let's face it Shad, the rules are daft - anyone can own and carry a garden implement, eg machete, scythe, axe, hatchet...are they less dangerous than swords? Really? Politicians just like making up silly rules because someone once swung a sword in public and they thought they should 'do something about it', other than send the police to sort it out that is...
@dreamingflurry2729
@dreamingflurry2729 5 жыл бұрын
Not only that, politicians fear the people! Armed people can - in theory at least - resist changes and even force the government out (if ten thousand people approached say the Whitehouse in the US armed, the police would be really powerless unless they want to gun them all down or unless they are diverted by unarmed people blocking the way of the armed people (who could then of course themselves open fire and give police etc. the reason to fire back to protect the unarmed guys)...I mean wasn't there some rancher or something that was supposed to not let his animals graze on a certain part of land he had let them graze on for years and the people actually rose to his call for help and showed up armed so the government backed down? (that was in the US as far as I remember!)). That is why government often loves calls for strickter gun-control etc. :( (sadly: Many really intelligent people have bought into this idea, despite that fact that everybody can in theory make a gun in their garage! (look for the book "Expedient Homemade Firearms: The 9mm Submachinegun" by P.A. Luty - which shows how to make a submachinegun from hardware store parts (!)) ps: Found it - look up Cliven Bundy!

I think Skallagrim said it best in one of his videos on the subject. These rules aren't meant to protect anyone, they just exist to make it look like politicians are doing something to protect the public without actually lifting a finger to fix the actual problems. That way they can justify their own existence as well as all of their overpaid bureaucrats. That reasoning makes sense to me, since why would they want to fix the problems and eliminate the need to keep paying them to fix them?

Technically, I could kill someone just as easily with a baseball bat as a sword, its not like people are wearing body armor. Or... or, there is the fact that cars are far, FAR, more dangerous than any hand weapon could ever be.

Well making official distinction between what weapons can and can't be owned is hard. The rules in place now say that any object with the primary purpose of causing harm to another human being is not allowed. Things like garden implements machete's axes and the like have another primary purpose. Sure they can harm someone but that is not what they are designed for.

Different accents in different states. Shad has a pretty clear Victorian accent, which is quite common. Stereotypical accent you hear is probably a cross between Sydney and regional Australian. I have a mixed Adelaide/Melbourne/Sydney/RP Accent, so it can be hard for people to pin down my state of origin, but it's still pretty clearly Australian. New Zealand accents are also interesting, because it is basically no more different to an Australian accent than a Sydney accent is to a Melbourne accent. (at least until you get them talking about fush an' chups)

Back in the 90's (in the UK) I took part in a C10th reenactment where we'd had to park/camp in a private field across a public road from the showground. Local copper insisted we ship our "offensive" weapons across the road in vehicles or face arrest. Fortunately a senior officer was available to sort it out. But still.

the fact australlia has sword laws is bat shit most the us has is you cant carry em in public without a license.
@michaelw4543
@michaelw4543 5 жыл бұрын
The laws are very old. In all the other states of Australia you can walk into a shop buy a great sword and walk around with it (but... the police and other people may not like it if you walk through mains street with a great sword ready to strike. But legally you can if you have good reason to walk around with a sword in public (though you should still keep it covered when in busy area as it may cause a disturbance). Rule of thumb, don't piss off or scare people around you with weapons for no reason and you will have no trouble in Australia. Pretty much all countries in the world including the US has laws regulating the use of weapons. Victoria is though known in Australia to have the much stricter laws and requiring licences. In Qld its pretty related, I have tons of swords and no need for a licence.

Correct Will N :). But there are still some limitations under the weapons act NSW. This is pretty much knifes and hidden blades. The act itself does not mention the word sword or long bladed weapons anywhere excluding sword canes. But here are the few regulated areas: Weapons Prohibition Act (NSW). S1.3 (p29) & S1.1-7 (p27). This is of course excluding public safety laws and disturbance relevant laws. Sword laws in NSW are pretty non-existent. Laws regarding swords in Queensland however go into pretty far detail about the ownership and use of swords. But still anyone can still walk into a shop a buy one still and practice in parks. Weapons Act 1990 (QLD) S57.1a (p90), S58.5 (p91), S581 (p91) & S2g (186). (only a few examples, apologies for my poor referencing. Its been ages since I referenced acts)

Surprisingly I missed this phase. I have been aware of the wallhanger sword concept for a long time and I like to do my research anywau, so when I wanted to buy a sword I wantes it to be real and functional. So my first sword was Paul Chen / Hanwei Practical Pro Katana and the second one was Lutel "hand-and-half" Long Sword. But I did once buy a "really cool" Rambo style Bowie Knife which I thought was a best thing ever but it was a piece of shit with blade that was very soft steel. But hey, I was a kid back then...

