Russell Allen is one of the best singers out there. As mentioned above this is their best album, a concept album. A great listen all the way through... I definitely think “The Odyssey” should be your next Symphony X reaction.

Michael Romeo is the guitarist of the band btw. Also loved this reaction from my favorite Symphony X album. I call this album a perfect album because it has a good quality to it, and there's never a boring moment in this album.

You should definitely check out this entire album, it’s one if the best prog albums of all time! As for individual songs from SX, you can’t go wrong with Candlelight Fantasia (every member of the band is at their top during it, a masterpiece

Russel Allen’s voice still sounds great, there are a lot of different sides to his voice that aren’t shown in this song. The Odyssey is in my opinion their best song and it’s more like dream theater with all the twists and turns it takes.

Just discovered you, good review and I like that you react to a variety of songs. If you don't know White Zombie , I have to recommend Electric Head Pt.1 (The Ecstasy). They were famous for More Human than Human (also a classic jam) but The Ecstasy is a real trip. Also, as a reaction channel you should do Jinjer - Pisces , not only will it blow your mind it'll probably help your metrics (everyone reacts to it for a DAMN GOOD reason).

I am sorry, it doesn't sound anything like Dream Theater. If anything, it is Yngwie Malmsteen influenced. Dream Theater don't use any of those chord changes.

This band mix some Power Metal into their Neoclassical prog metal style, thats why they might sound more straight forward in structure sometimes. This song is part of a concept album about greek mythology so the songs in this case are shorter but flow really well between interludes. This one you listened ends in acoustic guitar and bleeds perfectly straight to a beautiful orquestated segue before the 12 minute epic grand finale. If you want more crazy and unpredictable progressive music, you should listen to their epics: "Rediscovery", "Through the looking glass" or just go straight to their 24 min magnum opus "The Odyssey".

Based on youyr reaction to some riffs, I'd advised you listening, for example Children of a faceless god. Its more newer staff, and its more progressive, than prog/power, as they started. Russell Allen by the way is the best rock vocaist for me. He has very nice powerful voice, can sing harsh, but at the same time he can sing very warm and gentle... amazing vocalist.. and has nothing to do with Dominici to be honest. MUCH BETTER and versatile. P.S. if you need more versatile. then Awakekings is on of my favorite their songs, and of course The Oddsey is the best one.

symphony x is by far my favorite band. you should check out some Star One which Russell Allen is one of the singers. the sound they have is "space metal". might not be progressive enough for your tastes but i like them a lot. not to mention floor jansen is one of the singers in the Star One project as well. One of my favorite songs by them is Master of Darkness which is based on star wars. another good one is Digital Rain which is based off the matrix.

I like this album but not that much how the sound is rendered. It sounds clear and high treble. There is something with the mix too, like Romeo is very upfront and Russel is a llitle bit lost in the mix. Also as you pointed, the bass is barely present. I think that would have been fire for this album if bass would have been higher in the mix in the like of Spirale Architect, Obscura, Beyond Creation, etc. By the way, Spiral Architect has only one album in 2000 but if you like prog that go in different directions, you should check it out (one of my favorite album!).

Spiral Architect, got it. And yes I think the style at the time was that more treble sound. The same is true with DT's WDADU first album... Similar recording. Which they would redo that one with today's sound engineering... Cheers!

My favourite band for the last 15 years, finally got see them live their first time is Australia in 2015 ....i cried. I also saw DT back in 2004 and it was the worst live performance ive ever witnessed i lost all respect for the band that day as did everybody i went with, there was only around 300 people there as i live in a small city and they gave a piss poor performance...it was digraceful.

That's great to hear you got to see X live finally. Sorry to hear about your DT experience, I have seen them 15 times and can't see how they would ever give a piss poor performance...It would literally have to be the only time they have put on a bad show other than things out of their control like sound or lights or something. @@captainmorgan1978 Sea of Lies was my favourite track they played as their older stuff is closer to my heart and this was the only older track they played. On DT i were shocked as id seen many videos of them playing live and was expecting an amazing show and experience, its probably because they sold bugger all tickets and one of the smallest crowds they ever played to so their care factor was zero, which was bullshit.
