One quick note in terms of the programming of the songs, Syed - keep in mind that these came out when they were listened to on vinyl lp's or cassettes, so instead of flowing from Crystal straight into Say You Love Me, Say You Love Me kicked off side Two. Enjoying the reactions as always.

The band was newly formed but Bass, Drums and Keys had already played together for years ... Buckingham Guitar and Nicks voice simply fit in beautifully with a well established rhythm section. Really enjoying the album review ... takes me way way back :-)

""Little hits of juicy bliss..." I love that. Well said. These reactions are great. Say You Love me featured the first of many classic Fleetwood Mac choruses where those three unique voices come together to form incredible harmonies. You can hear that again in Go Your Own Way off Rumours. Those three voices, all so different, work together so well. And your comment on how well the piano and guitar worked together... Christine and Lindsey connected musically so quickly and formed an incredible musical partnership for decades.

Say You Love Me - especially live versions from the 80's - shows how good the chemistry was within the group and how each member could bring their own advantages. If you pay attention to the guitar and bass in a video, they act in the background, breaking out into a short solo; the guitar solo has another formative curve. The 1997 dance version is a one-off purely acoustic Banjo version. Landslide live is primarily an acoustic longer version featuring only Nicks-Buckingham, ending with very familiar eye contacts or more. Nick's voice is great, so fragile on the one hand and so powerful on the other. In the official 1980 live version, Christine performs a brief key solo. Let's the week TURNING or the WORLD?

Great album. Came out when I was 10 years old. This is when I got hooked on Fleetwood Mac. They charted with single after single in 1975 and 1976. Then came Rumours. I was amazed that 3 different lead singers each wrote their own songs and also took the band in a different direction. Fascinating. Super talented people, super tight band. Love listening with you. Join the club, we all love that band and their music.

Actually far from Fleetwood Mac's first album, although it is self-titled like a first album. Formed in 1967, this was actually their ELEVENTH album, although they reinvented themselves several times and this album did represent yet another complete reinvention.

The comparison you made between Over My Head and Say You Love Me is even more interesting as they were both written by Christine McVie. She was an incredible songwriter. Nicks and Buckingham usually get the most ink written about them in the band, but McVie wrote more of the band's hits than any of them.

This is a great contrast. Christine is warmth personified, always thinking about love and how GOOD lovers react to one another and Stevie is always cold, thinking about herself and how her lovers and the world will affect HER. I understand you see Stevie as "vulnerable", but thank God, I see her and women like her as "out of my price range" emotional and monetarily. Stevie plays for souls, and I'd rather share lives. Great singer and yeah, I totally see why everyone only dwells on her, but I LOVED Christine, as I've said many times ... and she was ALWAYS my favorite (female) of the group, Lindsey, of course, being my favorite male. I loved John McVie's bass playing but really loved Mick Fleetwood's drumming. He played differently than just about every drummer I've ever heard, and he made a great impact on the band ... just as much as any of them.

1:29 RE: how keys and guitar could be so tight for a band on their first album. While this was the first album Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie played on together, nobody in this band was green, everybody was a professional at this point. Mick and John had 9 previous Fleetwood Mac albums together (plus some tracks together with John Mayall), Christine played on 8 of those previous Fleetwood Mac albums (plus she had a solo album), and Buckingham Nicks had a major label album under their belt.

Syed, if you like this Fleetwood album , you really should check out some of their earlier albums. Especially the track "Sands of Time" from the 1972 album "Future Games" . Its just haunting and beautifull. Every song is a masterpiece. Christine Mcvie was the main singer and wrote many of the songs during this era. She was part of the line up on this and at least 3 other earlier albums, before Nicks and Buckingham joined in about 74. These earlier albums are all so good and so overshadowed by the Nicks , Buckingham years. Much more bluesy and guitar based, but all incredible albums. Give it a shot! You wont be sorry. 1. KILN HOUSE 2. FUTURE GAMES 3. BARE TREES 4. MYSTERY TO ME Fleetwood Mac had 3 very different eras , starting in 1967. 1.Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac. Very bluesy and raw, and beautifull 2. The Chistine Mcvie years 3. Nicks and Buckingham years They are probably the most interesting, diverse, and talented Groups of all time Thanks

Check out Lindsey Buckingham's solo acoustic performance of Big Love and Go Insane. There's a 2008 performance from Texas on YT with 3.5M views, with a little poem in the middle of the two songs. Forty years later and the poor dude is still pining for the one that got away.

One of my most beloved albums of all time is "Then play on" from 1969, where the band and Peter Green where moving on from straight Blues Rock to a combination of that with Psychedelia and complexer musical structures. It is for me my FM favorite and would be a good introduction to what FM was, originally.

You should look into the history of Sound City studio. Mick Fleetwood met Stevie Nicks there, Neil Young came Canada there, Kurt Coban recorded there, etc. You have commented on how well put together some of their songs are. I think the studio has a great history of great music.

And I don’t know if you can tell but the guy on guitar plays with his fingers this is the reason the guitar playing sounds different he doesn’t have a picky sound to his guitar playing because he does use his fingers instead so it’s a smoother sound

There's actually another album titled "Fleetwood Mac" from 1968 but you wouldn't even recognize it, as it's mostly Blues songs, featuring a completely different band make-up (apart from Mick and John). This was basically John and Mick's way of "rebooting" the band, and they decided to re-use their band name as the album title a second time. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie had been playing together since at least '67 - so almost a decade at this point. Their "tightness" is not an accident, it's from years of playing together, even if Stevie and Christie are new to the band.

When I was a much younger woman, I found myself on a bus from London. After 24 hours of listening to Greek music, we were all planning a run for it. Then a young polish women handed the driver Fleetwood Mack and Bob Marley's Legend. Our bus of people who spoke almost no English, belted out every word.

I am totally confused. You say that you love me I think is from the album right before they're Smash Hit album rumors. And Landslide I know came later. But I'm pretty positive I heard that first song earlier. So I'm not sure why they are prepared together. But then again I never really got into tusk so maybe they snuck it back in there like in a remake or something? All I know is it doesn't make sense to me. But I'm going to check it out because I like your reactions.

I LOVE that you love FM and how tight they are…speaking of the keys snd acoustic guitar. But…..not to put too fine a point on it: These guys are professionals. Remember that those who made their living as studio musicians at that time would have to be just as tight…with different people …sometimes four times a day on different sessions. Respect!

A masterpiece, yes, but not necessarily a deep one. The lyrics are describing piles of cocain on a mirror, resembling snow covered mountains. The love she's breaking up with is the drug. It's hard not to hear an aging addict regretting a life spent climbing fluffy hills of synthetic snow while staring into her no-longer youthful reflection once you consider it. Actual snow covered hills really aren't particularly reflective.
