын
Copper/Aluminium and salt don't mix well
@nicktecky553 сағат бұрын
@@tokslut Absolutely. But, in the environment of a winter airport runway and deicer-soaked aircraft, there will be large amounts of all sorts of pollutants. The conductors are only protected by the connectors which should be proof from any fluid intrusion. There is no secondary protection from the 'well' at all.
