btw, the point about broadswords and katanas is bs, the katana is heavier because of the balance from the curve. Also, broadswords were never meant to cleave through armor, technique for mail was thrusting and for plate armor you would do a half-sword technique or a morschlagg.

Plus like you said before Jin seems to lose his composure when taking damage, while Nanashi thrives on pain. If anything pain makes him stronger and more alive. I agree with the verdict, Nanashi would win. He's such a beast of a character, and Luo-Lang , both their characters were done really well.

Nanashi is literally my favorite anime character, and Sword of the Stranger is my favorite anime. Very well done, I wasn't sure if you would include that his balance in his fight with Lou-lung was circumstantial because of his fatigue, but you did, and I'm very happy. Great vid man.

Maces and clubs were used for smashing armor. But Longswords (3.5 lb average) are heavier than Katanas (2.5 lb average), notably the war swords (which could weight over 5 lb).

At first, I thought Jin was gonna win with his discipline. But then, after looking at Nanashi's creativity, I saw who the victor would be. This fight is easily comparable with the final fight between Anakin Skywalker and Darth Tyranus about the _Invisible Hand_; same weapons, but different physiques and techniques. Get what I mean? ;)

I agree that nanashi would win because jin's less dynamic stagnant sword style though masterful can be subverted by his material skill which (according to your analysis) should occur more often than not. aswell, this material skill could potentially be augmented by his own blade work which was out of the box like mugen just less dexterous

I wouldn't say Rarou was the better swordsman at all. Nanashi ran for kilometers only to have a building fall on him, then proceed to kill 2 highly skilled warriors with ease, climb a giant tower to then kill 2 more fighters in a 2 vs 1 fight and in that fight fall about 20 meters and get half blinded, and after that he at the very least tied a swordsman so great that he had never been injured before Nanashi let alone be killed. Nanashi in a better condition would probably have taken the fight instead of a tie that he survived only due to luck.

So what lightsaber styles do you think Jin and Nanashi would use? I definitely think Makashi for Jin, though he'd need more training or practical experience to overcome the whole slave to form thing, and maybe Shien for Jin too. He seems to be a very technical fighter. I'm not sure I can pinpoint any of the other styles very easily for him. Nanashi seems kind of eclectic though, I think Ataru is definitely in there somewhere and possibly elements from Shii-Cho, Soresu, and Niman as well but I'm not sure. He's just very clever in the way he fights using a lot of unarmed martial arts, improvised weapons, unpredictable attacks, and the environment to his advantage. He's not exactly a massively dominating or aggressive fighter but he contends well with anyone it seems. I don't know, Nanashi's fighting style reminds me a bit of Obi-Wan's in some ways.

I'd think Nanashi would use Form 6 because Form 6 requires adaptability out of it's user, and Antoine showed that Nanashi is capable of adapting well.

haven't seen the anime, so I don't know about Jin, but I think that Nanashe would use some combination of shein and suresu based around the principles of Niman.

For Jin, he would definitely be a Form 5 user. He might have other styles as a supplement, but he was a Kendo specialist, and his opening form against Inuyaka, was very much Djem So. For Nanashi, I agree with +Furious Sherman. His adaptability was a major part of his style, but he probably had some Djem So foundations as well, being a former Samurai.

I know this video came out 2 years ago but I just have to make a slight annotation about the Katana. Katana’s were not only heavier than most medieval swords, they also suffered from lacking any real guard. As for slashing power, yes their pretty good but generally speaking, a curve adds little to nothing for cutting and the katana’s thrust is on par with a longsword, so long as you account for the slight off center point, aside from that, phenomenal video.

I'm a little disappointed Antoine. The cliche of quick katanas and clunky longswords is absolutely untrue. Historically most swords weighed between two and three pounds at most, and there is no text whatsoever that claims a longsword was for smashing armor. I've had the fortune of getting hands on both, and the only real difference is a katana is more specialized to slashing while longswords were general purpose levers. That being said, the katana is still an excellent weapon that did it's job well, and the overall quality of the video meets the awesomeness I come to expect from Antoine Bandele.

This is an amazing breakdown, with fluid editing and excellent breakdowns. How ever, I do question why jin’s Unarmed combat skill wasn’t mentioned. While he rarely if ever included these skills in his swordplay, anytime Jin is unarmed he dominated the thugs he fought. It’s not a criticism, just a question, as while I admit it’s HIGHLY unlikely that jin would be disarmed by nanashi, your videos usually take into account the unlikeliest outcomes to dismiss them.

Just two things in regards to western swords. First neither they long sword, or hand and a half are very heavy. Only 2 to 7 pounds tops. A heavy sword would not lend itself well to in combat for many reasons. Second I wasn't sure what you meant by bashing threw armor. If you mean you can tend steel plate then yes, but without half- sword techniques with grappling. A long sword cant cut threw armor. In real life of course XD Sorry don't mean to be a harsh critic. I'm just very much into HEMA. love your videos by the by. :)

Nanashi is a 10/10 samurai warrior, i would compare his battle earned experience and superb swordmanship with legends like Miyamoto Musashi and Yagyu Jubei. Not taking anything away from my boy Jin, he is on a class of his own. However you are bound to one day step out of the familiarity of the dojo and venture into many different types of swordsmen who have probably surpassed your current limits. I actually hold Nanashi in a lower tier. I think Luo-Lang is solidly above him as a swordsman in their own movie.

Antoine Bandele Luo Lang was technically superior in swordskill plus his sense of analysing surroundings was impecable. However as talented as he was Luo Lang never seemed to have encountered much competition during his early training to the top. He is definitely a westerner brought up in chinese culture and martial arts. He must have had to work harder than his peers to have such flawless command of body and weapon (same for Nanashi) Going back to my point of him never having a rival growing up so he could surpass unknown limits is a waste of untapped potential. It's easy to tell him apart from Nanashi because Luo Lang never had a single battle scar or extreme close calls (Nanashi had plenty)

Antoine European swords were just a tad heavier than japenese ones and they were certainly not made to "smash through armor" besides great sword swords used against armor where typically light and dextres to get around the armor and hit the gaps in armor if not other weapons such as pole arms were used and the katana while a great slasher yes is not "often touted as the best cutter ever mad" or atleast i have never heard such a statement I have never considered you as one to say random inflammatory incorrect dribble and I leave the comment because I am only intermediatly interested in historical weaponry and I know this Though man the rest of the video was great man I loved it

I kind of disagree. Mostly with Shii-Cho. Jin was not very raw, which is a staple of Form 1. I see him more as a Shien master, with a slight supplement in Ataru. For Nanashi, I believe he used Niman as the core of his technique, especially in terms of adaptability, with supplements in Soresu and Ataru, with slight training in Form 5, due to his Samurai background.
