The question is, how toasty does it get in operation, that could also be a good indication of whether we will see a teardown of it in near future.

Not too hot. The size of the bulb allows for better heat sinking then the standard A19 types.

How do you think this would work outside in the winter at -20C?

The box description lists -20 to +45 Deg C operating range, so it should be okay.
