I missed the part where you switched from talking about Crying in H Mart to talking about The Book that Wouldn’t Burn (b/c I was cooking in the kitchen). You were talking about plots and world building and your confusion, and I thought omg Crying in H Mart is so much different than I imagined.

21:29 My view of reading books is to generally just go with the flow. No I don’t know what the Mechanism is or what the point of the Assistants are etc but I also know that Mark Lawrence/authors of other books have chosen to tell their stories the way they have and to just trust that things will all make sense at some point. Confusion may be intentional unless it’s just bad writing 😂 I have anxiety over other things, thankfully books isn’t one, maybe due to my views, maybe not. I do feel for your anxieties, though and hope you can overcome them 😊

The way you described TBTWB actually made me want to read it more because I LOVE the whole figuring things out as we go along type of worldbuilding 😂 The beauty of reading! Kings of the Wyld was in my 2023 best books-so funny! I’ve yet to read the sequel tho 😅 Enjoyed the video and all the pet content!! ❤❤❤

"The Book That Wouldn't End" was the exact same joke I made while reading it back in January. Every time I thought it was starting to pick up or that I was finally invested in something that happens, the book just went straight back to losing my interest again. It was a very weird experience, something about the writing that I couldn't connect to but it was also my first Mark Lawrence book so despite the fact that I really didn't like TBTWB, I'm still open to trying a different series from him eventually - hopeful the vibes work better for me the next go around.

i´m not on a reading slump, im on a 2 book roll. (it would be three but the book was part of a book box) so lets get moving and groven. Wait until you get to Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, your going to hate that if your having a hard time with that book. (Just saying not trying to be rude, eventhough it sounds rude) but i was so exited for it, and just it let me down so hard! i had to listen to the book. The problem with me is i could see EVERYTHING when someone reads to me, or if im reading, and Heaven and Earth when i was reading, and hearing it, it was troubling to me, and just not for me. But you might like it. I always wanted to read crying in h mart, but i dont want to cry while reading, because i read out sometimes. Maybe that will be a home book.

I'm way more disappointed than I should be that you didn't like TBTWB. 😅 I have yet to pick it up but I am looking forward to reading it. You're my most reliable BookTuber for recommendations because our tastes usually coincide with each other. But every once in a while they are different - for example, I love Emily Wilde, but I totally understand why someone may not like it. Anyway, hope your slump goes away soon! PS: I received Blood Over Bright Haven today, and it says it is no longer available in paperback on Canadian Amazon. I wonder if I have one of the last independently published copies because the hardback has a publication date in October? I don't know...but I'm really glad I have it now regardless!

I'm so relieved someone else didn't get on great with The Book that Wouldn't Burn - I honestly thought it was just me. I hit a huge slump after reading this book and desperately wanted to DNF it. I liked elements of it but it was way too long for my liking.

I wasn't surprised that you struggled with visualising with Mark Lawrence's writing because he has aphantasia which means that he is incapable of visualising. His writing is beautiful, sometines very poetic, but his description can get so confusing if you try to visualise it.
