@@radamanthys1212 I played this game for a total of, maybe, 4 hours when I was a kid because we rented it from the local video store but, because the only RPG I had any experience with at the time was Zelda I gave up on this quickly but somehow the music and a few things about this town stuck with me. I suddenly remembered it again in 2019 and spent 4 hours going through a database of games from the time trying to figure out what it was. I finally found this, and was sooooo happy! Now I just appreciate it as a great soundtrack in general, but especially for the time.

«[player name], at last you are here! I have much to tell you… i am not your real father. You are the son of Erik of Excalabria…Killed by Tsarkon of Cartahena. As his castle burned… King Erik bade me… take you and raise you as my son. I hid the Ring of Wisdom in a cave near the village… Only this ring, your sole inheritance… can save the world. The armies of Cartahena are… moving to conquer… It is your destiny to rescue the world from Cartahena. I have saved some money for this moment. Arm yourself… your road is dangerous. Perhaps the most nostalgic and influential VGM in my entire gaming life. Rivaled only by maybe the battle victory music of FF7, the Intro/Last Boss music of Chrono Trigger, or the Moon Level in Duck Tales. Still get chills even at 34 years old. Still saddened by the loss of Blade. My first true RPG, and still one of the best of my life.
@axeshredder0210 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with you. This was my first RPG as well, and the first one I ever beat....nearly 20 years ago. The music has stuck with me all this time. Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is pretty amazing as well. Good stuff

McDaniel51112 Amen. I have loved this music since the first time I loaded the game up in my Sega Genesis in 1990 or '91. That title screen instrumental was amazing and this tune from the first town was haunting. The other most underappreciated music comes from Ghouls 'n Ghosts, also for the Sega Genesis, imo.

Not surprising to me that this track is strong, seeing as how it was developed by one of the best game developers in gaming, Sega. Even if Sega AM2 was only a division, it still shows how strong they were at developing. I lauded the day Sega finally got out of the console wars and developed games. Always go with your strengths.

The names Sega gave to some of these songs, were what the towns were called in the original Japanese version. スタッツ = Stats = Wyclif エリアス = Elias = Parma グローレン = Groren = Watling クルト = Kurt = Deepdale ユルジス = Jurzis = Stow バリッシュ = Barish = Keltwick イーデン = Eden = Malaga ラフロス = Lough Ross = Barrow クレアラ = Creara = Tadcaster ラジェル = Lagel = Helwig マコーミック = McCormick = Swaffham フョールド = Fyodor = Excalabria ラグラッツ = Lagrats = Hastings アーネスト = Ernest = Cartahena
@popfan95b5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I'd translate some of these a little differently, but katakana spellings are ambiguous enough that it's really more of a matter of personal preference than anything: グローレン = Glowren (or Gloren) クルト = Cluto (but Kurt could also work) ユルジス = Euluzis (or Yulzis) バリッシュ = Balish (or Valish) ラフロス = Laflos クレアラ = Claira ラジェル = Razhel (based off of Raziel, maybe?) マコーミック = Macormick (are there even any towns/cities irl with "Mc" in the name?) ラグラッツ = Raglats (the good ol' "L or R" dilemma) Now that I think about it, a lot of the town names in Japanese seem to be people names, or at least based off of people names, like エリアス, クルト, クレアラ, マコーミック, フョードル and アーネスト.

@popfan95b Maybe not the best choice of words, but it's hard to explain. This was a very dry, unemotional and uninspired game, at least on the surface, but the music just pulls you in and makes you feel like you're really living out this character's journey. I had a lot of fun with this game. It had so much atmosphere that I just forgot I was playing a video game at times. That was because of the music.
