Our adventuring group has fought through tomb and temple alike to finally find the primordial ring: Typhoon. While it grants great magical power, it also can manifest an oceanic sword of the depths. Armed with such weaponry, nothing can stand against our party... right?
Today Cl3ver makes a DIY wooden sword. Watch along and perhaps you can wield this power as well.

Awesome job on the sword version of a leiomano ( Hawaiian shark tooth sword), I appreciate that you took the time to sort the teeth by size, jaw side, lash them individually and use a whipping knot style wrap for the handle wrap. Fun fact: jute was one of the types of cord that was used in making rope rigging lines for old school sailing ships. After making the rope, sailors would coat it in tar oil to prevent it from rotting when it got wet ( turning it into a style of rope known as marline/ marlin). This is why we have marline spikes ( splicing tools used even today on modern naval vessels) and why sailors of old used to be called " old tars". For more info on these topics, look up Mikko Snellman on youtube.

I think the ring build would be pretty sweet. You can always use your 3d printer for jewelry, so don't forget about that. There's even 3D printable wax specifically made for it, and it'll work on your machine ;P

Take a look at the Lei o Mano or pololu. An ancient hawaiian shark tooth weapon. These are weapons of war, and yours is very reminiscent of that. Great job! The bindings for the teeth are spot on!

There's a jeweler's tool called a "bead reamer," it's basically a super tiny file/pick for poking through and widening holes in beads. Some bead material, like certain plastics and natural materials like bone can kinda close up after the initial hole is drilled, and the reamer helps open that hole back up so the thread or wire can pass through it. Likely not as fast as using a dremel bit but also much more precise and you don't have to worry about a sudden spasm in your wrist causing you to jam your bit into the hole and tear the whole thing apart.

This sword is so badass, the detail is incredible and i love the shark teeth in it. Can't wait to see the other five weapons, i may have plans for some of my own in the future to combat these mystic arms myself.

I've done this on everything from knife handles to longbow handles. It works really well. The wax makes a huge difference. If the cord's still a little too fuzzy for you once you get the handle wrapped the easiest way to fix that is to run over it with a lighter. Just a regular bic style butane lighter is fine. It'll burn off all of the fuzzy parts without getting hot enough to burn into the actual cord. I also did this on a cheap fiberglass kid's bow handle to give it a more primitive look than the original molded plastic handle, but I soaked the cord in titebond glue to make it permanent and waterproof. It looks great from a distance, gets that pseudo-medieval look I was going for, and will last forever even if kids leave it out in the yard (like kids do) and forget about it for a while.

Dude beautiful prop with a great background. I might just have to create my own version for one of my games. Cthulu inspired in my case. FYI you can get a mini sandblaster at harbor freight for like $20 and load it with 600-800 grit sand and sand contoured shapes like your sword in just a few minutes. You can also load walnut shell and blast metals to get a great shine while cleaning off the rust.

This looks cool as hell!!! You got all the waves so smooth and flowy, just *chef kiss*! To amp it up just another level, I wonder if you could use your UV Resin and/or your UV paint to just add that glow of the ocean onto your carved waves! Like the sword has the waves of the ocean forever trapped within it's blade, a tsunami of power forged into wood and bone to be unleashed upon unsuspecting foes!!
@SkillTree
@SkillTree 3 жыл бұрын
🤩 LOVE that idea! I like how your mind works!
@RunningWolf13
@RunningWolf13 3 жыл бұрын
@@SkillTree Woot Woot! I'm glad you like my idea! (And I quite like the working of my mind when it comes to crafting projects and getting those fine details!) If you want, you could bring the UV Resin/UV paint down onto the shark teeth, like in between each each tooth, dab a little of the resin/paint and then drip it down either the middle or the edges of the tooth, to give them a sort of dripping/drooling effect, like the water trapped in the sword is slowly escaping out through the teeth, like the shark you harvested them from is still swimming in the oceans of the shadows realm, drooling as it imagines the next taste of flesh and blood your sword will draw from your foes. Your sword's slashes, stabs, and strikes reminding the shark of the violent thrashing and quick attacks of its past hunts, as it dealt the death blow to it's prey.

You can use lignin removal combined with superheated steam and a shop press, or a form with a bunch of clamps and weights to compress any wood into a much harder form that will keep an edge, gets through a metal detector and has comparable performance to metal, while being impervious to rust. Compressed oak can have a Rockwell hardness of 58+, but starting with an even harder wood like ironwood or ebony or bloodwood can achieve hardness over 100, even over 180. This technology can be used to make extremely light and durable nonmetallic parts for everything from vehicles, weapons and armor, firearms, strongboxes, pretty much anything you can imagine. There's a really good video on the subject over on Skallagrim's channel, if you haven't seen it.

You can make an actual cutting edge on the end out of nothing but the wood itself that's is just as sharp as any other sword, just wood doesn't keep an edge for very long. Only the hardest of hardwoods were used to make.... edged weapons. It's a thing, some cultures used wood to make cutting and chopping weapons.
