For anyone beginning to study drums, it is, in my opinion, hugely important to find the most comfortable approach as we are all different. Besides anyone studying drumming should understand the importance of improving our less developed abilities. I am currently focusing on improving the weaker hand, which is to included some open handed exercises, will probably upload a video soon. As per advice, check out Billy Cobham his a pioneer open handed player he'd suggest playing the ride on the left

Thanks! Yeah, sadly it is not so much that I find it "more comfortable" to play open handed. It really feels like back to square one at time, but I can see the logic and long term benefits. I can sense some benefits to the creativity aspect too. I suspect if I was "further down the line", I would find it impossible to make the change. It is worth trying now as it's not a big deal and if I change my mind again, worst that has happened is that I would have made my left hand better.! It's a win either way. Hey, I look forward to seeing you video on the topic. Will be great. I'll check out Billy Cobham. great stuff!
