Jacky Chan is on record explaining he does usually not cut into the fights. He just puts the camera there, wide-angle, and then he and his pals show their skills. The only case where he cuts is to emphasise hits: wide angle, the hit lands; cut, close angle; the hit land again (very short series of frame); back to wide angle again.

He is not fighting any random knight! He is fighting the mountain! The most terrifying warrior and gigantic person there is, and that is his older brother in which he knows what the mountain is fully capable of and has fought him before in season 1 episode 3 or 4

I hate how people in heavy armor always die in 1 blow in this series and frankly every other tv series - they show blades cutting into plate armor like it was made of paper when in reality 99% of the time the blade would deflect off harmlessly on plate armor. They need to show the blade finding a weak joint, but they always just make it cut into the goddamn chest plate.. drives me nuts, its basically close to impossible. Or, give your characters maces / hammers because those would still kill a man in plate armor.

Ok, you are the first to actually acknowledge the good and the bad during a fight scene, and actually praise it, while pointing out what's wrong or what didn't work. Also, i'm only 5:34 minutes in, but the reason they [the kingsguard] didn't hold up against the Hound is because of something some character who's name I don't remember said a while back. Talking about how the Hound could cut through 5 kingsguard like carving a cake. but great video! huge fan of Sword's Path! Any chance you could do something about Miyamoto Musashi's sword techniques later?

How to do a sword fight, Game of Thrones style: 1. Zoom in extremely close on the characters so you can't actually see what they are doing. 2. Have them swing the sword around a bit. 3. Put other characters between the camera and the actor so you can't see what he's doing. 4. Jump cuts. Lots and lots of jump cuts. 5. Add metal clanging sounds 6. Get a wide shot to show dead bodies surrounding character.

From what I was able to tell, the Kingsguard/Queensguard mobs were dispatched with slashes to the neck/throat... so is the 2nd or 3rd blow towards the Mountain, before he flew his helmet off. Hits to the neck, under the helmet, seem somewhat plausible to me.

So, the Hound can put a sword through plate armor when stressed enough. It happened in his duel with Berric Dondarrion who was swinging a flaming sword around, causing The Hound to panic swing so hard he cut through Berric's sword and Berric's plate, but was exhausted afterwards. The same thing happens here. The Hound shoves his sword through The Mountain's nearly impossible plate armor and is exhausted afterwards.

It would have been fine if they had actually showed the cuts hitting vital areas in the gaps between the armor. But they didnt and instead it looks nonsensical. They could have even had the same fight with the same choreografy if only the hound had used a valyrian steel sword.

Yeah... I agree with Alan. Staircase? Rly? How was that suppose to work? Hound vs Brienne of Tarth was much, much better. Overall in 8 seasons and 9 years of running we did not get a lot of good swordplay.

Remember the fight between them from the first season? Remember the fight about some chickens? I doubt Rory McCann does not know how to fight... More like that the stunt coordinator did not tell him what he was meant to do, disarming the moutain and that apart from that he is likely not used to fight in situations like this (uphill on a stair I can imagine would be much more difficult, even with enough space to swing a sword).

3:40 yeah, my biggest issue with this fight is that they clearly didnt have enough time to choreograph this fight but that isnt strictly a big problem if they just held some of the better shots longer to let the impact hit...but no, they tried to edit the hell out of it and use every single shot annoyingly

I mean the Kingsguard that Cersei has left at this point are probably really not that great. We don‘t learn a lot about them in the series, but in the book it‘s very clear that most of the decent guys the Lannisters inherited from Robert are pretty much gone. And it should be noted that Barristan Selmy thought even they were shit, presumably with the exception of Jaime who wasn‘t present when he remarked he could „cut through them like cake“, even though he was already an old man and far from his prime. But most of those Kingsguards die in the course of the series: Barristan and Jaime are out Mandon Moore, whom Jaime considered to be the most dangerous of the Bunch is killed at the Blackwater Trant is dead in the series Preston Greenfield is killed by a mob Arys Oakheart is sent to Dorne and subsequently dies Boros Blount is possibly alive but probably ill A lot of the replacements brought in are less than stellar, while Sandor obviously bails. So by the end of the series, Cersei would be left with people like the Kettleblacks, who are probably shit. She only promoted them for loyalty although they are probably spies for Baelish. So yeah. The available cadre are clearly not great and it would make sense that Cersei is left with bad fighters in the end, especially given that whom she can even trust is definitely an issue for her. So yeah, it makes sense that it‘s gonna be Gregor and a bunch of useless statists who Sandor dispatches immediately before taking on his brother.

Since they cut every scene 5 times i think it means the actor isnt capable of learning how to swing a fucking sword properly. Or didnt have time to properly train for this choreography. But to be honest, after 9 years of filming this show, all actors should have been experts by now. This outcome is embarassing. Perhaps they had a more complicated choreography in mind but those actors couldnt do shit, so they made it way more simple and plain stupid. The Hound slashing plate armor like tin, they are trying to show you how strong he is. Both Gregor and Sandor Clegain are not only one of the best fighters in Westeros, but also one of the strongest.

I've had some huge delay due to hospitalization and trouble at the heat-treating company (one of my batches got botched, couldn't get them to redo it), but I keep making swords as fast as I can - without sacrificing quality. I will deliver. To each and every one customer. The reason for down payment is, I simply had people pay 1/3rd or half, get the sword then vanish. :(
