@@lpg011 thats why I used "," quote, unquote. May connotation na nga e, ibig sabihin DAW. Parang di kayo familiar sa isang gangster named Asiong Salonga also known as "Hari ng Tundo". Fyi, I lived in Tondo for almost a year, I've been so cautious everytime I walk on the streets. Being careful not to become arrogant in the eyes of the bystanders and trigger them to give me a "gripo" (stab wound in the abdomen). You are right, crime happens everywhere, but most of the crime happens in the slums in Metro Manila, including Tondo.

I was born and raised in Metro Manila but I seriously haven't been to Tondo! LOL We've always been told by our elders that it's just a place not to go to - def the roughest, scariest, and least safe place in Manila! Although, during New Year's Eve, the entire metropolitan is just like a freakin' warzone!!! The place where I grew up in, our entire street was composed of Chinese residents (mostly business owners) so when New Year's Eve comes, our street probably had the brightest fireworks and the loudes firecrackers in the area. The Fil-Chinese go all out and don't hold back - it's nonstop loud, banging sounds for a good 1-2 hours!

She now has a better picture of the PH.. the affluent BGC.. and depressed area of Tondo.. in either places you will be taken care of.. most foreigners don't realized that Filipino hospitality extend beyond courtesy and respect.. Filipinos are willing to die protecting their guests.. that is a known fact .. Hope you experienced Chinese New Year come Jan 22.. in Binondo Manila.. the world's oldest Chinatown..

Im so surprised but glad that you went here in tondo .I was born and raise here. Now iam 76 years old, i cannot live in other place, i so love living in tondo, I love tondo and all legite tondoñians. Like our handsome, and , great mayor Isko Moreno or "yorme" ,Many are afraid to come here, coz many bad news had been spread on social medea and in movies. Oh my, Sylvia. You look so traumatized at the beginning i felt bad. It's so normal here and even thought before that's how other countries celebrated as well (I'm sure a lot still thinks this way). So we kind of take it for granted that foreigners would have a culture-shock about this or be this scared. Glad you adjust a bit later kn and soldiered on. Holidays like New Years is probably the worst time to be traveling to other cities commuting bec of the traffic and less (comfortable) means of getting there, what with the fireworks going on everywhere. Honestly, it has mellowed out through the years. I remember maybe early 2000's, the street fireworks lasts til early morning at 4-5am. And I get allergy attacks coz of the thick smoke. But now, it stops pretty early. Maybe at 1-2am, at least in my area.

When I was a kid in new years there, you "steal" fire crackers by quickly stepping on the ones that have been lit to put out the fuse. Those explosion sounds from tondo today is nothing compared to like year 2005 and below. Back then you could hear it from morning till night. Sometimes it feels like your house would get destroyed too haha. It seemed like people dont run out of money to buy fireworks. Nowadays its a lot less. Unlike before, if you go out at dec 31 you might lose your foot. 🤣🤣 Anyways, stay safe Sylvia!

the roads and streets is a mess on christmas eve and especially new year. but it was way messier in the previous years when the regulations on fireworks/firecrackers was overlooked xD by the way sylvia, i heard from my friends that BGC and nearby areas are having transportation crisis right now so i think you should reconsider commuting to these places. it would be helpful if you have a personal driver or a friend XD

My neighbors used to have fireworks for like an hour or two non stop. 😂 The streets are literally lit with it. Some were fountain fireworks, some were those that sound like a screaming cow, some were several lines of those triangles that sounds like machine gun, etc. 😂😂 After one family is done, the next family does the same. The whole street smell like gunpowder until morning. They also try to one up each other. 😂😂
