@FlintKai

Agreed. Javelle's dunks were outstandingly creative and hard. Blake did a honey dip and jumped over a hood of a car. Garbage.
@Swove2204
@Swove2204 8 жыл бұрын
+Malachi Noronha It kind of gets overlooked due to Griffin's Kia situation, but despite a wonderfully creative first round, JaVale McGee was arguably more pedestrian in the finals than his counterpart. For better or worse, an off-the-backboard honey dip off one foot had never been attempted or completed in an NBA dunk contest. And sure, for the sake of the discussion, Griffin's next dunk was essentially a standard two-hand lob over the part of a hood of a car. However, McGee's two final round dunks were 1) a Larry Nance cuff dunk along the baseline (nice, but after extending a bit and missing his first attempt, the second was a little more pedestrian... while also being a replica of something that was first done 27 years ago) and 2) a one-hand bounce dunk. That's it. He literally finished with a layup line one-hand bounce dunk (video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aneceaabfLmiosk). If you still prefer McGee's final round to Griffin's, I respect that. I just don't think he did a ton in the finals to deserve it more than Blake at that point. If McGee had somehow made it to the finals then busted out his triple dunk for the first time at that point, I'd be more inclined to agree.
@FlintKai
@FlintKai 8 жыл бұрын
***** Well personally i dont think Griffin should have been in the Finals of the dunk contest. The honey dip was alright but that was his only actual good dunk coming into the finals. And im glad im not talking to an imbecile who is quick to judge someone because of their opinion. Lol thanks for understanding.
@Swove2204
@Swove2204 8 жыл бұрын
+Malachi Noronha Right on. I was going to mention the first round angle in my first post but held off for the sake of brevity. I think Griffin could have very easily been eclipsed by DeMar DeRozan in that first round (Griffin skirted past him 95 to 94). It's just, once Griffin made the finals, I don't think JaVale McGee did anything to take him down in those final two dunks. As for that controversial first round, I always kind of thought Griffin benefited from his first miss (that wild one-footed 360 scoop-down-to-waist attempt that brought the arena to its feet). If he'd made it, it would have been one of the greatest NBA contest dunks I'd ever seen. Unfortunately, he had to settle for a more pedestrian one-footed 360 (still a really superb dunk, in fact, just without the waist pump). I always kind of thought the judges were fooled into thinking he completed the same dunk he'd originally attempted. Then again, maybe they were just swooning off the hype.

I used to play against this guy in High School. We just had fun with it as a team. With him and McBride (who would have gone NBA too barring injury) they were unstoppable. Literally. Was always more fun to watch him, even when trying to guard him, than it was trying have a level of competition. Even at 17-18 he was ready to go pro. Just needed that finite tuning, and to gain some size. Ill never forget those days! For this very reason.

Here is the problem with dunk contests: Judges really only use 6-10. So you have only 5 scores to work with. The first dunk was a windmill…no way that’s a 9. Now you hardly have any room to go up. The way you fix it is by automatically scoring the first dunk between a 4-6, unless it’s a miss.

I think this is, easily, the hardest dunk ever finished of any dunk ever done in the NBA dunk contest. That shit is so difficult. Props to All-State QB AI for the assist.

Iggy got robbed. Nate won because he's 5'9 and his vertical makes his dunks more impressive, but still, Andre still should have won that.

I hate when they zoom in too much...they chose the worst camera angle and switches for that behind the backboard dunk...just stay zoomed out its much better that way

Respect to all the dunkers who were the first do certain dunks. Iggy the first to throw it behind the backboard and a bounce behind the back (JR Smith the first to do behind the bank in general)
