You know, I did it your way for the majority of my stringing career. Then, a fellow named Sam who strings for the pros suggested I do it this way. Apart from me just taking his word for it, I do it because the final string before you tie off will lose tension. If you release the clamp first, this tension loss is visible via the physical lateral movement of the string through the clamp. This can cause wear as the string moves across the clamp teeth. Unleashing the base first helps alleviate this.

If they are spring assisted, you have to adjust them internally. Turn them so that they are perpendicular to the track. Remove the brad from the base at the end opposite the clamp. Take a hex wrench and place it in the hole. Turn the wrench until the base lock closes at about halfway across the base.

YULitle, First of all, thanks for all your movies. It helped me a lot when I starting stringing rackets. Anyway, what is was wondering: at 1:44 you say when you are ready to move, release the base first then unlock the clamp. Now what is the benefit of doing it in this order? Thanks in advance

After tensioning, I always release the clamp first, and then the base. You do it the other way around. Is this important, or doesn't it really matter?

they need to be tight enough to hold the string but not so tight that it crushes the string. Adjusting it just right takes practice.

When it crushes the string. Softer strings may have a ghost-like appearance, but thats acceptable. Just don't crush the string.
