My Switch story: The Nintendo switch was released to stores everywhere and I wanted to get one as soon as possible. So I start calling up all the stores in my area or near town. GameStop, Walmart, Best buy, and Target and they didn't have any. I tried again a week later but they still didn't have one. I even got up early one morning to go to the store open getting there early mendyke still had a chance of obtaining one. On my birthdayday I decided to call up GameStop one last time before I gave up on my quest. I called GameStop and the clerk answered. I told her that I was looking for a Switch and wondered if they had any. Expecting the same old, "sorry sir we don't have any you'll have to check in later", but she didn't say that. She told me she they had two in the back and I just sat there shocked. I actually had a chance to get a Switch! I rushed over there and spent all the money I had saved up since presentation. On the Switch, a Procontroler, and a copy of BotW. It was the best birthday ever.

My Switch story: I saw the Switch reveal trailer at school in math class at 9 am on October 20, 2016; on mute, on my computer when I was supposed to be doing my school work... It was amazing. From then on, Switch took up my life pretty much exclusively until February 22nd, 2018 when tax returns finally came and I had enough money readily available so that I was FINALLY able to get one; it was the first console I ever got within a year of its release. By that time, Switches could be found easily at any retail store really, so I went to my local Meijer and got the grey console and Super Mario Odyssey as my first game. Then in April, I was able to get Breath of the Wild as my second game as a birthday present. Then on July 13th I was able to get Splatoon 2 at my Walmart... And was the worst experience I've ever had at a store; I kept asking the employees for help getting the game out of the case for me, but it took OVER AN HOUR and like 10 different people to finally assist me. I hated Walmart before that, but afterwards I hate them SO much more.... For a few months, I kept playing that until September when I got my newest two games as-of-now; Mario Tennis and Kirby Star Allies. One of my friends gave me their New Nintendo 3DS XL or whatever but I already had a 2DS, an having another console that played the same games simply didn't interest me. I know it wasn't the greatest trade off for me, but I ended up getting those two games for essentially free. But then on October 26, 2018 Red Dead Redemption 2 launched, and I got that and played that pretty much exclusively until pretty much a couple weeks ago. Now tax returns have come around again and instead of getting any Switch stuff, I got a Wii U console and a ton of games because I collect consoles (And have dozens of them spanning from the early 70's through today) and was the only Nintendo console I didn't have. So, yeah. That's my Switch (and more, lol) story! :P

I haven't felt any lack in Switch games, because so far it's been the most plentiful collection of interesting games I've had from any console or system. My Switch game collection is about to surpass my 3DS collection, and has already passed my other console game collections. There's still so many games that are coming out this year that I want to get as well, in addition to some games I own that I haven't had a chance to play yet, so I've got way more than I could ever want.

I love how nobody commented on arlos statements and opinions on where the switch is headed. He's not wrong. The more time that goes by, the more the switches issues will become apparent. I love my switch but i knew it'd have these issues and quickly, especially when a new generation is coming out. Good thing for nintendo though, visual technology is starting to hit a wall and performance and development is getting easier and better. So eventually nintendo's hardware and games will be very close to what Sony and xbox have. Just maybe not at 100+ Fps.
@SaviorGabriel5 жыл бұрын
Well, yeah. That's just how it goes with technology. Every system has its flaws, and there's always things we wish they could do better. It's not like we're ignoring those issues, it just goes with the territory. We know things can be better, and we want them to. For now, we're just living in the moment, and looking forward to what's to come for the Switch. We can worry about addressing issues once the next generation Nintendo system comes along, or if they decide to make a hardware update to the Switch itself. Whichever comes first. People just love the Switch despite its flaws.
@Graphomite5 жыл бұрын
Whether on purpose or unintentionally, the fact Nintendo is behind in some aspects is kind of ingenious. While the rest of the consoles hit a wall, Nintendo still has plenty of room to grow. They can entice us with shit we've already experienced on other consoles. What is the next PS or Xbox console gonna market as a selling point? I honestly have no idea. Especially Xbox, now that Xbox1X exists. My first guess was that they'll do a hybrid like Nintendo, but PS already dabbled in handhelds and kinda failed, and I don't Xbox dialing back on performance (their only major selling point?) to sell a hybrid.

Can’t wait to see you finally! As for my Switch, I love it. It honestly represents everything Nintendo COULD be in my eyes. It has arguably the best Legend of Zelda AND Mario titles on it, it’s finally reviving Metroid Prime, it’s the first console EVER to get a main series Pokémon title due to its handheld nature, it’s got almost objectively the best Smash title ever, it’s getting Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Pikmin 4... the only thing I can honestly ask for to make the console pure perfection in my eyes is Paper Mario. The REAL Paper Mario. If Nintendo pulls that out of their little magical hat of video games, I’ll actually cry tears of joy.

