The “girl” as you put it, is actually a metaphor for “fame”. You gotta remember the Eagles are from Southern California, LA/Hollywood. Entertainer’s, whether they are actors, actresses, singers, etc…are treated as big celebrities when they’re on top…but when a new sensation hits it big, it’s embraced by “fame” and the old sensation is kicked to the curb…”they’ll never forget you till someone new comes along”…

The Eagles Greatest Hits is the #1 selling album of all time back and forth with Thriller, Hotel California is always in the top 10. I used to see Glenn Frey at Wilshire Car Wash and a mom and pop pizza place on Wilshire regularly. Really nice, we'd just make small talk about this and that, not music so much. I just talked to him about the Eagles the first time we talked waiting for our cars, I know their whole catalog and have seen them live. He was always by himself except once he was with his kids and he introduced me and I talked to his kids a little. This was back around 2007, 2008 in Santa Monica. Everyone in highschool had Hotel California and Rumours albums. Great music, one of my favorite bands, even all their deep cuts. Love their solo stuff too, especially Henley and Walsh. Walsh is someone you need to explore solo and with the James Gang, he's a guitar genius and composer.

As far as this later stuff goes, I bet you would really love their song, Life in the Fast Lane. That Joe Walsh riff at the beginning is killer and the words are fantastic and it's just a solid rocking song. It's funny because I was a solid Eagles fan as a kid and I bought their albums as they came out, including their iconic greatest hits album, with the cow skull against a blue background on it, and then for a birthday present I got the corresponding songbook with the sheet music in it for the songs. But I remember I bought this album when it came out and I liked it, but I remember thinking that this song was kind of boring, lol, and it was on the radio all the time, but then again I was in junior high and into a lot of harder rock and the more up-tempo Eagles songs. But listening to it now decades later, and as a musician and a composer and all that, I really do appreciate it. It's a great song. These reactions can be really interesting in that way!

The 4 times I saw the Eagles Live their harmonies were ALWAYS spot on. You could have been listening to the studio version. Not many bands are able to pull that off live. In my life, the Eagles and The Moody Blues pulled that trait off best!

Always had a particular appreciation for the portions of the song in which Don Henley duets with Glenn Frey - Henley was/is just excellent at harmonizing with almost anyone, but it's amazing how strong their harmonizing could be within the Eagles themselves. I always related to this song so much. I'm from a small town and left the town to do bigger things in the big city. When I came back, it wasn't the same, my childhood friends looked at me differently, vibes weren't the same, and I felt like the "new kid in town" even though I was born and raised in that very town. I know my interpretation is likely not the same as the writer intended, but thats the beauty of music; its all open to interpretation!
