I've had mine 4 months now and changed nearly every part related to starting, I've ridden it about 200m. It still doesn't want to go. Is there a guide to the TPS set up? After that I think it will be to try a remap. Maybe I can give that a final go before I burn it and get a Husky 701.....
@GromBeardo2 жыл бұрын
My man, thanks for watching! First off, I feel your pain, brother! So frustrating! I used the TPS setup directions from the XV Tuner cable manual. You should be able to get that off the AF1Racing.com forum or any of the "Files" sections on the XV FaceBook groups. My understanding is that the values have to be in a certain range for the fuel to even kick on. A lot of things have to be just right for these damn things to start. If you can't get the values to be within the range they specify. (I couldn't get mine low enough.) you can loosen the TPS sensor on the side of the front throttle body and rotate it to get a little extra travel. That got me within the range specified. All the XV Gurus say if it's hard to start there's some other issue going on too, like decompressors worn or valve lash setting off. I don't disagree with that. As, I think my front cylinder decompressor is worn since the compression is high on the front cylinder. Decompressors are just for starting, so to get past that I installed a modified GY6 starter along with a Lithium battery. The Rick's 4 brush conversion or the other starters guys sell may work as well too. The GY6 starter was cheap, so I tried that first. It's a total hack job, but it worked for me, so I'm calling it a win🤪

@@GromBeardo Thanks so much for the advice mate. I appreciate that. I'm not on facebook anymore but will check out the forum more closely. Yours starts really nicely now so I am hoping to get close to that! The 200m I did manage to ride is the only reason why I've kept going with it....

@@christo6142 that forum will be your best friend then. It'll still be an Aprilia though 🤣 I started mine today to go for a quick rip and fuel was pouring out of the air box🙈 It's always something with these damn things.

You should have changed all of the fluids before riding the bike especially if you suspect that the previous owner neglected to service it properly.

You're kind of riding it like a sports bike. Holding onto the gears way too long expecting some run on, need to short shift that bad boy. Either get quicker on the clutch or bang up without it (throttle off obviously). They're a torquey, fast revving offroad motorcycle in essence.

Don't spend too much time with that shift light on. It's just a theory of mine, but I think that's what kills these bikes. Extended time in the higher RPMs. I believe at a certain point oil starts getting trapped in the crankcase and doesn't make it to the sump to be pumped back into the oil tank. I did a write up in the FB group about oil changes I'll send you a link to it.
@GromBeardo2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how accurate the light is. Seems like it's reving a lot lower than indicated. I could be way off though. Like at 65MPH what RPM should the bike be at, or like top gear at 8K RPM what speed? I just need something to compare to.
