Very basic history lesson from Diane - one of the reasons why Europe had more advanced technology was because Europe is smaller with a wide range of countries in a concentrated area to trade with. Europe traded/conquered more and had more ports to travel to other counties and share the different cultures and ideas. North America much bigger and not as easy to exchange culture and ideas with other counties/cultures. Great video, we look forward to going back to Mesa Verde.

We went to Mesa Verde in August, on our way to Ouray, Colorado. We absolutely loved it too. We also stayed at Harvest Host, 5C Cattle Ranch. We really enjoyed the Mountain View’s, the large pull through sites along with the peace & quiet. We met our host, Caroline & their very sweet cattle dog, Scooby. Keep up the great work. As usual, loved this video!

Im a guide At Mesa Verde , I wish I could have been there . Great questions your asking . I just answer the first one i heard . Mesa Verde is actually a Questa . The difference between a Questa and a Mesa is a Questa has a slant where a Mesa is flat . This particular Questa slants to the east . It gets the whole days sun where the valley and the surrounding areas dont . This extended there growing season by alot and made it more fruitful . When your livelihood is crops this is a big deal. Corn , beans and squash were they main crops ,( the 3 sisters ) The closest water source was the Mancos river 6 miles away . But they did have reservoirs that would capture melting snow and rain. Also in the back of alcoves they built their Cliff dwelling were seepage springs. And yes wild game and other resources were def more abundant up there back then . Cheers ! If your ever back around , reach out and we will do it proper !

Sheila, the rooms are called kivas and they are more like church area. They are used mainly by men. There are still kivas in present day tribes in Arizona.
@greggemberling5868
@greggemberling5868 Жыл бұрын
There were great Kivas that were used this way for sure . But the smaller ones you see at Cliff Palace and other places were family gathering places , 22 of the actually at Cliff Palace . Common Kivas were basically the living room and good place to retreat during winter .

We were there 29 days ago after leaving Durango on our counter clockwise tour of the Mighty Five. We just finished the last at Zion and each was spectacular. Interested if you go to Four Corners and Monument Valley from Mesa Verde before Moab. I hope you hit Arches and Canyonlands at Moab and rented a Jeep to give Sheila a another taste. Shafer Trail down into the canyons was awesome (our toad is a Jeep). Thanks for the quick look at Mesa Verde. We spent 2 days there and have decided to go back and spend 4 in the future.

Mesa Verde is so cool! My parents took us back in the 80s and my husband and I took our own girls and my parents back there in 2005. We toured both Cliff Palace and Balcony House. Such a fascinating history. Where did they go? Great vlog! Sheila, watching you two at the beginning - I feel your pain....men! 😂😂😂😂 Todd, yay - you said You-ray! WTG!

The #1 reason to visit Mesa Verde is to visit the cliff dwellings and do a ranger guided tour. We visited a few years ago a did 2 guided tours which were great. Also, there are a lot of Tarantulas around that area, which Todd would just love! Lol!