D. Mat.Zero6 LOL Guess I'm an exception. My first sword is a crappy quality 1045 steel katana, but I knew exactly what I was buying. It's perfect for display and practice. With the exception of the blade, all the other parts are great for a functional katana. Even the rayskin is real. Of course, I only started my collection half a year ago. And I did some research before buying. I'm glad I have that cheap thing though. :)

Same in Arizona. You can carry a "knife" of any length as long as you are over 21, don't attempt to bring it into an exempt or prohibited place like a government building or a school (Businesses that ban weapons probably also count here), and don't brandish it. (Course brandishing a weapon is already illegal so that's not a specific knife law)
@Nerobyrne
@Nerobyrne 5 жыл бұрын
+jort93z Yeah that's true, although we could argue about what "carry" means. I suppose the term "mitführen" would be better translated as "transport". Although I think you are allowed to wear it as long as it isn't sharp, ie it's a stage prop, replica or practise sword. Not 100% sure on that though, German legalese confuses me. It's pretty cool though that you can own as many as you want and even practise or duel with them on your own property.

As an American, specifically a Floridian, I'm always amazed at the weapon regulations in other countries. We can open carry swords/knives/etc, keep mace/pepper spray and stun guns without any type of license, and everything else can be carried under a conceal/carry license which only requires a short class and a small fee. And yet, way more people die from overdosing on prescribed medicine than weapons in my state.

Pretty much every democracy except the USA has a similar weapon ownership/usage regulation. In Germany, you don't need a license to own swords (only for guns and some types of modern military knifes). But you're not allowed to bring a sharp sword to a festival unless you need it for some kind of performance. And even then: if the police thinks that your weapon poses a threat (in the meaning of accidents) against other people there, they can force you to bring it home (or something similar).

@@burner27 Fact Check reveals... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Australia other fact check... yeah, Australia is not a Constitutional Representative Republic like the United States, and is in fact still ruled by the British Monarchy. Don't ask me how this makes any sense, they say it's largely ceremonial buuuuuut not really. Royal authority was last exercised in 1975 (by her appointed "ceremonial" representative) and the legally elected Prime Minister was dismissed and the leader of his political opposition was put in his place where he served for eight years. As an American I can honestly say the whole thing with revealing how actually involved with that Elizabeth II was... just that whole thing is pretty nuts to me, but hey, if that's how y'all want it... Just as a country founded by former British subjects the idea of still being one, however ceremonial or not, it would give me the heebeejeebees.

leftist and authoritarian logic: Criminals are hurting people with weapons?! Let's take away the weapons from the law abiding citizens, so that they can not defend themselves from weapon wielding criminals (who's weapons are most likely from the black market anyways, so banning them would not help at all)! -_- PS. Why should we trust any government with a monopoly on weapons and thus also with a monopoly on violence?! What can a disarmed people do against a tyrannical/genocidal/authoritarian government? What does any government fear the most and what keeps said governments from turning into tyrannical/genocidal/authoritarian dictatorships? An armed citizenship, who can not be coerced and thus can hold the accountable.

TechnocraticDreadnought Let’s be real, you don’t need a gun, you just want a gun. Any fantasy you invent about Bond villain criminals who always have access to the magic black market gun store is just a bullshit excuse to satisfy your own weakness. The ability to kill without effort doesn’t make you strong, and spreading its ease only makes criminals more deadly and the innocent less safe, and your willful ignorance of all those innocents who die as a consequence of your destructive desires is what marks you as the true evil that needs to be uprooted. So yes, let’s eliminate the guns that “empower” both you and criminals so we can be rid of both evils at once.
