most important lesson here for sparks...just strip off the cable and throw it on the ground - there should always be a generous layer of crap left behind when you've completed the job

Electricians do get some stick for not being the tidiest on site. We believe, having a tidy working area highlights professionalism and care for your work.

I don't think they should use SY cable in the AM2, it's not a cable mentioned in BS7671. On industrial sites I work on we generally use SWA to supply pumps. There is no information available from the manufacturers about how the braid performs under fault conditions. And for any AC installers out there it is NOT suitable for use outside as the sheath breaks down under sunlight.

SY outside, with top entry to rotary isolators. Gotta love'em lol

I’ve always wondered why sy cable is on the am2, as bs7671 doesn’t recognise this type of cable, as it doesn’t conform to a British standard?
@BbBb-hm5wk3 жыл бұрын
I've wondered that. No manufacturers publish details of the braid current carrying capacity under fault conditions, so it is impossible for the designer to confirm it is at least equivalent to British Standards.

How do you earth to back box as this is what they want on am2 not sure if the rings should be outside or inside the dol stater . Thanks
@XSTrainingLtd5 ай бұрын
Hi Kacey, thanks for the message. I have spoken to my colleagues and this can be done either externally and internally on site. However, the some AM2 centres prefer this to be done internally which I know is a bit fiddly. The only reason you would normally do it on the inside is to ensure the gland stays at the relative IP rating. Therefore, try do it internally. You wont fail if done as the video shows. Hope this helps.

Horrible use of a knife. pipe grips? not spanners? those will leave burs all over the glands. no talk of a banjo. KZbin sparks *sigh*
@XSTrainingLtd2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, thank you for your comment. Most centres don’t have spanners available. These videos support learners going into a certain environment. Spanners would be best practice but grips are commonly used, and if used correctly won’t leave burrs. Banjos are discussed when glanding.

It's tough to show the way we would use a knife on site and ensure the view on camera is sufficient . The video is not teaching someone how to use a knife, as I would like to think they are at this stage before booking an AM2 exam.