Honestly, I'm surprised the PS4 graphics blow you away, having been playing your Switch. I have a very powerful gaming PC, one that makes a PS4 look like a cheap toy, and when I go back and forward between it and my Switch... the graphics don't immediately leap out. On the other hand, first-party Nintendo games make all other systems seem lacking. EDIT: Also, hardware issues... had none. Nada. Zero. All four Joycons and both pro Controllers still as smooth as silk!

In the past two years my Switch has become an essential part of my gaming life. Since I always only played Nintendo this was the system to introduce me to the Indie market. I found a new way of playing that's impossible with other consoles: play the game on TV, get stuck on something, take the Switch out, walk up and down the room for a while, figure out the problem, connect with TV again, continue. Still, people around me haven't yet understood the functions of the Switch. Whenever I offer to bring my Switch or when I'm playing on it and offer someone to join, they are just confused. "No, don't bring a home console, I don't want to pluck it in." "How are we supposed to play together, when you only have one console and I don't have one?" It's delightful, how people are amazed that the joy cons function as individual controllers and that the Switch doesn't need a TV. Even after two years, the system is still basically witch craft to most people (in my experience).

I got my switch In April of 2017, a month late due to the shortages. I have spent very little time with my switch due to the lack of games I really care for. BOTW didn't entice me with it's game play so I beat Gannon pretty quick and never touched the game again. I never even bothered with the DLC because I knew I'd be wasting my money. I bought Splatoon 2 that summer and it just wasn't able to hook me like the first game. It wasn't until Xenoblade 2 came out that my switch saw any kind of use. I played about 70 hours of that game before I shelved it because I wasn't having fun anymore. It wasn't until December 2018 that I used my switch consistently. Smash was great but for Christmas my sister bought me Xenovervse 2. I played Xenoverse 2 for weeks on end and I learned to really appreciate my switch. I only use my Switch docked because it's to awkward to use as a portable without the carrying case. In conclusion I appreciate the Switch for what it is and I'm glad I bought it. I am just disappointed by the lack of games that interest me, hopefully Pokemon SS and the eventual Pikmin game will solve that issue. It makes me so happy to see everyone loving Nintendo again and glad they are enjoying the games that are available.

Well, that's not really the switches or the games fault that nothing interests you sadly, so you can't really put blame on them. Nintendo has always been heavy with rpg type games.

I’m baffled with your uninterest in BOTW. It sucked me from the start and i didn’t even tried to get near the castle until after 250 hours of gameplay or so.

I still remember that day in late June when my mother said she had a surprise for me and walked outside, went into the truck, came back with a switch and I lost my mind. Ever since then I’ve been enjoying the switch everyday of my life

Nah I hope Nintendo doesn't hop on the "graphics bandwagon" that's the reason 90% of AAA titles are shit. High graphics = high cost and publishers recoup that cost by taking stuff out the other parts of the game and aggressively marketing it, you mentioned Tomb Raider well Tomb Raider had amazing graphics but was still deemed a failure by Squeenix as it didn't sell enough copies to to meet its profit projections (note it sold millions like 3.4M IIRC). Nintendo oth just sold 1M of Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker, but guess what since the cost is lower Nintendo still made a tidy profit off that game. So one game sold 3.4M and was deemed a failure but the other game sold 1M and was seen as one of the best selling titles....clearly the difference is the high cost of production a huge part of which is the graphics. I'm part of the PC Gaming Master race and I find it absurd Sony and Microsoft are going into these graphics war like seriously if you want 4K graphics just get a gaming pc compared to the GTX 2060 the graphics in the PS4 Pro and XBox 1 look like trash. Nintendo is doing the right thing by focusing on the game play and experience rather than graphics because graphics are the least important part games, pretty sure Tetris 99 is a better game than Ryse: Son of Rome with its "amazing graphics" back in 2013. Nintendo graphics aren't the best but they are still really pretty, just look at Breathe of the Wild and tell me that's an ugly game. But because the graphics aren't "cutting edge" (as cutting edge as consoles go anyway) then their costs are lower and so their margin projections are also more lax, this allows Nintendo to take more of a risk and come up with lots of experimental IP I mean look at Yoshi's crafting World, if developing games on the Switch cost an arm and a leg no way that game gets made, all we will get is watered down Super Mario and Pokemon experiences that look graphically awesome but play like crap. Nintendo, you do you.

