The sound effect you were talking about is called the Wilhelm Scream.
@jcastromex

In answer to two of your questions: 1) The bullwhip - the standard length carried in the movies is the No. 455 10 ft. Bull Whip. The best length for a bullwhip is 8 feet. Bullwhips are measured from the beginning of the handle to the end of the thong. 2) That famous scream is known as "The Wilhelm Scream". According to Wikipedia, the Wilhelm scream is a stock sound effect that has been used in a number of films and TV series, beginning in 1951 with the film "Distant Drums". The scream is usually used when someone is shot, falls from a great height, or is thrown from an explosion. The sound is named after Private Wilhelm, a character in "The Charge at Feather River", a 1953 Western in which the character gets shot in the thigh with an arrow. The famous scream can be heard in over 500+ movies. 📽

What Indiana Jones is wearing is a brown fedora. Men in the '30s to '60s would wear them. I paid like 150 for a custom-made brown fedora, but I don't look as good as Harrison Ford in one. I also paid 250 for Wested of London to make me a leather jacket just like the one from Raiders. Wested is the company that made the Indian Jones jackets.

His hat in this movie is specifically a Herbert Johnson Hatters (est. 1889) Poet style. One of those will set you back around $600, but it’ll be as authentic as it gets.

@@0okamino Back in the late '90s/early 2000s, the web site that dealt with all sorts of Indy stuff did not have this information. They had glasses, they had army bags, pants and shirts, but they didn't have the exact hat makers, not that I can recall.

In the Pentateuch, YHVH gave the Israelites instructions to build the Ark so that he may dwell amongst them. There was a mercy seat atop the Ark. This is what they carried in the desert journey from Egypt to the promised land. YHVH had told Moses that, “you cannot look at my face and live.” That would be why Indy knew not to look when the phantasms zapped the Nazis during the climax.

"How long is that whip?" It's Hollywood magic - there's several different lengths that they use depending on the shot. There's shorter ones (6-8 ft) for the choregraphed fights and longer ones (10-12ft) for doing his Batman/Tarzan swinging around.

As a long time Spielberg and Harrison Ford fan, this is one of my favorite movies. To me it will always be just Raiders of the Lost Ark. The "Indiana Jones and the" was added after the sequels were released. The Wilhelm Scream has already been mentioned in several comments. The seaplane at the beginning of the film had the call letters OB-CPO, and images of R2-D2 and C-3PO appear among the hieroglyphs on one of the walls in the Well of Souls. Spielberg originally included the coat hanger gag in his movie 1941, but it got cut after it didn't receive any laughs in advance screenings. Spielberg vowed to include it in all his movies until it worked. The scene where Indy shoots the swordsman was originally written as a long fight scene but Ford, as well as most of the rest of the cast and crew had contracted dysentery, and he couldn't stand for more than 15 minutes. They tried to shoot the scene as planned, but couldn't make it work, so the change was made and an iconic scene was born. In my opinion, the second movie, Temple of Doom, was the worst of the series so far, though some do like it. The Last Crusade is at least as good as this one, plus it costars Sean Connery. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull gets a lot of hate from the fans but I don't think it's that bad, even though it does costar Shia LaBeouf.

Matte usage was actually blue-screen in those days, rather than the green-screen that would become more commonplace later. The process worked in much the same way, only with blue being made to disappear instead of green, and unfortunately back then they could not remove the black matte-lines that often surrounded the affected people/objects the way they could now.

To answer your question, yes, the tarantulas were real. Alfred Molina (who, BTW, later went on to play Doc Ock in the Spider-Man movies) said in an interview that, at first, the spiders weren't moving and Spielberg wasn't happy because they looked fake. The spider wrangler explained that it was because they were all males. Once he added a female, they all started to scurry around. ;)

"Raiders of the Lost Ark": An homage to cliffhanger films of the 1930's, with enough stunts for THREE Action movies, second choice lead Harrison Ford got to create another iconic movie character, "Two-Fisted" Marion Ravenwood was Indy's equal, and persuaded a generation of college students to "dig in the dirt" as now-Cool Archeologists. It is appalling that LucasFilm and Disney have reduced another Blue Chip movie franchise to Junk Bond status.:(

I agree. She even is confused whether it was a Disney movie. This wasn't the first and not the last movie that large studios bought the IP to wring ever dollar out of it. Ironically Lucas was the one who popularize this strategy with Star Wars. Which he also sold to Disney. Moral of the story enjoy your classics and if you don't want to be upset don't watch the sequels and commercialization of your favorite movie. It's going to happen whether you like it or not. 80% of movies today are franchises. Very little independent original movies today.

If you like Harrison Ford, you must see Six Days Seven Nights from 1998. His character is sort of a mix of Han Solo and Indiana mixed up. He does play a pilot. 👍🏼 But you’ve never seen him soooo, laid back? I guess that would be the word. He stars along side the late Anne Heche, she was great in this. And since you’ve already seen The Crystal Skull I don’t feel bad mentioning this. When he’s in with the FBI agents, they leave you with the impression he actually did do missions for them. He and his traitor friend even mentions, during the jungle chase, that they were double agents once.

