I really enjoy this series and look forward to the rest of them. A couple of comments on Shinobis. I have tried multiple to make the Shinobi Officer and I would have to say that in most cases it hasn't worked out too well for me. I get the concept and it looks good on paper, but when it comes to the game it doesn't pan out very well for me. I know that I play too aggressive at times, but I would like to finish missions with a couple extra turns to spare and a few wounds than hitting the extraction with constant reinforcements coming in. Often times its the Shinobi that is going in to take out that "big threat" and if he is the officer, then there is no way to command the Shinobi out of there except for a bond mate or a Skirmisher. I will use them as low rank officers to do 2 man stealth missions so that I can command the other soldier after they hack or assassinate a target, but that is about it for me. I also think that the Gun build is more viable with the latest Dev builds of LWotC as the XCOM perks often play well with using guns versus the melee attacks. If the Shinobi has average or better starting aim and has some good XCOM perks for guns, then I will go with Lone Wolf as I typically have my Shinobis away from my other soldiers. Even if it isn't the full distance, they still get a partial benefit of the perk. For those Shinobi with low aim, I still go with the Blademaster perk as they probably will never be shooting a gun.

My personal build, given the updated tree that swaps the places of Hit & Run with Hunter's Instincts, is as follows; SQ: Fleche / Phantom / Slash LCPL: Blademaster CPL: Combatives / Quickdraw SGT: Covert SSGT: Bladestorm / Lightning Hands TSGT: Hit & Run GSGT: Hunter's Instincts / Faceoff MSGT: Rapid Fire As you may have noticed, I like to combine Hit & Run and Rapid Fire with the Pistol perks. They work really well to just chain together lots and lots of shots. Ideally against an exposed target you would use all three of Hit & Run, Lightning Hands and Quickdraw in whatever order, followed up by Rapid Fire. If you have to move to flank, you only lose Quickdraw. That's an insane amount of shots and I love to combine it with Dragon Rounds. Speaking of Dragon Rounds, if you can hit a large number of biological targets with Faceoff, you can disable a fantastically large number of enemies. The blade perks work well early on to provide a reliable source of high damage and combine to make you almost immune to melee enemies like Berserkers, Chrysallids etc which is so useful throughout the game. If you stand next to a melee enemy with your Shinobi, they are effectively controlled without needing to expend anything other than the actions you took to get them there.

The shinobi 🥷 tree has changed since this video. They moved hit & run to the tech sgt rank and it competes with reaper. It was a straight switch with hunters instinct which is now a gunnery sgt option. You wouldn’t get the hit & run synergy without giving up reaper. What would be your preferred choices, given this change?
