This strangely reminds of late SSB4 where Captain L's pocket Puff cleaned Larry's clock. Although Larry did get revenge on L's Puff later down the line, years of not fighting this character has come back to bite him. BassMage did play out of his mind this set though.

Bro I'm shocked larry didn't pull out the Falco I think he does super well against puff Up tilt is a super good answer puff's approach options mostly pound can edgeguard puff. Also he combos her super well cause puff is floaty and dies very early. Edit: I heard ESAM say brawler is a good choice to use cause of thrupper windows being very large on puff

probably an issue with being edge guarded if i had to guess. while dk's recovery is worse, the nature of the hitbox that surrounds it is more handy against puff than that of falco

There are things DK definitely does better at in the MU. A lot of his moves are super disjointed which can wall puff out. Also his weight makes the frame window for dair rest a lot stricter.

Larry needed a better grasp of DK’s tool box in the MU. He kept grabbing out of shield and got punished eveytime. Bass age was great so attentive

DK can just trade hits with puff, and A. his hits are always stronger and B. He's a lot heavier. Even if he trades 1 out of 3 exchanges, he'll likely win.

The point that the commentator was making was that rest in this game doesn't kill nearly as early as melee rest, in fact Melee and smash64 had the best iterations of rest, brawl and forward rest kind of sucks tbh, it doesn't have the same explosive kill power like it used and doing it on a super heavy is always risky especially because you're not always getting star KO'd in these new games

Jiggly is like Shulk. While, like Shulk, she doesn’t break the rules of the game, you will almost always be playing her game. It’s annoying as can be. Either you acknowledge her option coverage and play her game to probably win…or you continue to play normally and lose.

@@peterpotts7482 IMO, Leffen actually optimized how to beat jiggly puff in Melee from this. He plays her game until her early kill-percent and then just plays his game for the kill since he can do whatever he wants then. But the question is still really important for the character in ultimate…..Basically she has a window of time where she is “in control” until, at worst, she trades until kill percent. I think ultimately(no pun intended) it isn’t because she can’t throw out neutral options as much since this game isn’t as fast. But….the game has slowed down too….so is she actually really good?

all she has is horizontal air speed, the rest of her movement is all bottom level. literal slowest fall and fast fall speeds in the game, lowest gravity, third lowest run speed, below average traction, and being the second lightest in the game all give her rather poor agility as a whole.

I've heard from a few Puff players that the DK matchup is actually really bad for Puff. You end up trading a lot, but since DK pretty much hits you hard enough to win neutral every time. Yeah you can edgeguard him really easily, but it still really tough.

DK is very hard for puff to edgegaurd. like its possible, but all of puffs moves send up, and dk can just keep coming back with that hiorazontal recovery, and those arms are hard to avoid.

@@aoeu256 this just in, DK has a bottom 3 disadvantage state Doesn't change anything I said, Puff has to play really well because one mis-timed rest could result in your stock being obliterated sub 40. Given my comment was a year ago I'd day I may have been reaching by saying it's "actually really bad for Puff" but generally I still believe that it's advantage for DK, even at worst

Not enough people fair during recovery as DK. I main DK and it is so powerful and at times very unexpected. Works especially well on floaty chars like jigs if you space it correctly.

MU = match up Character vs character matches are described as losing, winning, or even MU (sometimes given numerical values of -2 through +2). That is to say a character has qualities/moveset that beats out the other character.

Nah I'm a Wolf main and the MU is at worst even for Wolf, lasers and rising shines help a lot in that MU to make sure that Puff isn't dominating center stage. Wolf does generally get bodied offstage though

Bassmage i know its not technically the most safe option to go for but sometimes you just GOTTA go for the raw rest man. Especially against dk its such a losing matchup you totally need that comeback factor to match dks kill power.

Really feel like Larry should have thrown out more super armor moves as DK. Bass mage was just constantly throwing out aerials on his shield, and on Larry himself for immense pressure. Throw out your side B, neutral B or up B. Take that trade 10/10. Once he has to respect the fact that you'll just trade with him with a super armor attack, he would have to quit hitting buttons. 🤷‍♀️
