Love my Micro Studio 4k g2’s! Have three of them and three Pocket Cinema 4k’s and two studio 4k pro’s. I rigged out one micro studio 4k G2 for craps and giggles, I’m absolutely loving it 👍

Great vid brother. I too use to use Sony cameras (A7SIII, A7III, A6400, to name a few) I shoot with BMMS4KG2 as well. I use it for hand held and tripod. I plan to get more of them for studio work. I think it is a great option for the money. Once you take it outside of it's intended studio use you then have to rig it to your liking and that is where there is more cost involved. Maybe you may want to try a Metabones Speedbooster. I have the .64X which changes the crop from 2.121 to 1.35744. also gives you a stop and third more light.

Love using my BMMCCs - they really make you think - as you said. This not a lazy man's camera. But it is the perfect learning camera for those who want to aspire to be a cinematographer some day. It will teach you all the basics of being a good cinematographer and will reward you with outstanding images captured. 👍👍

When you mentioned clean feed etc. What about SDI out to HDMI (using a converter). That gives you optionally much higher res and leaves the regular hdmi for just monitoring and heads to display.

9:20 I'm not sure I would be comfortable relying on the camera chassis itself to deal with all the forces that might be exerted via that top thread. Hopefully there is a more minimal cage than that horrible super chunky cage i know you're referring to. At least that way all the rough and tumble will be absorbed through the age instead.

Did you see the alt cine expansions for micro G2? I use the back for additional mounting points.. looking to get more stuf from them. I think the atem software has a focus function and that can be routed to a stream deck. That should work with the atem mini pro iso too. Just got that, going to test tomorrow.

I'm planning on picking up a MS4K G2 to run on my RS2 rig instead of the way too large and heavy PCC6K Pro. I would have ran the PCC4K I have, but I had the PodTech mod installed, which removes the ability to use the AC power, so I lose the weight savings. I'm expecting it to be similar in image quality to the PCC4K.

I really want to get one of these as a fun project but also compact cine cam. I currently shoot on the P4K and believe this is the same sensor (it certainly looks like the same footage). I would want to make it even more compact - so NP/L battery , maybe smaller SSD, like you Meike lenses (I have a set of four of these sitting around that I haven't used for over two years but can't bring myself to sell them!) Maybe a blackmagic video assist so I can review what I film and a side handle (or small top handle or both)... I'd also use my current set of Zeiss Milvus lenses in more serious shoots as they make everything look incredible. I wonder how that top mounting point will cope over time with all that weight on one mounting screw (when carrying by the handle). I too would want to avoid a cage if I can... Having shot on my P4K for coming up on three years, I can't see the image becoming obsolete probably ever it's so nice, so a camera like this would have so many uses - and be a great option for family footage.

I use the blackmagic video assist and I have the camera set to record automatically to the monitor and the SSD which allows me to play back footage taken the G2

What camera are you filming this on? We are trying to decide on what to replace our old Sony Ex3 studio cams with and one of the options is the BM Studio Camera 4k pro g2 which i think uses the same sensor as the micro, but there are zero reviews of the gen 2 Studio 4k models and all the reviews of the gen 1 all talk about how they have weird green colors in the SDI outputs??

Will von Tagen has a video all about the Micro G2. He also goes over how to use the focus and zoom demands while still being able to record. You can use a USBC hub on the G2 to get more USB ports so you can have both the handle and an SSD connected.

"A bulky cage" ? The original Small rig cage for the BMMCC Full HD, has the same dimensions and accepts the BMMC 4K G2.

Based on your example footage, I think you need to get up to speed in Resolve before you make the switch. What you showed looks very washed out, almost LOG like. I would look into setting your project / timeline color space into Davici Wide Gamut which will automatically convert your footage into rec709 without LUTS or CSTs. Also, since you are recording in BRAW, you can adjust ISO, exposure and temp in post with a LOT of flexibility. If you know what you are doing, its actually pretty hard to get shots that look as bad as yours, and I don't say that to be insulting. If you were using external, don't record to an external monitor, record in BRAW and you will be amazed at how much better your image will turn out. If you were, definitely look into how you can adjust the BRAW settings in the color tab. Do that first, then use your wheels / curves. Also keep in mind of the dual band ISO. There is a chart that compares gain to ISO. The native bands are 400 and 3200. Side bar, until very recently, most movies were shot with a 35 mil equivalent sensor so it's not like you are really handicapped by m43. I know that is another convo though lol