Tomb Raider (2013) was also deemed a failure by many longtime fans of that series for the same reasons you mentioned, but that's a long rant/review for another time. Unfortunately, there will always be that casual crowd that doesn't really play games and buys the latest slop because 'muh graphics are da bestest'. If we could cut them off we could finally say good riddance to trash like CoD...
@nicolle21265 жыл бұрын
i agree with you on some level, like i really don't want nintendo to hop on the "realistic = better" bandwagon. But i do wish they pushed the envelope on their graphics just a smidge, like removing visible aliasing on shadows, making their games run smoother with less stutter, that sort of thing. I do love their more cartoony and stylized approach to their games though and wouldn't trade it for anything
@cephuwu5 жыл бұрын
I get your point, but I wouldn't say Treasure Tracker's the fairest comparison to make, seeing as it's a port.
@SaoLorenco5 жыл бұрын
100% agree with this. As long as the graphics are "good enough" - Nintendo can keep pouring all their creativity into gameplay, design and experience.

For real though the joycon stick issue is getting really annoying for me. I got my right stick replaced since it was still under warranty but then my left stick started acting up as well but by then my warranty was over. Eventually my right stick also started to act up again and unlike of lot of people I don’t have a spare $70 lying around to spend on another pair of joycons that will probably get messed up.
@timesez38955 жыл бұрын
Ya probably better to get a pro controller at that point. The sticks on the joycons are pretty flimsy. I know you can't afford one because its about the same cost, but it is a lot more sturdy. I have had mine for around the same time as my joycons, and it hasn't had stick issues.

Do some research via Google and KZbin, get a repair kit, get replacement parts, and attempt to fix them. Personally I find controllers fairly easy to fix.

Year 2 of my Switch was admittedly somewhat more subdued than the first year, but not by much. It was a great year for third party content, which is something I don't think I have said about any Nintendo system since the SNES. More than half of my Switch collection is third-party games, which even the Wii could not come close to being able to say (and I had more third-party titles on my Wii than any other Nintendo system up to now).

I can't believe it's been 2 years already! That was a fast couple of years, and it's crazy to see how large the library has grown in such a short amount of time. I remember that people were complaining about the library at launch. But look at it now. Dang, it's good to be a Nintendo fan.

I remember when the switch was first launched I stood outside Target to get one in the cold for 2 hours with some other guys. It was the first time I could ever afford to buy a console at launch. I had wanted the special bundle BOTW game bundle but they were sold out everywhere. Eventually the target people come out and hand out ticket for the Nintendo switches and I get the neon red and blue. I was the 4th person in line and let me tell you it was worth it because low and behold when it came time to pick up my switch when the doors opened they had the BOTW game bundle with the case an everything. They only had 5 bundles so had I came any later I would of missed out. Hands down one of my most cherished memories.

The Switch, and in particular Switch in 2018, has been something of a revelation for me. I enjoyed the first year a lot, I don’t really go in for AAA games (Nintendo or otherwise), so Breath of the Wild and Odyssey kinda flopped for me, but the indie scene and smaller Nintendo games really carried me hard that year. Fire Emblem Warriors, Slime-san, Deemo, This is the Police, the End is Nigh, all were some of the best games I’ve played in years. In the last year, then, that feeling somehow both grew much more profound and really became something new altogether. I have a lot of Switch games I’m excited for this year, a lot of them Nintendo-published, but having gone through a second year I now recognize that my favorite thing about the Switch is that it almost exactly does everything I could want a system to do. Indie games, which comprise almost all of the best games being currently released imo, have a wonderful home on Switch. If they only come to one console, they come to Switch, where they’re frequently embraced at a rate greater than the rest of the platforms combined. This healthy ecosystem has led to a bunch of limited print companies embracing the system, too, and so I own so many physical copies of indie games I’d never have expected I’d get a chance to hold onto forever, more and more all the time. The Japanese niche demo has found a really welcoming home here, too, something I’m constantly finding neat deep cut surprises in. Gal*Gun 2, Nights of Azure 2, so many different shoot em ups, all at home in a place I’m excited to find them. The thing out of Nintendo themselves I’m most excited about, then, is seeing them hold up Octopath Traveler, see them publish Travis Strikes Again, and see the really cool games they’re producing, even if not developing, going into this next year (e.g. Daemon X Machina, Astral Chain). These titles are the Nintendo games I’ve come to care about, they feel adventurous and exciting and inventive in a way that I don’t think Nintendo is really capable of being anymore. It doesn’t really matter though, because they’re happily paying and supporting other devs in doing so. I’d love themes, but that’s really my biggest complaint with the system, honestly. I own more physical games for my Switch than I’ve ever owned for a platform, easily, and counting digital I probably own more games on my Switch than I’ve had for any two systems combined. And I have a list of like thirty physical games releasing within the next year alone I’m excited for. I realized it a couple months ago, but the Switch is my favorite system already and feels like it’s only just getting going.
