Choosing a specific distro is a bit overhyped. At the end of the day, it’s all Linux under the hood. Just go with whatever works for you the best. Good luck! :)

I'm a security engineer and programmer and I personally use Ubuntu for my daily drive and my home server, it's a great choice for beginners. Good luck on your Linux journey.

people within the Linux space have a little bit of a disliking for Ubuntu, for a lot of reasons. given your new- none of it is important to you, Ubuntu is fantastic distro, i got my start on it. only thing that can be annoying is gnome (the desktop environment) but otherwise its great! the whole not dual booting thing was from when a windows update deleted some users grub boot loader, making Ubuntu (and other distros) fail to boot up. last but not least loll, unless your doing gaming, for your "oh i need this program and there's no Linux option" wine will get ya by just fine. if my understanding is right, you can also use a mixture of steam's proton and wine to get stuff going too- I'm not all too sure but I've heard that's a thing. bottles I'm pretty sure is gaming oriented- i don't do a lot of gaming nor really use the translation layers much (having moved everything to free and opened source options and keeping wine just in case) so my knowledge is limited but, hopefully this helps a little :)

BUT, there will be some apps and programs that just wont work at all- so just see online if the thing your trying to run can even run with any of the translation layers.

I’m learning lots, this is great! 😄Yeah, the only reason I’m using the Ubuntu distro is just because I’m familiar with it, and (for what I’m using it for) is doing just fine. I haven’t really tried using any translation layers quite yet, but I will likely set those up sometime if need be… Anyways, thanks for the support and information 💖✌️

spicefy the spotify thing ??? thats on linux wine if for running apps proton is basicly modified wine for games

Yeah, spicetify the Spotify thing… I know they have Linux support for it, but I just couldn’t, for the life of me, get it to work… so I turned to the jenky approach of just using a vm as I have plenty of experience with them, and getting it to work under windows was a breeze 😅😂