@@DV80s Yes l would totally agree with you. I also saw the new one Dial of Destiny earlier and, well as a movie in its entirety just like Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls it doesn't hold up compared to that original 3 and alas can see why this latest has had its negative reviews. I mean it is a step up from Crystal Skulls and this new one did have its parts/ sequences where it did seem to get near to that special old era Indiana movies captivating quality - but it also had its amount of losing me and feeling underwhelmed. All l ultimately know though is that Ford as per usual gave it his best and that near to end scene was quite special. I actually feel bit emotional cause after leaving guess was that realisation hit me from hearing that, its 1 of greatest of all time movie signature theme tunes - this was it Fords final time appearing as that character with its famous theme following after on the end credits. I could go on and on but ultimately far as this movie franchise character is concerned just think is wise this was the last, Hollywood needs to get it now that no matter who directs it - recapturing that original 3 era level of excellence having tried 2 times now is not achievable and lets just be content for that original 3 Indy films that are universally enjoyed and to this day are their own masterpieces.

it looks to me that you have fallen into the indiana jones blockbuster trap. you have fallen into the trap of not understanding the film as it goes along, I wish I could warn you that this is a film you have to watch AT least Three times before you understand it. This is how George Lucas and Steven Spielberg made their fortunes.Back in the eighties, you have to be VERY QUICK MENTALLY to understand these films. otherwise, if you didn't understand the movies or you forgot things during the course of the film you had to see it again. and you had to wait at least a year before the Videocassette came out to watch and rewatch the scenes again and again. word of advice pay attention during the exposition scenes and pay attention to the plot and above all remember and Pay attention with these films. this is a film that is fun Like a rollercoaster but if you're not strapped in tight you're gonna fall out the main point I'm making here is Pay attention during these movies and rmember those three words are important in lots of action films and one other thing do NOT think there is logic in these films you have to be on your toes mentally with these films otherwise you're gonna be lost. Nowadays you can stop a movie and watch it again, in the movie theatre you don't have that luxury (or in real life either for that fact)

A movie and character that was made up as a joke!..., And a film that wasnt going to be made! on a vacation of Spielberg and Lucas, in Hawaii, between star wars 1 and 2. And Spielberg had just finished ET. Just them thinking about old movie shorts-, like commercials between movies-. And those two saying to each other, where is that guy anymore? The hero that defeats the bad guy, fights evil, gets out of impossible situations, and gets the girl? And Spielberg saying to Lucas ," Well, i kinda been thinking about this chatacter, and been kinda writing him out...." And waa-laah! Indiana Jones is born!And yes, Hitler was an occultist religious nut/freak! I love watching ur reactions, on older movies, cuz ur like an innocent little girl, watching a movie or character, and seeing things in a movie, u never seen or even thought of or heard of, before! And u get so excited, or surprised, or happy or shocked! Pro tips, the shooting the sword guy scene, he did cuz he was very sick! The best line in the movie he add-libbed..."its not the years honey its the mileage." The king Cobra was real!!...filmed behind a piece of glass! The stunt scene of the guy sliding under the truck, will never be duplicated-considered far too dangerous! Supposedly the Ark is either still secretly hidden under where Jesus was crucified, or Solomon's wife took it back to Ethiopia, and hid it. And that every member of the British royal family since about 1100, has seen it!😮😮😮😮 According to the Bible, noone could touch it directly or look into it, without instant death. Unless u were ritually sanctified, and a descendant of Aaron, Moses brother! So if u ever meet a Jewish person with a name like Cohen cone conen kohn, like that, u are talking to a son of Aaron😮😮😮😮 this to me was more the movie, African Queen! Yes, they "did it" in this movie, their child pops up in 4! Part 2 is quite dark but it has Short Round! 3 is best. 4 is ok. Harrison is the only person who has done 3 iconic movie characters at the same time. Indy, Han and Deckerd from Bladerunner!Mariam was in a great John carpenter movie, Starman!!! To me, this had a lot of African Queen, vibes!

You caught on quickly that Jones is a disgrace as an archeologist. He's a grave robber, a thief or goods and culture, pure and simple. Lifted a gold idol but learned nothing of the people who made it. And if you think about it, his presence in this adventure is entirely inconsequential. If he had not been there, the Nazis would have gotten the headpiece (Marion would have made some good money from it or been tortured to give it up), they would therefore have found the Ark. They would have taken it to the island. They would have all been killed. All Jones did was kill some Germans. A couple of interesting people on board. Karen Allen playing Marion who got her start in Animal House. Gimli the dwarf from LOTR, John Rhys-Davies who played Salah the digger.
@DV80s
@DV80s Жыл бұрын
You are incorrect. This is the general method of archeology back then in general. Look up the guy who found Troy and what he did with supposed jewelry he and his wife found in that site. So, if anything, Lucas/Spielberg are being true to the period.
