I'd also add the Interlaken - Luzern train to the collection. It's a narrow-gauge cog-wheel affair climbing up and down the separating mountain range. No reservations necessary, it runs every hour, has a bistro car and panorama (tall) windows. The views are obligatorily breathtaking, you just have to sit on the right side of the train (when facing the engine). The train reverses direction before it begins its climb but stay on the same side of the train.

@@chacastor Yes, of course. Just sit on the right-hand side again (when facing the front of the train). This will miss the initial views of Lake Lucerne on your left but after that you'll have an uninterrupted series of great panoramas. Again, in Meiringen the train reverses direction, so the last leg of the journey (along the shore of Lake Brienz leading to Interlaken) you'll see with your back to the engine (if you started facing forward). Of course if the train is not busy or you ride 1st class, you'll have plenty of room to change seats as you please.

I was delighted that Louis included the line from Lausanne up through the Vineyards on the way to Bern. In September 2019 I was travelling around Switzerland on a first class Swiss Travel Pass. I just managed to catch the !R15 leaving Lausanne at 1644. The only spare upstairs seat was next to a very well-dressed woman who spent most of the journey to Bern engrossed in her lap-top. But she did pause to admire the Lavaux vineyards! Nearly three hours later, watching the evening SRF news I had a shock. 'Hey, that the woman I was sitting next to on the train from Lausanne to Bern!' She was/is Bundesratin Karin Keller-Sutter, now (2024) Finance-Minister and Vice-President of the Confederation.

If you want to ride through the Gotthard rail in winter there also is "Treno Gottardo" by SOB that runs from Basel/Luzern or Zurich to Locarno. Every hour, all year round (one train departs from Basel and the next one from Zurich). It also has a few more stops than the "Gotthard Express" so if you want to do some hiking in the mountain villages of Leventina you can do it more easily.

An excellent video, except that you do not stress important points about the Swiss Travel Pass. If you have an STP it will give you FREE travel on both lines up the Rigi; the Bernina Express bus from Tirano to Lugano; not only the whole of the line from Locarno to Domodossala but also the main line from Domodossola to Brig; the WAB between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. Above Wengen the STP gives only a 25% discount. You rightly stress the joys of the Gornergrat line. STP gives a 50% discount on that line. The Gornergrat, with a near 360% view at the top, is very definitely value for money. The Jugfraujoch is grossly overpriced.

You will need to book a seat reservation well in advance, they can book up a few months before during the high seasons

But, you can purchase a ticket on a “normal” train that runs the same route for cheaper prices and on the same day, no reservation needed. While the windows on regular trains don’t arc over the train car you”ll see that they are quite large.
