Hii. I really like your channel and the way you teach. But please I have a question. What is the difference between structure, style and form of poem. And structure of peom and structure of stanza are they similar. I hope you could answer my two questions
@SWLF
@SWLF 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for dropping us a comment! As to your questions, form and structure are often used fairly interchangeably, but style means something a bit different. In very general terms, style is typically associated with a given poet or poetic movement (e.g. a Romantic style or a Modernist style) and gestures towards the features of the poem that exist beyond broad structural categories like genre. Thus, Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a Romantic ballad--it has the generic features of a ballad but is stylized in a Romantic way. As to question #2, most critics use the term "stanza" when a poem contains multiple stanzas. This term works well in a poem like a villanelle or a ballad but doesn't work as well in poems that do not include this kind of macro-repetition. Hope that helps!

So I see all of these basic stanzas, but I still have a question. Is it advisable to come up with your own, more unique stanzas that don't apply to these given in this video? That way you can write a poem that is very unique and stands out in its rhythm and flow?
@SWLF
@SWLF 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, Strange Danger! All poets confront this question when they write, and you'll have to answer it yourself. We can say that using a traditional stanzaic form would place your work within a broad tradition and encourage people to read it against that tradition. If that tradition is what you value or what will be useful, given the subject matter, it makes sense to adopt a traditional form. If you want to call attention to the novelty of your form or if the subject of the poem lends itself to this kind of experimentation, you might consider developing a non-standard stanzaic form. Poetry always balances between considerations for tradition and novelty--both are important in different ways.

@SWLF
@SWLF 3 жыл бұрын
We think you are referring to the rhyme scheme of a given stanza. In the first case (aab), the first and second lines rhymes but the last line does not. In the second case, which two of the four lines rhyme? Prof. Olson discusses rhyme scheme (briefly) in her "What is a Sonnet?" video, which you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h57VfKCCZZt9b8k
