SwMotech Crash Bars and axle Sliders for the KTM Super Duke GT

Crash protection very import thing to have on all bikes, although it can be expensive it would save you a lot in the long run, if you were to drop or come off your bike.
Do bare in mind, crash protection is damage limitation and not complete protection.

As you say, these are kind of essential on a bike like you have. There’s a lot to get damaged in the event of a moving accident but the guards are also very useful if the bike gets away from you whilst moving it around/ pushing, happens with heavy bikes like yours and the GS adventure. Looking forward to seeing the sump guard fitted. It’ll look great in orange.cheers Shaun👍🏻

It looks great Shaun, like I say, it just depends on 'the look' you are after, you are using the orange as a 'highlight' to add a splash of colour against the black, and +StreetFlat Twin is doing the opposite almost.

Are you sure those crash bars go far out enough? It doesn’t look like it. Also, what about the rear/tail section (or side cases)? Nothing is protecting that? Usually a bike needs 3 points of contact to fully protect the bike, which is usually front axle, rear sub cage, and handlebars. Can you lay the bike on the ground to see which points the bike touch?

Once u remove the crash bars is there any scratches on the original frame from where the new ones sat?

I've not removed mine so couldn't say, but they come with a part that wraps around the frame for protection, so I wouldn't have thought there will be any damage

Hey buddy. Great video. I just purchased these for my 2018 superduke r. I have a few questions. Would you be able to tell me the exact tools you used to install these crash bars? Also, I see in the instructions they are instructed to torque spec some of the bolts. Is that mandatory or is it just a formality. Thank you in advance!

Hey! You need a H8 and T30. Better to torque the bolts as stated because two of them are engine bolts, don't want those coming out!

Are the crash bars wide enough?? It seems the side fairings will hit the ground before the crash bar. Can you demonstrate by gently laying your bike to the ground?

Yeah it seems that way, they definitely don't stick out further than the fairing, equal I'd say. Im sure they've been heavily tested by Swmotech. Wow! Never been asked to out my bike on the floor😱😱 but not a bad idea to be honest lol

Does the engine case come with pre-tapped holes to anchor this to at the bottom? I see you remove and replace the engine bolts with a longer pair from SW-Motech, but what about the other anchor points? My guess is they were empty pre-tapped holes in the engine case? Mine was installed by previous owner and am thinking about removing to make accessing the engine easier for some work I'm doing. I have original engine bolts to put in, but not sure if I need to put something in the bores at the bottom where the bars mount.

Yes the bolt on the bottom mounts to the engine case (pre-tapped)

Yeah think the bottom bolt just stays empty, the only one you need to replace is one on the frame, the third one wraps around the frame if I remember. Welcome on board!

I installed the same crash bars on my Super Duke GT and I noticed that more noticeable vibrations are transferred to the foot pegs and handlebar from the engine after the install. Did you notice any changes on yours?

I know the XR vibes never bothered you but what are the vibes like on the KTM is there any at all...? It’s my next bike but in Ireland they won’t let you test ride 😥😥😥

Vtwins have vibs but it's not a high frequency vib like the XR, but it's only there when you're in rd wrong gear for your speed. You can't chill at 50kph in 6th gear, more like 3rd on a twin.

What is the liquid you put in the bolt before?

It's thread locker, stops the bolts from working loose over time. It's also recommend from Swmotech that you use it.

There always is one that hits thumbs down isnt there !!!!!! Amazing piece of kit, like the black colour choice as well. It looks well in place on the bike. Should be good for the KTM Super Adventure S also, which is the one im gona get towards November. Thanks for the post, hope u never need them though.

No tape for the orange tube. No loctite on the engine screw. No dynamometer... but.. This bike looks fantastic.
