The reason i subscribe to this channel is because of all the great information Keith provides his viewers that adds to our knowledge about all things long range shooting. It’s great to learn from people like Keith who generously shares his knowledge accumulated over many years of shooting in F-Class competitions. We greatly appreciate it. Cheers 🍻 🍻

I know nothing about F-class, but your info is really helpful in just learning how to read wind and what to do under pressure.

I liked them apples! The 'looking at the wrong chunk of air' and 'more of the range being effected by the same wind' were great points I'll be taking away to think on more - Thanks!

I am learning to read mirage. Never figured it out before. Thanks to you I am starting to figure out some of what I am seeing. This helps a lot! It answers some of the nagging issues I was having and getting confused when the bullet didn’t follow the mirage I was seeing.

All good information. I'm not shooting any great distances where wind is much of a factor (100yds) I may try 500yds some day thou. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I like my apples for eating not computing. This was a good apple I ate it up.

Thanks for your great work on these videos. Great job, fair handed and thorough. If I understand, you shoot a stock 284 Win, and so, I’ve decided to build one using 184 Bergers, which I also believe you use. Can you share your COAL, for your current load? I’m having some dissonance trying to figure this long bullet out. Again, much appreciated.

Those’s apples were honey crisp!! Sweet and savory! Thanks for sharing info that maybe others might hold sacred. Could you elaborate on at what yardage to focus the spotting scope in different conditions as well. Thank you Keith and keep’em straight at SWN

I saved 9s in past when I hear some good shooters saying Sh*t or F*** and then wait for a min to confirm wind and other shooters’ targets.

Hey Keith, when watching other targets for clues, do you watch targets of specific competitors?

No, not unless I know a competitor that just chases the spotter.

Can I ask how you personally practiced reading mirage, or suggestions you have on practicing reading mirage? I do have access to a range with a 325yd berm and 500yd targets with a slight gully that's about 25-35ft deep the full distance between the shooting position and the targets. Any suggestions on things I can set up and use to practice reading the wind? I have a small cheap wind meter not a Kestrel.

You will learn best from experience. With those ranges, you will need a rifle with poor ballistics to maximize your learning. Start with just visualizing the mirage. Once you see the flow of the air, hold center and see how far it drifts your shot. Wait until the flow of mirage changes and fire another. Over time, you will start to recognize what an amount of mirage is worth. Remember, mirage is a direct indication of the crosswind component, so no calculation is needed. If you see 1 MOA worth of mirage when looking at your target, that is your correction. You can backward calculate your exact wind speeds from the drift as you learn.

@@winninginthewind Thanks for taking the time to reply and give me some advice I really appreciate it and the knowledge you are spreading with your videos. I shoot mostly .223 so I think that qualifies as "poor ballistics" if not I can always dust off my 22WMR. Keep up the good work!

Even on electric targets I will switch to someone else's target to see if it's me or the wind that I'm not seeing.

Some poor advice. You are assuming the guys around you don't know wtf they are doing. Some of those guys may actually know how to read the wind, so you can't go by what they are doing. Just a little helpful advice for you.
