Ironically it was during this era that the sword became less important as a fighting weapon but a symbol of status. Ashigarus armed with spears were the bulk of armies and matchlocks guns were used extensively.
@MadassAlex Жыл бұрын
@@stunseed8385 Not quite true. Swords have always suffered the penalty of being short in distance, typically relegating them to secondary weapons for closer fighting, or fighting in complex terrain where close formation is less practical. The popularity of spears has a lot to do with scale. They're good individual weapons, but especially strong when your point can defend the fighter in the rank before you. But this is still less relevant as you add defensive characteristics to fighters, especially armour. The same elites who can afford this armour can also afford training in grappling to best use the shorter distance of swordplay, making sword a very effective weapon against an opponent in reach; you can bind their weapon with yours and use that cover to enter for closer, more reliable attacks. This also has a relationship with the sword drawing techniques in Japanese tradition -- one can transition from spear or projectile directly to close fighting very rapidly. The point bring there's a bit more detail to it. Sometimes the implication becomes that swords were retained for status expression, but they were absolutely practical for their intended role.

Fell in love with the theme when I heard it years ago and been looking for the movie with no avail. Until I download bilibili recently and it recommended it. Thank god I download bilibili! The Sword Stranger is definitely one of the best movie I've ever seen. Although the story is simple and predictable, the execution is really really good. All the fightings are very good and I love the interaction between Nanase, Kotarou, and Tobimaru. The music scores match every scenes perfectly. Although the ending has a hint that Nanase might not make it to the next town since there is blood traces in the snow, I'd like to think they make it! And the 3 of them travel together to wherever they want to go and have happy and peaceful life. They deserve it! Definitely gonna watch it again sometime. 😊

I came here after watching this magnum opas of an animated feature for the 13th time and i am still emotionally invested everytime i watch it. Even though i know the plot inside out the goosebumps i get immerse me as if it's the 1st time i engaged with thiis movie. That final fight scene between the Russian Chinese conscript and No name has to be one the most striking animated cinema feats of this generation. The climax was so beautifully done that the subtle hint at the movie title was almost missed as in the end they both held the sword of a stranger. I believe Luo Lang to be a Russian decent nationalised Chinese probably with a similar upbriging and backstory to No Name. The 2 of them sharing a reflection of what was past while engaging in the final stand off. They both highlight each others contrasting motives and characteristics where Luo relishes in getting a warriors death living every breath like a timber wolf with ferocity. Then No Name trying to abstain from breaking the promise band he made after slaughtering the heirs of a fallen clan, kindness ultimately saved him in the end as he let himself forgive. Man I love this movie. I really hope in my mind that No Name lived but here's me the eternal optimist. Shout out to Tobimaru as the most valued character arc of the whole film. Whoever reads my note on this movie I will leave you with this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHXSmKyYZsekn6M

Every time this plays it always reminds me all that Nanashi went through. Killed his beloved Ward for meaning less gain. How everyday of his life He regrets not being able to do the right thing. That people only used Him. He was always treated like a stranger no matter how heavy the price he paid. And then one day He stumbles upon this Child and a Dog much like him a Stranger.
