I continue to be amazed by the chunk the two of you handle with xc bikes. I get the desire for lightweight but do you ever wish for a more slack fork? Are the competitors running similar rigs?
@PatrickJohannes-os5bv3 ай бұрын
Agreed, I was wondering why not opt for the Delano Peak since some sections of the trail look pretty gnarly. DP may be a bit heavier but I'd think time could be made up by faster descents.
@sydandmacky3 ай бұрын
Yes, pretty much everyone in the pro field is on an xc bike! There was nothing on this course where we felt like we needed more suspension or slacker geo (the signal peak is pretty progressive for an XC bike and rides great through rough stuff). If we were going to take a weight penalty it would be with tires, but even that isn't worth it with this much climbing. For the record, I love my Delano peak and it would be fun on these trails, but it's a full 6lbs heavier than my signal, and it would be pretty much impossible to offset that on these descents.

I recommend some charcoal for your nausea. It really works. Yes, that same blackened stuff that you get when you burn wood will help you stop feeling nauseous. Totally serious. They sell charcoal tablets, or you can buy charcoal powder and capsulize it yourself. You don't need a lot. One or two little pill-size capsules and some water. You'll be feeling better in no time.

It's always blown my mind that you both ride Maxxis Aspen tires for these chunky-trailed stage races. They seem so fragile to me and avoid buying them anymore bc I flat them anytime I race on them regardless of trail type. I'm sure the rolling resistance is low compared to an Ikon/Recon or Ardent variety and you both are much technically smoother than I. What else am I missing... What's your take, S n' M?

We both ended up sick after the race so I do think we had a bug, but I'm guessing the attitude accentuated the nausea. A lot of people were sick so I think something was being passed around the race.

Looks like Mackey passed Chadd (bearded dude heading opposite direction).
@alexjohnson64623 ай бұрын
Cannot believe only one other person noticed this. Wasn't sure myself. I had to go look up the date of both races and sure enough they coincided. I did the TNGA last year in Georgia when he did it. That race was the toughest thing I ever did in my life and I have been biking my whole life. I think I must have did 20,000 feet of climbing before sunset on that first day. Cannot believe Chadd did that race barely a year (if even that) after he first started riding. He is a legit dedicated guy. The Colorado Trail Race is one of the few races in the country tougher than the TNGA, (elevation gain per mile wise).

Hike a bike. Always walk fast & gain or pass people when on foot. A 30m gain at 3km/hr walking, turns into 250m when on the bike at 25km/hr & riding. You are no longer competing against them, you are often out of sight. I'm not going to convert those figures for the minority of people who don't use the metric system, work it out.
